A good reminder that a pair of cutters are handy, even if you aren't musky fishing. Cutting the other points off that treble would've been a lot easire than sliding it off the split ring....plus you wouldn't have gotten such a good grip on the bowline at the launch I keep a small pair that I originally bought for downrigging, in case I ever had to cut the cable. So far, they've snipped 2 trebles and no cables

Sounds amazing....certainly a day you won't forget. I know *I* wouldn't complain if I were to feast my eyes upon this beast. OR.....just come up with a few paintings for us....no rule against that!

The way I see it, you can either go back there again and it will be beyond perfect, as you have wrung all the bad luck out of it....or you will go back there and never be heard from again! A great report -- glad to see you all made it out safe and sound, with a few more stories to tell.

Awesome report -- way to break that puppy in! Maybe build a box to cover the batteries up front and just extend the small platform that they're tucked up against?

I got the combo for $60 many years ago...I don't even remember seeing Okuma stuff back then. It will at least stick around as a linecounter reel for longlining, or a back up rigger rod. Since I will likely be getting a new reel, at least I can get a left-hander this time around. If I could find a Daiwa Accudepth lefty, I'd choose it over the Okuma, but so far they are either super rare or non-existent.

Yep, I know it isn't a fancy reel, but, its done great for me for quite a while now, and the clicker seems to be a simple mechanism. Won't be heartbroken if I can't fix it....would just be nice to spend money on more lures/rigs than on a replacement reel

Hey guys...wondering if anyone can help me out here. I have a Walker 100LC reel that I use for downrigging -- cheap and basic reel but has held up really really well to lakers and a few salmon. On a recent outing, I had a spirited fish take a few nice runs, and I left the clicker engaged. Usually I only engage it when letting out line to avoid birdsnesting...then take it off once I'm running at my desired depth. Anyway, after I brought in this fish, I went to set up again and the clicker switch was really loose, and would barely engage. Upon reeling in, the clicker is nice and loud, but when letting line out, it's barely catching, and I can actually see the switch getting pushed out of position. Has this happened to anyone? I opened it up last night, but couldn't see any way in which to tighten that switch....any pointers would be welcome. I've checked reelschematic.com and mikesreelrepair.com but neither of them list Walker for diagrams or parts. And the Walker website doesn't offer up anything useful...except new reels

And if he does that, then people start bashing him because he is a high pressure salesman, trying the oldest trick in the book "I got a buyer here...they're gonna take it....you better come down right now!!!" That's why a deposit makes everything simple. YES, I'm buying this. Here's my money. If someone else wants to buy it and I still haven't sold my boat, then I either pony up the dough, or take my deposit back and lose the new boat.

I like the bit about going back and forth on a spot, almost like figure-eighting a musky.....but I don't see how this is really that effective. He missed all kinds of areas that he should've been casting tight to shore. Most I would take from it is zigzagging the bait a few times at boatside, when you're right up against the weeds. Otherwise....I'll let the wife do the sweeping and I'll catch the fish

Gord Pyzer had an interesting article about trolling in the prop-wash for them last year....he came across it while talking to a guy from a lodge up in NWO. Big Williams Whitefish, sometimes with a 3-way and weight to keep it down, but, 10 feet behind the boat....sounded crazy, but was also getting lots of action.

Congrats on your daughter's grad....very proud moment for you I'm sure. And yeah, I would've had a hard time holding back on the driver....absolutely cannot STAND that kind of behaviour. Blly Bob....I have to speak up....I used to drive down the middle lane as well....but then it dawned on me: I now have to watch for crazies coming from the right AND the left. Staying right, I (usually) have a wide, empty shoulder to move into should trouble arise, and only have to worry about erratic behaviour from one side. Seriously, drive right, pass left. There are looonnnggg stretches of road with no exit/entrance ramps....no need to ride the middle then.
