  1. That's what I don't understand. Why can you put one together that's smaller, lighter, and less expensive than what's currently available? I feel like someone is going to take over the market but I'm still waiting.
  2. I felt bad for Colin but at the same time I felt great for me. lol. Funny how the first fish of the weekend had to have two hooks removed and the last one that Colin caught also had a second hook in it's mouth, obviously from quite a while back. And don't you talk about splake that way. Pretty sure they're the greatest fish ever invented.
  3. Me too. Dis gonna be fun. Someone might need to humor me for a bit while I try to catch whities. Bet they've never even seen a Meegs jig.
  4. Hey Mike, I have a 3 pc Compre and a St Croix they both fit in the St Croix tube. Both are surprisingly stout. Shoot me a text if you want to borrow them. My phone broke and I lost all contact info.
  5. For what it's worth I agree completely. I think it's a bit ironic to complain about NF threads 3 pages deep in one of the most NF related topics I've seen here. I skipped over the thread for about a week then I guess I got bored cause here I am. Glad I got to read Lew's story
  6. You might look into Orangeville reservoir. The Conservation authority puts huts out. It will certainly freeze before Simcoe but not sure how quickly they'll have the operation up and running.
  7. Personally, I'd dump all the fishing stuff out of my pack it and fill it with proper winter gear. For me, that's mostly wool and down. Once that's sorted, I'd see what room was left for fishing gear. 1.5km is not a long way especially on a packed trail. I'd probably look at making two trips if I was solo rather than skimp on gear. A blue foam mat under your air mat should provide enough insulation from the ground. An air mat with nothing under it will be soft, but cold. Costco has down quilts and vests for about $30 each. Big thermal value for very small weight and minimal pack space. You'll want to avoid sweating. Better to start the hike cold than finish sweating.
  8. Actually hearing some whispers of more atlantics being caught this year. I just finally stuck the long rod in the truck. I don't even think they'd cost money. Just take some of the browns they dump in the Irondale river - never to be seen again, and a few of the 10 thousand brookies they feed to bass in Kennisis and Voila! Tigers.
  9. Just take them to Angling Specialties - Mississauga or Concord. Don't take side cutters to a $500 rod when a proper fix will cost you about $20.
  10. I'd never heard of Flippr before you posted it but the original post inspired a discussion with a fishing buddy on our way to fish a stocked lake that contains trophy size specks ironically enough. If a lake has trophy potential - why not manage it as such - even if it is stocked - even if they are hybrids. There's already hundreds of lakes that you can go catch pan size brookies and splake from.
  11. People have been making auto jiggers for years. This guy just had good timing ..... and facebook. I saw a guy about five years ago with a pretty slick one at Quinte. Though his certainly looked like it "could have" set the hook as it had a pretty swift upward jigging motion before falling back on slack line.
  12. Anyone else think that a sleepy little Ontario Provincial Park could make themselves a destination by stocking Tigers? We already have hatcheries with Browns and Specks. We already stock hybrids in the form of splake. Seems like there is an opportunity here.
  13. My buddy saw this moose so he stopped his car to get out for a better look. He watched it enter the bush and walked back to his car where a news crew was now waiting. The reporter asked if he saw the moose and if he'd mind going on air. He replied "i'd rather not" . Camera guy says "we're rolling" . First question: "Were you surprised to see a moose this far south?" Reply: "I guess a little". 2nd question: "how do you think it got here?". Reply: `probably wandered down the Rouge valley.` 3rd question: "they`re vegetarians right?" Reply: None. except for a barely audible giggle from the camera man. Unfortunately it looks like it didn't make the cut, I don't know, it sounded like pure gold to me.
  14. No I don't own a recruit. I've fished out of the clam X1 and the otter and to say they are robust would be an understatement. The recruit doesn't look to be as heavy duty but unless you expect to abuse it I think it would perform just fine.
  15. Awesome as usual Bunk. I think the "little scammer" might have bluffed you.. Sure looks like she was having a good time.
  16. Take a look at the Frabill Recruit as well. Bass pro and Sail have pretty much their whole lineups set up on the floor so it would be a good time to check them out.. Popular models seem to sell out quickly..
  17. Clam X1 thermal would be my recommendation.
  18. Really cool. My kinda trip, I was in Manitoba this summer, I wish it had occurred to me that Tigers live there. And you can count me as one who is looking forward to part two. I spent quite a few years chasing Auroras and will always have a soft spot for them.
  19. Ha! This coming from the only guy in the province still out crushing largemouth this weekend lol. Good times as always Chris. Funny story, had a chance to meet Chris' mom and she casually asked what lake we were going to? Just as I was about to respond Chris cuts me off with a made up lake name! He explained later that his folks talk to too many neighbors up there. If ever there was a truer sign of a trout guy, I haven't seen it.
  20. Love it. Your buddy looks like he just hit the jackpot.
  21. Really cool. Here's to hoping it's more than just local. We could use some decent programming down this way. On a side note, I was passing through Dryden this summer looking for a spot to wet a line with my nephew Jack (6) , and I thought dammit I should of PM'd Limey.
  22. No river or stream flow? A good size minnow under a float or a hair jig under same. A spoon or jerk bait if live bait is not an option. What they eat? Fish. I fish a spot in fall where the browns chase schools of shad, sometimes right under your feet. It is something to see.
