  1. i gotta make fun of you musky guys for a second...but why the hell do all of your baits still look like they were made in the 1970's Some of these "fancy" musky lure makers are a complete joke compared to whats coming out on the swimbait side in California and japan. $100+ musky bait vs
  2. then just consider the fact that you might use the boat in sub zero temperatures...i think in canada its always a good idea to check for water in your lower end anyways.
  3. Welcome to musky fishing. dont feel too bad, the fishing has been awful the past few days, the fish are most certainly waiting for some cold weather. Everything is sort of just sitting in summer limbo. Need the water to cool off for the fish to get in the mood
  4. is the garage heated? Do you intend to use your boat through the winter? The idea of "winterizing" is essentially just a maintenance schedule thing with truly the only thought processes being 1. Ensuring theres no water in the lower unit to avoid cracking it upon freezing and 2. Avoiding problems with ethanol gas by stabilizing and ensuring the tank is full to avoid condensation. Dont skip the maintenance on your boat...guys in florida still do all of these things because they are needed.
  5. balsam is loaded with pike now. Not a good musky lake anymore. Lots of talk about pike in pigeon/tri lakes. I fish a decent amount there and have yet to catch one. Sure as hell catch a bunch of muskies though fishing those lakes. I think I am actually 3 for 3 the last 3 times ive fished those lakes the boat has landed a ski...and im there fishing bass tournaments lol. Thats how loaded with ski's the tri lakes are.
  6. Just an fyi to expand your options for a used rod, an extra heavy bass flipping rod will get you by in a pinch. They are typically 8 feet long and have enough power for kawarthas musky. and yes, the Komodo does what it needs to do just fine. I can’t speak a ton regarding the longevity because I haven’t done a ton of musky fishing lately but I’ve been using it to throw A rigs in the fall on a MH st croix musky rod and it hasn’t caused me any issues yet.
  7. I cant believe the increase in prices for fishing gear. Ive got a okuma komodo and was going to recommend it as a cheap option...turns out its a $350 reel...never mind
  8. yall roe floaters spend as much time and effort as us bass guys do taking care of our boats, that rod looks like its worth about as much as my boat too 😝 Amazing craftstmanship
  9. This…
  10. my assumption is that these 60 horse bigfoot motors are for barging?
  11. tons and tons of musky up north. Did a trip out of pigeon lake resort, everyone got one. Trolled big bucktails. Id argue Pigeon is perhaps one of the best numbers lakes on the entire planet. Catch musky constantly bass fishing.
  12. to me it sounds like you have some kind of parasitic drain thats pulling down your battery when not in use causing you to subsequently have low voltage. I think the only way to check is start by ensuring you full charge the battery, consider disconnecting everything from the battery and only hooking up the humminbird units directly to the battery with heavy enough guage wire and attempting to start the motor. What guage of wire did you use to wire the units? Typical is 10 guage, and furthermore you want to be running marine tinned copper, any regular copper strand will corrode and cause resistance throughout the line. if its shutting off your units still after doing all of these things, either your battery is shot, which even with a new battery you can ruin it within a few uses if you discharge it too heavily and dont recharge it properly, or the battery is shot because your charger is overcharging and boiled off the water in it. one of the mechanics on here could also maybe provide some insight, but im not sure if a bad stator/starter could cause significant battery issues? Remember Shut offs are your friend, things like livescope, and control panels can be nasty at drawing down batteries. speaking of, that reminds me to go turn my livescope shut off off!
  13. Bump! $90 for 3 jugs of oil!
  14. Realistically, I don’t think I’ve met a legitimate angler to this day that has partook in that run because it’s literally a frigging gong show. Normal outdoorsman typically have no interest in standing shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of guys blatantly committing fishing violations while twisting their lures around their tackle.
  15. zero tolerance enforcement comes with a heafty price tag and a hard pull of limited resources from other bodies of water/land. far easier to close and enforce than attempt to monitor hundreds of anglers at any time of the day or night. Its a nice concept to have the enforcement resources available so that some people can lawfully go fishing, but they in no way are contributing enough to the economy during this specific event to justify the cost. Similar situation takes place in botwood peterview during the atlantic run, theyve closed the river entirely and 2 Co's keep an eye on the fish. No angling at all...easy to enforce. Lets not forget that there are also countless other angling opportunities within the province, and in this specific instance I do not believe that the regulation is in place because of concerns related to recruitment, it is far more related to the blatant fishery violations that occur year after year, and from what many of us have witnessed, unbelievably majority of partakers in this event on that stretch of water are there and up to no good in some form or another, either snagging, netting, pulling roe and ditching fish etc etc. a nightmare to say the least.

  18. to me, if its noticeable via satellite/helicopter then you're asking for problems
  19. the welding rod alone almost costs that much in 2024 😅
  20. if a tree falls in the woods...
  21. getting your prop fixed will cost you around $200ish to begin with. smaller prop on a 50, probably just worth replacing. Prop shops more commonly repair stainless props.
  22. by the way guys, Dave indicated that because they are only in their first couple of years selling yamaha, they are looking to move as many motors as possible to increase their volume. Give him a shout if you are considering yamaha for your next motor.
  23. an update on this, ended up dealing with Dave at Riversports Recreation in Holland Landing. I love a salesman that doesnt act like a salesman. I know they can have their place when you are shopping around and need information about options, but In my scenario I knew exactly what I needed, I simply needed to get the best price possible. Our conversation was, what do you need? whats your lowest price you were able to get from our competition? let me confirm that I can beat it and that we can get you the motor in a reasonable amount of time. Here is the delivery date, lets make sure we get the deposit in before the promo deadline to extend your warranty at no cost, deal complete. Cant ask for a better transaction.
  24. this seems really wild to me as well. I do get that a dealer is going to give preferential treatment to their own customers especially if they recently sold them an outboard and its having issues, it can look bad on the dealer, however to outright reject fixing your merc is strange. Considering my experiences dealing with the likes of Payne, and desmasdons in pointe au baril, they never seemed to care where I got my yamaha from, they were happy to work on it. Either way they get paid, either by you or by the manufacturer for the work that they do.
  25. interesting comment chessy. Ive luckily seemingly found a good deal in innisfil at riversports rec and marine. will let everyone know how things go
