I've heard that they are pretty decent laker lakes....Mountain moreso than Horseshoe. Should be easy pickins running spoons at 30 feet right now. Kids were swimming in Gull lake last weekend, just down the road...temps were up to 69 I believe. I'll be on Gull this weekend, draggin the cannonball on some nice 30-40 foot flats I found last year....lookin for the one fish in there that's above the slot

Zero hesitation -- that was pretty amazing. But yeah....why not a net?
-
That's fantastic --- what a perfect way to start the season!
-
When in doubt......Atlantic

Great report and pics there Jay....as usual! That is defnitely a lake on the bucket list
-
Gotta love it when a plan comes together -- nicely done

Great report as usual, Garry -- thanks for taking the time to lay it all out and let us "wrap" our heads around these "upside down" concepts of yours I'm pretty sure I was using the same -- or very similar -- Husky Jerk this past weekend. Black/silver, suspending, but the finish is almost foggy on it....has a glowing quality like the skin of a chubby minnow in the water. 2 pike went absolutely nuts on it

Well done sir! We never got any eyes, but pulled up our fair share of lakers. Nothing on those spinners you gave us....but they look great...will defninitely pull something in on them soon!

Yeah, we have a handy little cookstove....but coals provide such a better cooking experience. BBQ's technically okay....so maybe we bring a metal tub and fill it with "coals" Just in case though....what's it cost to deliver some Chinese food to outhouse island, Wayne?

20 years...nice! Here's hoping you catch a few that have been around that long as well
-
Yep...have used them under the ice....very handy for stinger hooks, or finess presentations. I like a swivel when using spoons though

Way to go! Always very satisfying to catch fish on a new lure....now you've got the confidence in them. One thing I do to all my pike spinnerbaits that have rubber skirts, is take the wire from a twist-tie, and wrap it around where the skirt is secured to the bait. A couple twists, fold it over and trim off the excess wire, it doesn't get in the way and really holds the skirt on for a long time.

I've heard the same cedar shim/hook harness rig described for use with kittens. Still don't believe it mind you.

In my experience, you have to drain the fluid off, no choice. I don't lay them on paper towel and bag them so carefully....just throw'em in a tub of salt (the pickling salt) and leave'em in the fridge. I drain them once a day. 20-30 minnows usually takes 3 days to drain completely. THEN I put them in the ziplock bag Then the freezer. Then I forget to take them fishing with me

Oops....just realized that I was talking about Little Lake in BARRIE....forgot that there's another one in Midland. I take it alllll back.

Hmmm....might have to call. Looking around the website I got when clicking on the link above said that you would have to use a stove for cooking. Doesn't bother me....if we can't sit around the campfire at night, it just means we go try to find some shallow roaming walleye bold added by me: Can I Still Go Camping in a Restricted Fire Zone? Yes, by all means, go camping, hiking, fishing, have fun and enjoy our most precious natural resource, but if you need heat for cooking and warmth, you’ll have to take along a portable gas or propane stove. When travelling in a Restricted Fire Zone, exercise extreme caution. Watch your propane or gas equipment carefully. Smoke only when stationary, never while walking or working in the bush, and make sure that all matches or cigarettes are dead out before disposing of them. When an area has been designated a Restricted Fire Zone, you know the situation must be serious. Use your bush sense and act accordingly. Be careful with anything capable of starting a fire.

Wayne, do you mean cook with a bbq or camp stove only? From what I'm reading that appears to be the only way....
-
There are pike in little lake. Small ones, but I wouldn't call them hammer handles. More like screwdriver handles. I'd expect you would catch 5 aggressive OOS bass for every one miniscule pike at this time of year. Take Wayne's advice and putter around the harbour.

A really handy tool is a thermometer. I picked one up at LeBaron for $8 that has a valve to let water in, and has a gauge to approximate the depth. I've checked it against my depthfinder and it's pretty accurate. Great for finding where the ideal temp range is.

Anyone Want To Join Me Brook Trout Fishing?
johnnyb replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
Would love to join you Mike...but yeah....would have to find a new job, new wife, and new fishing buddies when I got back. Hittin' one of my fave backlakes in Temagami for the long weekend. I even have a float tube! Good luck dude PS> Don't forget at least one roll of tape this time, ok? -
Was very close to buying a mirrocraft...very impressed with how sturdy, wide and deep they were (the model I saw, anyway). Only passed on it because we got a better deal on a Smokercraft.

As always, and enjoyable read....great pics and footage too
