call me crazy...but if I think of my buddies 2004 chevy, that thing burned like 30+L/100 when towing, we were pulling over to fill up for gas every few hours too and that was just skidoos! I 100% agree, a 2023 ford lightning is probably a terrible option for towing a giant camper, thats the job of a diesel for sure. No different than towing my 20 foot glass boat, it gets towed by a diesel too.

As always, most people will get along if they can be sensible. One of my best friends is a big QANON guy. Point being contrary to some, you just can’t take yourself too seriously and you will get along fine with anyone. Society is somewhat the victim of an artificial intelligence system that is running loose on the fact that conflict ensures the most engagement, more engagement means more ad $. Imo par for the course for FORD…I would expect even worse from my own truck maker RAM. funny is the current line of chev ice trucks are having major major injector issues, you’d think they would have that figured out by now lol.

You know what’s one component of cars ev or other that hasn’t changed? The disc brake. whoever invented the caliper rotar combo is a bloody wizard, the invention was so good thay not a single manufacturer has a disc brake that is any different than the other. The literal only difference is the composition of the rotars and pads. you want to teach your kid one of the most valuable life lessons? Teach them how to change out pads and rotars, it’s a universal knowledge, I learned how to do it back on my first car, and I’ve done them on every car I’ve owned since. EV’s may throw a stick in the spokes though, I wonder if the regen system gets in the way? I know they still have standard rotar caliper combo’s but my understanding is that they can actually become problematic on EV’s because of their lack of use! They actually seize up prematurely because driving around city driving the driver rarely uses the brakes!

We ain’t fixing climate change any time soon. it’s February 15th the literal cold dead heart of the middle of winter it’s 10 degrees outside and pouring rain. i saw a map from a US storm chaser yesterday, there is a heightened risk of tornados today through tornado alley reaching into the Niagara region…in February. just another “once in a lifetime warm weather event” that seemingly happens every year these days. It’s actually incredible how bad it’s getting right before our eyes. We used to get a thaw in the winter sometimes even two, a warm day here and there, I can never recall where 7 to 10 degrees above 0 for weeks on end was the dominant weather pattern in winter. a guy on my parents road said “I’ve lived here 40 years I’ve never seen this bay not freeze” when we asked about ice conditions the first year we moved to the new place, 3/4 of the bay froze, the rest is wide open water.

Speaking from my experience with bad ice this year this thaw might be doing us a favour eating away that really soft problematic layer. A cold snap Thursday and Friday might actually clean up our slush problem and make a bunch of that classic Ontario white ice.

Most lakes in the area have a heck of a lot of pike. Most likely small perch and sunnies. Might get lucky and catch a walleye or crappie.

You’re fighting a losing battle if you are still needing to convince folks that 1. Climate change is real And 2. That it’s human caused despite mounds of irrefutable science, even the oil companies have finally admitted that it’s the real deal. Alas we are in the age of “well I know better” one thing is certain, change is hard for people.

You said it yourself…you indeed do. I’m not throwing away my gas stuff but when it’s time to reinvest in outdoor power stuff, battery makes sense if the costs are comparable, especially since all tools can share the same batteries. the ice auger I used this weekend is better than gas in ever single way.

This fish may be one of only a handful of laketrout caught through a hole in the ice on the great lakes this year. You would think -31 degree temperatures would freeze water, instead we managed to lose ice this past weekend due to the intense wind, breaking up about 300 yards of ice, while also flooding the ice that I was fishing on with 6+inches of water. All i can say is, thank god for my (now defunct) Kast steelhead gloves that allowed for me to pull my tent's pegs out of the ice while they were under 4 inches of water in -22 with dry warm hands. The walk home through that knee deep snow and water was absolute hell, the slush instantly freezing to the bottom of my sled making a 300 meter walk back to the truck taking over half an hour. I actually started laughing maniacly at one point while trying to pack up my already busted up tent, the broken pole within managed to twist itself inside of another set of poles making it effectively impossible to fold away entirely without entirely re-deploying the tent, which was now impossible due to the 60kmh winds and water on the ice. I gave up, folded it best as i could into a pile on the sled and strapped it down. I found ice that ranged in depth from 8 inches to 2 50 meters apart from one spot to the next...at this rate we will be boating in no time.

ugh, were dealing with a deep layer of snow slush on 2-3 inches of clear...total nightmare on my home waters making it so that I cant get to where I want to fish. I might try man up and haul my butt through 4 kilometers round trip of the garbage this weekend...but man life would be easier if i could just pop on my sled and get to my spot.
