Yep, the guys at Bill's are awesome. Snapped the tip off an ice fishing rod bought there, totally my fault. Repaired free of charge. Maybe not a big deal but it meant something to me!

So sorry for your loss Matt. So tough to lose a member of the family.

Looks like loads of fun! Thanks for the share. Gotta love when the bass bite is hot!

Manitoubass2, can't say there's a thing you said there that I don't agree with. Disgraceful the way some folks are so wasteful and disrespectful of nature. I think you are definitely doing your part to live in harmony with the world around you. Respect!

She's a beauty! And a welcome addition to the family I'm sure! Enjoy

Think I'm gonna have to try the Thermacell. Looks to be a popular choice. Hope it's more effective than the clip-on fan that Off makes! Between that and a good slathering of deet, plus some light-coloured clothing and we should be prepared. Hopefully.... How about our 4 legged friends? Any tried and true methods for protecting them? Usually tuck a citronella band around their collars but not sure how effective that is...hate to think my boys might be miserable being ravaged by insects while I'm fishing comfortably. Not our first time out or anything, just looking for some new or different ideas for increasing everyone's comfort. Going to pitch a tent somewhere next week, not sure where yet.......

Nothing like a swarm of blood-thirsty little buggers to test your resolve during a fishing/camping trip. Not to mention black-flies that can carry you away. So I'm curious....what is your best solution? Deet? Those patches? The stupid little Off fan that clips on your belt that mosquitos laugh at? lol Anyone have a go-to that they swear by? I'll try anything! lol One trick I know is to use those drink holders from Timmies, fast food joints, wherever. Keep it smoldering close by and the smoke drives them away....somewhat

Trolling flies for colddddd front specks n' lakers

Way to go! Looks like a great haul...not much competition for the lake on a day like that eh? -
Corn on the cob?? Gotta give my vote to cooler corn! Fantastically easy to do. Just shuck your corn, some folks like them cut in half. I leave them whole myself. Put them in the cooler, boil water and pour enough to cover the corn. Close the lid and about 1/2 hour to an hour later perfectly cooked corn on the cob! Butter dish and some flavoured salts and you've got a corn roast!!

All the best Ironmaker. I understand your conflict. My father's in very poor health, recently had yet another fall and is now confined to the first floor of their home. Stairs leading into the house, stairs from living room to family room, doorways that won't allow his wheelchair. I swear the house is killing him. Not a chance in hell that he or my mother will consider giving up the house or going into long term care. "This is our home and we're going to die here!" I know they're going to die one day, I just wish they weren't so determined to speed the process along! Guess I got this stubborn streak somewhere! Anyways I hope your Mom and Dad can be comfortable and happy together for as much time as they have left.

Looks like a pretty awesome spring to me!!

Absolutely great guys! I've been involved with Community Living and I know how much these folks look forward to and cherish experiences like this. Hope next year there's an opportunity to get involved and help out!

It's shocking the drop in the level of care in our hospitals! They call it "managed care", meaning they 'manage' to squeeze out every possible dollar while providing the least care possible and get you out the door faster. Recently in Milton hospital, my father (72) was sent to hospital by ambulance after being sick all night and unable to stand up let alone walk. After a few hours in emergency on a stretcher my mother (76) managed to get in to the hospital to see him. As she shuffled up to the desk with her walker and asked about her husband the ward nurse snapped at her "Is that his walker?" "No" Mum says "this is my walker". "Well" snaps Nurse Ratchet, "you need to bring his walker so we can get him up and moving and send him home" Explain to me exactly how you expect this 76 year old woman who barely manages to get around is supposed to strap another walker to her back and haul it in to the hospital?? Not to mention that my father is still unable to stand, let alone get up and leave! After much explosiveness and a call to our family doctor who thankfully is also a big-shot in the hospital Dad got into a private room and his blood infection was diagnosed and treated. Given her way that nurse would have sent him home to die. As everyone seems to be saying the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I deal regularly with the hospital social workers and they've always seemed competent and compassionate to me but it's probably a toss-up one hospital to the next like everything else. Good luck, thoughts and prayers are with you

Awesome, what a great way to spend a day!!

Found another one! Golden Horseshoe Estates in Beamsville. No water but not far from Jordan...
-
Thanks sofabed! Surprised that one didn't come up on any of my searches. Looks great, think it's my number 1 pick so far...

I have found a few, not very many! Apparently Olympia Village has limited year-round sites too. That one is only about a 20 minute commute and I do that now to live in a crappy apartment building in the east end. So far River Bend seems to be the best bet. A 40 minute commute but it's on the water - huge selling point! I can definitely handle an extra commute if it means going home to wet a line in my backyard, fire up the grill and sit around a campfire at night!
-
Ya, god forbid someone should be able to live a simpler existence and pay a little bit less for the privilege! So far I'm looking at about 40 minutes to River Bend in Guelph or 50 minutes to Steve's on Lundy's Lane in Niagara Falls. Pretty sure I don't want to live on Lundy's Lane! lol...but then it is right across from the Sundowner...lol
