  1. Curious Barry, with just one game warden, how was he able to make an arrest? I know he called in the RCMP, but how was he able to take down two of them himself? Were these two idiots that complacent? Or did he simply lead on that everything was fine until the point that the RCMP did show up? the idea of tracking an armed criminal through the woods is terrifying. hopefully these bozos get real jail time
  2. I’m still confused by “direct through” but I believe what it is attempting to resolve is my very predicament regarding using bait in the Great Lakes in a legal bmz purchased from an appropriate bmz but needing to travel through a bmz where it would not be legal to use the bait. what I alluded to in my post, that somehow launching in honey harbour instead of penetang would make you a criminal if you had live bait lol. knowing how regulations are written, the purpose of the direct through term, ensures that there is no ability to stop and camp in a different bmz but claim that you have no intent of illegally using your bait. Otherwise you could clean your hook off as the MNR runs up on you and claim that you’re only carrying live bait to keep it alive. Pretty sure that one’s going to be up to the CO’s discretion, either way I don’t intend to stop legally purchasing bait and using it in an appropriate bmz just because I have to drive into an “illegal” bmz before I can put the minnows in the minnow bucket at the dock.
  3. honestly, this crap is so confusing ive basically given up trying to understand if what I am doing is wrong or not. I know not to take bait from down in southern ontario and use it on back lakes up north...thats about my interpretation of the rules. Case and point, we recently did something unintentionally "psuedo illegal" but literally got stopped by the MNR and they didnt even care, or maybe the rules were unenforceable because of our physical location? Seems like unless you egregiously attempting to transport bait to use in an innapropriate zone, you may run into an issue...but my most recent trip and stop by the mnr...no problem at all. We bought bait in zone 16 and brought it up to our place to fish with it on Georgian Bay...totally legal, except for the fact that we were staying in zone 15. The funny part though, once we are in the boat back in georgian bay fishing, what we are doing is 100% legal, but taking the bait into zone 15 is illegal. At least I think so? Now, yes, if I were to go fish in zone 15 lakes with zone 16 bait...thats a pretty straight forward issue, and I get the idea of protecting zone 15's lakes from problems that exist in zone 16 lakes, but the idea of me launching my boat in in penetanguishene vs launching in honey harbour suddenly making me a law breaker is outright funny.
  4. Was…but finally wet a line today for the first time since the first week of November. That’s the longest stretch of no fishing I think I’ve served in almost a decade. ice is not good, but good enough to spud around in a floater and keep it safe.
  5. are we all going to agree to blame brian? I think hes been happier than a pig in manure fishing the rivers with warm hands. Although the man does love a perch and white fish...hes probably out in his toon though as we speak lol. Brian, january toonin has to be a new record no?
  6. very cool brian! you make good stuff, the guys ordering are lucky to have something so high quality easily available.
  7. I’m actually now a bit rattled that my boat is out of commission. 14 degrees and sunny, I should be out in the boat still if we aren’t going to have winter anymore.
  8. dont even bother looking at Motorguide. Terrova, full stop without question. This is coming from someone that doesnt even personally own a minkotta trolling motor. Im speaking from my experience using mine and other's
  9. 2015 was insane, I specifically remember Christmas even night in st Catherine’s it was 14 degrees and we had a thunderstorm.
  10. I miss early ice pike in pointe au baril. we used to fish on the worst ice ever right in front of our place…if you went in you ran inside and stripped down and jumped in the hot tub!
  11. They already came out. It’s a v2 that has single unit network ability and standard gt56 transducer. I believe they bumped the resolution of the screen up a a bit. so aka…nothing new. Worth 1000’s more for the same screen. Especially if you run 3+ screens and are going to have to hardwire to network them anyways.
  12. if you need support, its radio world without question. The catch is their pricing is rarely/never the best. Ill add, if you are seeking advice/information about set ups...ask here. A few of us are pretty well versed. I could easily have a job as an "electronics salesman" . I spend way too much time reading about stuff and doing wiring for people/setting up boats. Its my fall back if I ever lose my job 😆 P.S. the deal right now on the garmin 106sv with GT54 is the best value in the entire landscape right now. Top Top Top of the line screen, with livescope capability, down and side imaging plus networkability. You cant miss. Ive got three on my boat and cannot recommend them more highly for the price.
  13. I wonder if you are onto something here. The guy that runs his ulterra permanently deployed up in PAB is in the area every november during the pickerel run. Obviously we run into some very cold mornings and Im wondering if this was the demise of his motor.
  14. if youre going to sink money into a boat, put it into upgrading the inside and your electronics.
  15. still blows me away how little time you spend on simcoe bill!
  16. The spotlock is certainly better on the newer trolling motors. in fact I’d argue the spot lock on the new terrova is the best I have used. It’s better than my Garmin force’s I’ve used both models I had a Gen one iPilot on my old boat and have now used the Gen two on my dads boat and it’s certainly way better
  17. theres only a few minkotta's that are bulletproof and the terrova is one of them. Theres a guy in pointe au baril that fishes the walleye run there, and he drives with his ulterra permanently deployed, he jacks it up to drive around...because he got tired of getting to where he was fishing and it completely failing. The new terrova's have lift assist anyways, they arent like the terrova's of old that would blow out your back stowing the motor. They all come with a spring lift assist. My dad is 70 and has no issue stowing and deploying the motor.
  18. Dan, do you care to share your friend’s info? I’m not concerned about when I get back on the water, as long as it’s before June 15th 2024
  19. 2006 Yamaha vz200tlr
  20. Hey guys, I’m totally oblivious, but I’ve finally determined what’s wrong with my outboard…I’ve completely blown the lower end. So bad there is no oil left in gear casing. im assuming the damage internally to the housing would be so severe you couldn’t “rebuild” maybe I’m totally wrong, let me know if you’ve had any experience with this. I’ll add, it’s a 200hp motor so it’s high power, and when it finally blew I was doing 7mph not that I’m sure that makes that much difference. Let me know what you think.
  21. I find this offensive 🥲
  22. +1 for aikmans hes super honest, to a point that I brought a motor that was not repairable and he didn’t even charge me for the work.
  23. Man…why you gotta post these now lol
  24. Don’t get it twisted, 90% of my gear is used, it’s the only way to afford being in the game. My boat just blew its motor…I need to sell rods if anything now. I’ve got some mid range gear I’ve been trying to sell and it won’t move some of it even brand new discounted to 50% off. No one’s buying fishing tackle and boats at the moment.
  25. I mean of course my evidence is anecdotal, but I’ve never been in a boat with someone or personally broken a loomis rod. megabass…I think I’ve witnessed or been the unfortunate victim now 6? Times and trust me, I’ve got some absolutely poop kickers in my arsenal. A decade of abuse including trips into the bush and years before I owned a bass boat being thrown around an aluminum tinner. in fact I’ve beat the rods up so bad over the years that an insert from the eyelet on my gl2 finally popped and the top eyelet on my DSR now rotates and needs to be reglued. Those rods have rust on the hook keepers and chunks of cork missing they’ve been fished hard like a rod is supposed to be and truthfully we’re two of the first higher end rods I ever purchased, and they were bought out of necessity because I was finally realizing that anything that wasn’t at mid range in the 250+ range was failing me. They couldn’t hold up to the hours we were putting in. I personally don’t own any high end st croix for bass fishing, only a couple of mojo’s ice rods and ultra lights…honestly their high end stuff hasn’t impressed when I’ve had the opportunity to fish them in general hence the lack of my interest. honestly, I think I’ve narrowed my stuff down that if I’m buying it’s either loomis evergreen Expride…they and specifically the latter two because those two rods are without a single doubt in my mind the best value on the market right now and it’s not particularly close. The evergreens routinely go on sale for $150 and fish like an orochi and the exprides are $350? And fish like an $800+ conquest.
