  1. Thanks for that post Lew. I am a Picton native, as are all of my relatives. I remember growing up my uncle's best friend was a Cole. I wonder if there is any relation to this?
  2. I washed mine in a triple loader washer with Nikwax Tech wash and cold water. It's a non detergent soap to clean manmade fabrics. I then did another cycle with their TX Direct wash in to help water proof it. Put it in the dryer for about 5 minutes on low heat then hang dry. After a day flip it inside out to get the other side dry. This is how I clean all my climbing gear that I have had for 10 years, and still looks new.
  3. Great show!!! My wife watched it with me. When it was over she was like "that's it?, it hasn't been half an hour yet!" She was impressed that the show didn't drag on like others. She actually rewound the BETA and watched it again. Great job Dave!!! Can't wait to see more. Oh ya, gotta love the boat. Pretty much the exact thing I am after.
  4. Ahhh, that's what winter is supposed to be like. If it's gonna be cold, might as well have snow to slide on and ice to climb on. Oh and I guess ice to fish on as well .
  5. You get to play in the snow with a "power tool" What is there to think about? Get out there and blow some snow. Maybe even do the neighbors? There's nothing like snow to make you feel like a kid again!!!
  6. As sad as it is, yes it is legal. I almost had one slam into me as I was making a left hand turn in the city. At the bottom of a hill in a fifty zone this cop comes flying over it with no light or siren doing about 80-100. Luckily I look before I turn or else there would have been some serious damage. I was ticked. I called the police station and told them. They said it was legal, he was probably on a call for buglary so they didn't want to spook the perp. My response was, so they want to kill someone instead? Now I had my ambulance licence (expired now). When I took the course it was made very clear that we did not have special powers. We have to obide by the law just like everyone else. We do not have the right of way even if our lights and sirens are going. It is just a warning that we are coming, to alert others and hope we are given the right of way. As an ambulance driver if you are in an accident at an intersection that you went through on a red light, even if your siren and lights are going, you are at fault and can be charged. I do not know about the police, but I guess they do get granted special powers?
  7. Yep it was cold, but still nice. I went to go out yesterday in the St. Lawrence. Made it a bit farther than you. I actually got away from the dock, motor running, as I shovel snow off the boat. Get out in the river, go to make a turn. No turn. Crap steering froze. Luckily I wasn't very far from home. Dropped a line anyways and used the bow troller to get back. With what we had here, I can see how Picton would have been nasty. It looked like a great day for fishing, but I guess the fish thought other wise. Good call on only wasting minnows and nothing else. How big is your freezer? Could always keep them till you can walk on water.
  8. I don't usually comment on pics. Mainly because there are too many of them and they are all great, especially compared to mine. But,,, ya these are really cool pictures. The colours are amazing, as is the setting.
  9. Thanks for the reminder. I thought I read that the 20% goes all Dec.? Could be wrong, had to quickly get off the website as my wife was coming. Yes the new regs. say 2008 on them. I got mine at CTC here in Brockville.
  10. Seeing those nice fishies sure make me wish I played hooky yesterday to get one last bass in the boat. Who cares if it was whiteout conditions! Those are some nice hogs.
  11. From what I understand, the licence goes from Jan.1 to Dec. 31. I would say, do not buy one till after the new year. No sense in wasting money on something you don't need till then. You should be able to get one before your birthday. I cannot see the government going, no you cannot give us money.
  12. Cool video. Mean of you though, as I have to wait 6 months before I can fish for bass again . You'd think with all those bass chasing, one would take a hit.
  13. Hey Kev, Can't help you much in the area you want to fish. I got out yesterday (for my last smally fish for the season) and noticed the river is up about 6 inches from last week, hopefully it will be the same for you. I managed to catch 5 nice smallies in about an hour and a half. I was using a 1/4 oz. weighted hook with a green/ gold speckled 3" tube. I was fishing 10 to 20 feet of water. The location I went to was the same place I fished in the spring for them. Had to stop because my bildge pump burnt a hole in itself. Getting that fixed tonight so I can get out again this weekend. I just have to remember where and how to catch the toothy critters as Bass closes here on Friday. It's gonna be a long winter.
  14. By the time you convert the currency, pay for the handling, shipping, tarriff, duties, and taxes I don't think you'll find it that much different than buying in Canada. It probably will not be CCG approved either. That is not really a big deal though. If you are in a boat, just make sure you have an approved vest and you'll be legal. I have a couple of rescue vests that are not CCG approved, but I would trust my life to them before I would a "boy-o-boy". Warrenty would be another thing. If you have a problem and have to send it back, it could be expensive and a very long time.
  15. I haven't got one yet, so I'll have to keep wearing my glasses I guess. My favorite rods I use right now are Compre and Cumara by Shimano. I'm just wondering how these compare. As for the colour... It''ll be easier to see if I drop it in the drink
  16. So I saw these advertised a few months ago and was tempted. I am wondering if anyone has any info or input about these rods? Am I getting suckered in to advertising, or are they a decent fishing tool? Thanks
  17. I have a 7' Crucial Baitcast Med that is alright for pike, I have landed a few 40" with it. I prefer to use my 7" Compre baitcast that is med. heavy. I still have the senitivity, but more power. I also use a 7'2" Cumara spinning Med. Heavy. It also works really nice for the pike and bass. I get a lot of feisty fish here in the St. Lawrence river, thus I prefer a med. heavy rod.
  18. Being that this is my first year of really fishing, everything is new. That's what hurts the most. -Lowe bass boat. Awsome for the summer shallow water fishing. Not so great in the wavy stuff, you get wet. -Some cheap rods. One that really stood out was the D-shock rod that came in the OFHA membership kit. It is a nice rod for what it is. -some not so cheap rods. Old Crucial Baitcast-alright. New Compre Baitcast-really nice feel, fights really well. New Crucial flippin stick-hasn't been used enough for me to tell. New Cumara spinning-this thing rocks!!! It is really nice. Very sensitive, great fighting power. Cost more, but for the amount I use it, well worth it. -Reels Castastic, alright does the job. Phleugher triton, nice casting and drag. Stradic 2500 very nice drag system. -lures I have a lot that have never seen a fish. Some favs. Reef Runner and Husky jerk. -Cinkos, these are really amazing. I have to admit, with everything I have in my tackle box, these are all I used for 95% of my fishing. -Save Phace Phish Hedz Mask. A really great purchase. I do not have a windsheild on my boat and take a beating all the time. It works amazing at keeping the face clean from bugs, dry and warm. A great investment!!! I recomend wearing a windproof balaclava with it though, as the cold air circulates around the mask making the edges very cold.
  19. I like this one the best so far. My first thought was, this would be awsome on a large screen tv. Jump out of your seat kind of action! It looked like it was still hangin back to maybe go another round?
  20. Hey Mike, I thought you were an old dog here. I too was apprehensive about going. Glad I did. It was great to meet you. Thanks for finding me a spot on the floor and recommending Ted to fish with. I don't think he knows how much we both appriciated being on his dry yacht compared to what my very wet ride would have given us. As for the banana....
  21. Great report Kevin. Although you should get rid of the MR. , I'm not that old .I was happy to hear fish were being caught as soon as I arrived. But then the reports were getting thin, oh well. I too had a great time meeting everyone. I also want to say thanks for the hospitality of cabin 4 for letting me crash on the floor, although they don't believe I stayed there as I was out before they were all awake. Thanks to Ted as well for taking me on his boat on Sunday, alowing me to leave mine parked on the hill. It was a much more pleasant experience on the water being in your boat. I'm sure Mike appriciated it too! What an awsome group. I showed up not knowing a sole and was quickly made to feel right at home. Had some great laughs, really good food, and got a t-shirt too!!
  22. Great to hear a report already, albeit a low fish count. Lew it's not to late to go. I'm heading down this afternoon, common, hook up the trailer and see you there!!!
  23. I'll make sure I bring any messages with me. I'm here till about 2 pm tomorrow . See you there.
  24. Cool video. Looked like you were picking up speed as you went. Too bad it didn't latch on to give a fight video. As for subscribers? Being in retail I can tell you that you can advertise every way possible out your ying yang. Until the person wants something they will not even know you are there. When they want it they will take it. We've been in business for almost 5 years here (2 doors from Tim Hortons) on the main street. We still get people coming in that didn't know we were here? The videos deffinately will add a drawing factor.
  25. Got it packed. As far as getting it up. It takes about 3 minutes by myself, like I said, easy. I also have an 8 foot plastic table I'll pack if needed.
