I can be out in March or November and stand in the river a long time without getting cold using that setup.

I have a pair of Streamside Guardian waders and I have been very happy with the product and the company. I used my first pair for almost two years. I patched one hole in the foot with the included patch kit - I had bought very cheap wading boots at Canadian Tire and they wore a hole in the sock foot. That's not really on Streamside, and they were otherwise great. At just about two years old, they did spring a leak near the seam between the sock foot and the leg. I called Streamside and they said they have a two year warranty and they replaced them with a newer style (that had a different seam btw) with no hassle. Went to their place in Markham and did a straight exchange, easy-peasy. The replacement pair is over a year old now and going strong, and I've put a fair number of miles on them. I think they were around 180 at Gagnon's. I will be buying these again when my current pair needs replacing.

My main kayak fishing buddy is going on 3 weeks now in the ICU at Scarborough Centenary Hospital. He was unfortunately against the vaccine, and has since told me via one of our few text exchanges that he wishes he had gotten it. If they take him off oxygen his blood oxygen drops, so there's likely some damage, and no way to know if it's permanent. I was already distancing more than most and I'm doubling that now. I am in the Logistics business (including moving air freight). Most air freight flies on commercial passenger planes. It's generally not economically viable for an airline to fly without one or the other.

Everyone in Canada obeys laws to one extent or another. Some people speed, some don't. Some people are obeying the stay at home order, some are not. I'm not sure how that puts you in any position to judge crappieperchhunter for making their own choice.

While you guys are right that there is no curfew, tickets that are issued are not for "breaking curfew", they are specifically for "disobeying an order" under the declaration of emergency. I am not saying you will get ticketed if you sleep in your hut. I am saying it's possible and it's up to you if you take the risk or not. They may may have given you more info than thought in that reply: "If you do engage in fishing for a permitted purpose, you are encouraged to do so close to home, and only with other members of your household and you are there for the purpose of fishing. You are required to remain at your place of residence otherwise." The Italics are mine - I can see where if you get the wrong officer and they wanted to ticket you, they could interpret your purpose as sleeping and not fishing if you have a cot and sleeping bag setup, or are actually sleeping. It's enough ambiguity that I personally won't be attempting an ice camp until and unless they lift the stay at home order. Good luck whatever you all decide.

I'm booked in with them for next week to take my Son out for a day. I was told on the phone that on arrival they will be requiring the names of everyone going in the hut, for contact tracing purposes. That is probably at least in part to alleviate some liability by showing they did their due diligence. They have staggered arrivals and departures, so everybody isn't there at the opening bell scrambling to be first (like it used to be!). I chose the latest of three windows (9-930am drive out, 5-530pm pickup) 'cause my Son is a teenager and doesn't like to get up early. I was also advised to check the home page of their website where they have all requirements listed. I've always found them to be a pretty professional operation, so I would expect the same from them where re-opening requirements are concerned. I guess I will find out next week!

Back on the thread topic (fishing and the stay at home order).....I have been staying off the ice so far due to a lack of clarity around ice fishing and also a few people around me starting testing positive so I kind of "hunkered down" for a few weeks. The general consensus I see online is that ice fishing is permitted, but travel is not, although there is plenty of dissent. This article seems to be saying you can travel to fish, you just have to travel back that day. I sold my Rapala Cruz M1 'cause it was too heavy, but a lot of that weight is in the bench you removed. @akaShag The CLAM Kenai is pretty light at 45 pounds, but its tight in there. I sat in one at Trombly's for a long time and almost bought it (sometimes I still wish I did!)

I spoke directly to an OPP Officer at a local detachment today. She tried to maintain the party line ("Travel is not recommended at this time") but I boxed her in and she conceded there is no specific law against travel in Ontario at this time. I recommend anyone who is unsure or prefers to do their own due diligence call their local detachment. It is a quick call and confirms what you want to know directly from the horses mouth.

I would avoid at all costs. High heat on galvanized finish gives off toxic zinc fumes.

Another vote for Milwaukee FUEL (technically Model 2804-20). I have mine on a clam plate 'cause I like the "auger feel" and in my personal opinion it's safer. It's light and drills faster than my old (sold) gas auger. The batteries have never given me trouble in the cold, and I've never come close to running one out of charge in a day. EDIT to add that I use it with an 8" Fin Bore which cuts amazing. I also use a 12" extension once the ice gets thick enough but for early ice it's not needed.

Honestly I'm pretty crushed. That's such a beautiful spot (I spend time camping there in summer) and based on the long term (snow) forecast I don't think I'll make it in there again this year with a truck. I need a sled!
