I wear mine whenever I'm moving from spot to spot, but if the anchor is down it comes off. Going to Nipissing in two weeks, new lake, lots of rocks (so I've been told) and cold water, so will have it on the whole time.

I have been to the Wolseley Bay Area, not sure if that's "upper", and to be honest we didn't have great fishing. Not knocking the area, it could be we're just not good fishermen! I am already booked in for Callander anyways so no going back now.

I sure hope so. But either way, 3 days on the water beats three days in the city every time!

Lew, that doctor was right. I did the same thing once on a Pike tooth. Wrapped it in a strip of t-shirt cloth and kept fishing. Big mistake. By morning my finger looked like a giant black sausage. I knew it was bad when I had to pull over more than once on the way to the hospital to throw up, and I knew it was REALLY BAD when the Triage nurse took me in immediately. Long story short, you could see the infection spreading up my arm, and they came in every ten minutes to draw a line on my arm and write the time. When it was approaching my shoulder they told me that if it goes much further they would have to take my arm (!?!?). In the end the IV antibiotics worked, but they told me if I had been at a fly in or hadn't sought medical attention, I likely would have died! Now I always make sure I keep a first aid kit in the boat, and always clean and dress any serious cut right away.

No worries, an honest mistake. I have family on Upper, so have fished it once or twice but never had much luck. I found Lower to be nicer scenery/water and it was also more productive, at least for me.

I don't think we're talking about the same lake - Pigeon is connected to Upper Buckhorn, not Lower...

I can't even imagine a 7 pound bass! That would definitely be a personal best for me - my current PB is a 5.5 pounder. Thanks porkpie. Do you ever catch any walleye? I didn't really expect to fishing in broad daylight with all the sea doo's and water skiers, but I'm curious as we only caught bass...

I'm booked at Tama Kwa lodge, I'm pretty sure it's Callander Bay. Thanks for the tips re: "the humps". Are there any fish in Callander Bay, or should I be heading for the main lake everyday? Also, have you had any luck with worm harnesses there?

I was impressed, especially considering it was our first time on the lake. It's encouraging to hear that there are bigger fish out there!

A friend and I went to Lower Buckhorn on Saturday and had a blast, so I figured a report was in order.... We arrived at 7am to pickup our rental boat at Sunrise Resort in the town of Buckhorn. The boat was a 14' aluminum with an 8-horse four stroke, and the price was very affordable. The owner was friendly and helpful, and I would definitely recommend renting there (and will be doing so again myself). We started the day casting into weeds along shore, resulting in some chunky largemouth. When that bite died down a little we moved out into the lake, anchoring off of rocks and islands for 10-15 minutes at a time before moving on. We caught a nice mix of smallmouth and largemouth doing this. All in all we caught about 40 (ish) bass, and a few decent sized perch. There were three lures that were really working for us; 1. Lindy Rig with a minnow was the hands down champion of the day. 2. Wacky rigged Senko's did well too. 3. A 1/4 oz Roadrunner jig tipped with a 3" Powerbait Ripple Shad caught a few too. Pics: It was a great day, and we will definitely be going back to Lower Buckhorn. The lake is really beautiful, and while we didn't catch any monsters we were busy and had fun. Dutch

Thanks for the advice. I'm pretty cautious, when I say we will "fish at night" I'm talking about mooring 100 yards off of the lodge dock. Maybe throw out some minnows on lighted bobbers and just chill out. If you mean what I think you mean by the "Ballet" I will keep that in mind if it gets too windy lol Let's compare notes afterwards

Thanks Bill. I always make sure to put a deposit and ask for a "balance due" invoice to be e-mailed to me, that way there's no shenanigans upon arrival! I ended up taking the lodge on Callander Bay, the price was just too good to refuse. Hopefully the fishing is good. I will post a report when we get back.

Joey, I love bass so I will be happy with them. A few walleye or pike would certainly be welcome though. We're going September 26th, any chance turnover will happen before then given the weather and waters temps this year?

Thanks Andy, good tips. I am cool with pike, smallies or walleye, but I know the guys I will be with want walleye above all. woodenboater, I've been to West Arm before (Lakair, twice), and loved it. I've actually stayed at Wolseley Lodge too, and while the scenery is beautiful, we didn't have the greatest fishing. The best offers I got from lodges just happened not to be there this time around.

Hey guys, me and a few friends are planning a trip to Nipissing in late September. I've been talking to a few lodges, and I've narrowed it down to one on Callander Bay and one in the Northwest in Lavigne. I don't really know much about either area. One thing I have heard is that the water at the east end can get rough and leave you sitting on shore, while the west is more sheltered. On the other hand, the rental boat at Callander has lights so I could fish the night. I'm having trouble deciding where to go. Any opinions or advise about these areas would be much appreciated!
