  1. depends if you are early or late? if its cold already, drop shot basin shoals and you will put a huge limit in the boat. I find the topwater/shoreline/shallow bite kinda vanishes once we get a couple of cold nights. The bass move out onto the humps (some even fairly shallow) and man do they feed. Ive had some absolutely stupid days in september.
  2. funny enough the only time i caught a crapola in the summer time on pigeon was on a topwater in the evening..i wouldnt necessarily call it a pattern lol
  3. individually yes, but TMLSE as a conglomerate is on another level.
  4. Theres a few twitter threads about it. An overall synopsis is that there are two issues. 1. The leafs need to be cap compliant on season opener, the clarkson deal puts them much closer to where they need to be. Theyd basically only need to move a million bucks now down to the minors or wherever in order to be cap compliant. 2. When you look at how Nylanders cap hit worked because he started 2 months into the season, his cap hit for the year was actually closer to 10.2 million. So if we are talking about Marner signing december first his cap hit for the year would be probably upwards of 13-14 million which obviously the leafs do not have available. Now with this extra LTIR relief they have the space to make the deal should it hold out until december 1. Brandon Pridham is the cap guru for the leafs, he actually helped write the existing CBA, hence he obvuously has an insiders knowledge of the loopholes available in the cap. Hence this deal happened. This is the exact type of advantage that the leafs being the richest team in the NHL need to continue to capitalize on. You may not be able to spend more on your roster, but you can definitely afford to bury 11+ million dollars in cash to work the cap in your favor. Furthermore you can afford to pay the best cap managers, management and coaching staff in the league. You can guarantee Pridham makes more money now than he ever did working for the NHL.
  5. https://fishb1.com/f/st-lawrence-river-report?fbclid=IwAR3svmbOVRCbs8x0F7U_69q2kfEnFm2p9XYSaCyfk6l1NsQ7et9ZldtXmCc So this happened a couple of weeks ago. Not a good look for tournament fishing at all, 96% mortality rate for smallmouth...ouch IMO its a combo of lack of fizzing by anglers and furthermore something specifically wrong with the live tanks at weigh in. They definitely need to fix this. Holy cow if I was a St Lawrence Bass angler I would be absolutely livid. Not only did they kill 183 bass, they killed 183 of the biggest bass in the area. Not good not good at all.
  6. i think the deal actually represents that marner isnt going to sign until the deadline like Nylander. When you look at the cap implications the deal allows them to be cap compliant if Marner isnt signed into the season.
  7. geeze the price on those pliers and cutters...someone grab those if you dont have them you are going to save yourself $100
  8. ive tournament fished it 3 times now, and leisure fished it multiple times but never as the driver, and never in my boat. Im scared this year because its my turn to drive.
  9. the only lake i have been on and witnessed 2 people within an hour of eachother absolutely smoke rocks at speed. One was a yacht that actually beached himself on a shoal and needed help getting pushed back off of it. Stick to the drive lines on your graph and if you want to venture off of them, throw in the trolling motor and take its slow. The water is very very clear due to the zebra muscles, but its also a navigation nightmare. If you dont have a graph...good luck
  10. theres absolutely 0 doubt that yammys outfish dingers and pretty much any other senko. But i save my $10 a pack senkos for when it matters and find myself throwing the $3 a pack ones when it doesnt.
  11. big money. The only way it stops is if people stop using them. When there is a market, there is a seller its as simple as that. Ive never used drugs myself (weed doesnt count people) Nor am I happy at all when people I know use them. With people cutting all types of stuff with Fentanyl youd have to love playing russian roulette taking cocaine or meth or even ecstacy at this point. Dont do drugs, go fishing. Would you consider Barrie a small town anymore? Cause holy cow the problem is going completely off of the rails there. I only pass through regularily and dont live there and I am noticing the problem growing exponentially. It almost is a given now that 50% of the times i pass through Barrie i see something completely messed up. Seems to be Meth thats causing the problem up there now.
  12. On Balsam 100% yum dinger on a whacky hook. Youll catch basically anything and everything on them. Cheap easy and effective.
  13. Iron, tungsten is one of the heaviest metals. Two reasons and I would argue three reasons to use it. 1. It’s heavier than lead so your weights of equal weight value are lower profile and smaller. Great for flipping etc they don’t get caught up as much. 2. The increased density gives you extra feel. Drag a tungsten drop shot weight across bottom vs lead and there is a noticeable difference in feel and sensitivity. and finally 3. It’s better for the environment and also better for me to not be handling lead all of the time. I’m sure it’s not great that I handle lead weights and then eat sandwiches or chips on the boat. Tungsten won’t kill you.
  14. iron i think naturally musky populations are lower simply due to the biomass required in order to sustain them. Its easy for a lake to provide enough food to support 1000 Blue gills, but it takes a heck of a lot more resources to support one 45+ inch musky. Hence they are indeed far rarer than many other fish. The main thing though is that fish of that size and strength are extremely vulnerable to over exertion and lactic acid buildup which causes them to die if mishandled. Meanwhile a snot rocket pike can be kept out of the water for a day and then thrown back in the lake and swim away like nothing happened. Heck ive seen walleye out of cold water still fighting while in the frying pan.
  15. I think about $40 USD (derek do you recall?) Which makes me laugh to think about because i recently bought tungsten flipping weights from Bass Pro, I paid $20 for two plain unpainted weights. Meanwhile my order from Derek I got 5 flipping weights in green pumpkin, a bunch of shakey heads and a bunch of nail weights.
  16. have you seen how jacked Bergy is? I think they already fired him but no one cares to actually give him the boot ?
  17. can vouch for Derek. I simply found him while trying to find some reasonably priced tungsten. He had the best prices from a reputable dealer (not ali baba) i can find, and having now gotten my order promptly, I paid no duty, the items are of as high quality as you can expect and he only charged me $10 shipping from the United States. A winner in my books and I am sure the first order of many. Thanks again Derek and best of luck!
  18. when i win the lottery, I honestly would switch from a hummimbird man right over to garmin, especially seeing that new trolling motor they brought out at icast.
  19. to answer the OP's question, what the heck is with the sudden push? my understanding is that a lot of it has to do with the vast market of Hindu practicing people that reside in Ontario. Their population far exceeds that of vegetarians. Its a significant market that has not been capitalized on. As mentioned in this thread, the beyond meat plant based products are not "healthy" they are full of sodium and other oily fats. The plant based burgers are actually made to be "juicy" and flavourful. They are full of salt and oil. Hence your market is not people that eat grass and lentils for a living. You are marketing to people that simply cant eat beef for religious or other reasons. Im honestly curious and will probably try out an A&W burger at some point just to try it. Ill probably then go right back and buy a teen burger lol.
  20. youll notice the fact that I said ive literally fished with members of muskies canada that didnt know what the hell they were doing either.
  21. man, seeing your dock damaged just has me thinking "i know that feel bro" holy crap, ive spent more time this year in the lake fixing docks, marine rail systems etc than any person should ever have to. Thats just the docks, never mind the boat house which is also now falling over ?
  22. Ive been fishing with some "muskies canada" guys and they bloody didnt even know how to properly handle the fish. I was lucky enough to learn from Pete Hoffman. Proper release takes the right tools (hook cutters, a huge net, jaw spreaders that dont puncture, and the ability to work in the water with the fish for hook removal and recovery before you take photos) You can almost guarantee that in this heat, weekend worm fisherman are killing musky all of the time. The classic technique for anyone that doesnt know what the heck they are doing is to catch a big fish on way too light of gear, fight it for half an hour, then net the thing in too small of a net, throw it in the boat. High five, sit and take a break, search for your pliers, unhook the fish, take another break, then pick the fish up, look for your phone/camera, then take a bunch of photos and then throw the fish into the water and hope that it survives. I see it all of the time while walleye fishing in the fall. Guys keeping walleye out of the water for 5 minutes while they complete their "release process" To expect everyone to keep a musky net in the boat is a bit much, but at a minimum everyone should learn how to gill plate grab fish so that they can effectively land huge fish in the absence of an appropriately sized net. Ive landed multiple large pike this way. luckily every time ive landed a musky ive had the right net in the boat.
  23. some guys absolutely love froggin, To be honest my hookup ratio when i started frogging was probably sub 10% Personally theres just other ways I would rather fish in the slop. Some guys seem to stick em all of the time while frogging, personally I have a heck of a time getting the fish to hook up. From my experience when you get a solid frog bite, You are going to see the frog get eaten and its not going to come back up even if you wait for 2 seconds. Then you gotta set the hook really really hard to make sure it crushes and gets the hooks into them. Top water in general is a big time percentages game, thats why I always keep a follow up bait rigged, If i get a blow up that misses, I stop, wait 2 seconds then give the bait one twitch, and wait again. If nothing happens I immediately reel in as fast as possible and throw them something to eat like a senko or a ned rigged craw. If you are fishing heavy weeds immediately chuck a whacky rig exactly where the blow up happened and to be honest better than 50% of the time the fish will hit that follow up bait.
  24. whacky rigs or a tube. Bass cant resist. To get mobile you can do it super cheap. I bought one of those tiny inflatable rafts from canadian tire for $30 it at least allowed you to get out offshore when the weather is ok. Trust me, getting away from the shoreline and being mobile will increase your odds.
