Ethanol -free gas is no longer available...
AKRISONER replied to siwash's topic in General Discussion
They unfortunately have seemingly enrolled in the wolf energy pricing plan within the past few months. My buddy in ennismore used to make fun of me because wolf energy used to "gouge" the muskoka crowd and only discount their gas 10 cents or so, while curve was always upwards of 15 to 20+ cents cheaper. My most recent trip to curve, sure enough the gas was the same price as wolf energy on the 400. -
Something off with Terrova - batteries..
AKRISONER replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
as a rule of thumb, if youre running flooded wet cell batteries in a boat, you should be topping them up every year. My batteries were constantly losing water from being bumped around. I now run all AGM for this reason. Will most likely be going lithium next. -
Isn’t trying to figure out what the heck the previous owner of your boat did with their wiring fun? Lol This is why, since I’ve owned two boats now, each one has gotten close to essentially total rewire. gremlins appear and it’s typically because the wiring was not done right the first time.

Theres even some debate about that depending on the length of the run to your distribution box. Typical installation from guys like Sonar Pros now involves running a short heavy guage (4awg) run to a shut off, and then running clean 10awg runs to each graph in the boat. Even doing that I still have noticeable voltage drop between the bow and helm of my boat. Can never have enough juice running to those units. A single helix 7 should have no issues at all, they draw hardly any juice, its when you start going stupid with 3+ 10+ inch screens running panoptix and networking blah blah blah. I had to install a Automatic Charge Relay in my boat because my designated electronics battery a Group 31AGM wasnt getting my through some long days. Stupid stupid stupid lol ahhh the games we play.

Charging batteries while motor is plugged in
AKRISONER replied to RickOnt's topic in General Discussion
Hypothetically yes… but speaking from my own personal experience? I essentially plug my boat in every time I get back to the dock without bothering to ensure my motor is shut off…don’t think it’s ever caused an issue for me -

That connector should work just fine. I personally am a big fan of just bolting two terminal rings together, heat shrinking over them, and then heat shrinking and looming over the entire connection again. One things for certain, speaking from personal experience and now what you are describing, I would never recommend the minkotta plugs to anyone ever, they are purely asking for trouble. -
I can assure you that the noco genius charger has no issue with batteries in series. be it 24 or 36 volt, the charger has no concerns charging individual batteries as appropriate. I have heard that one should consider ensuring that their trolling motor is shut off when charging. Im not sure I have ever headed that advice. When i pull up to the dock the boat is plugged back in, every time.

We owned the cottage at the end of north shore road with the green boathouse for 15 years. My parents have since retired and we now have a place in Carling on the sound. i still miss pointe au baril a lot, its a really special place.

Wolf energy, and all of the stations in curve lake. -

You’re always going to have trace amounts because the pumps are pumping ethanol regular. But I’ve been assured repeatedly at the stations that the fuel is most certainly ethanol free. next time I gas up my boat and Jerry cans I’ll test the last can I fill. -

I think they actually have made some investment in a fuel blending facility . Original traders energy. so I believe they would source corn free high test fuel from a refinery for the purposes of blending and then would essentially leave the fuel uninhibited and give the middle finger to the libs and the corn lobby that demands that their corn go in the gas -

Natives are once again selling corn free premium gas. Was glad to see them bring it back as the driver of a high power 2 stroke -

Unless you’ve got a short somewhere that’s drawing power at a low amperage and killing the batteries constantly. trolling motors are as straight forward as they come by chance are you using a plug and receptacle? I’ve had horrible experiences with them, corrosion and vibration causing wire strand breakage. I’ll reiterate my comment about deep discharges on standard flooded batteries. If you have a history of long days/multiple days with no charging, it’s 100% possible that you’ve cooked a relatively new battery. Those lead acid batteries do not do well in that style of usage. My buddy this weekend cooked a 1 year old battery. He has a nack for only charging his batteries every so often. -

I don’t always agree with whatever test part source/canadian tire does. realistically a fully charged battery is going to show proper voltage, there’s no way for them to be able to test that the batteries are wearing unless they are completely cooked. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think there’s any way for them to be able to test that “my battery now only lasts 2 hours vs in the past when it would last 6” beyond reading the voltage and making sure it doesn’t immediately die within a couple of minutes while they test it under load. speaking from my own personal experience, a worn battery will show it age by not providing you with enough juice to get through the day. 2 hours on autopilot will draw enough juice to draw a pooched battery down enough that it is beyond 50% discharge. To me this 100% sounds like your batteries have grown tired. So I will ask 1. Are the batteries flooded lead acid or AGM? 2. How old approximately are they? 3. You indicate that they used to troll for days…flooded batteries when discharged beyond 50% capacity literally start to get damaged, they do not like deep discharge cycles and even worse they don’t like sitting at deep discharge and should be charged asap when no longer in use for the day. -
+1 for Aikman’s. However fair warning, the trolling motors of that vintage typically are not repairable of replacement controls are required. Repairing is nearly not cost effective. however yours just not working at all is better than the head no longer turning on direction or not being able to adjust speed as they are signs that’s the controls have failed.

I’ve fished at the south launch…it’s free

You need to make sure that it’s compatible with humminbird. There’s lowrance and Garmin chips that are exclusive to those units. navionics canada east is the product you’re looking for speaking from experience, do not bother with lakemaster its an awful and more importantly dangerous product.

How to size a bow-mount electric trolling motor
AKRISONER replied to siwash's topic in General Discussion
considering the investment in batteries we all make, im going to recommend a Noco genius for anyone putting an onboard charger in their boat. My assumption is that siwash is using just an amazon battery charger that has a lithium option...I have one for my ice fishing battery and it takes all night to charge, they arent made for charging big 100AH lithiums. They are designed for <24AH batteries. -
Fishing on private property connected to public water
AKRISONER replied to arc's topic in General Discussion
You can fish wherever you want in water unless you are trespassing on private property I.e. standing on someone’s land or fishing in a sanctuary posted in the regs. harrasing people legally fishing is actually breaking the law. -
just putting my 2 cents in...if its a legend made by smokercraft in the 2000's stay the hell away. My buddies rivets all blew out and the boat was basically sinking constantly. This was in a 2004? Not to mention it was literally the worst riding boat I have ever been in.

fuel sender unit - fuel guage, somethings wrong
AKRISONER replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
like so many problems I have with my boat...starting a new has been the solution. Its costly, but trying to fix the mess made in the past sometimes isnt worth the time or effort. -
Keeping oversize fish - does everyone in boat get fined
AKRISONER replied to big guy's topic in General Discussion
Judging by how the law is typically applied, if you knowingly let someone break the law, you will be found guilty of something. no different to me then if you help your buddy dress and store a deer that he’s illegally shot. You’re on the hook too. -
How to size a bow-mount electric trolling motor
AKRISONER replied to siwash's topic in General Discussion
Blew up my lower end in October while in snug harbour on Georgian bay during a wind storm…hour and a half on the trolling motor on top speed …the 2 group 31’s were fried but god was I happy to make it safety.
