There was a time when I kinda liked the idea of catching one of these clowns doing his thing on my car (or any car). These days I kinda hope I don't, unless the guy is very small and very slow. JF

Jeez. Next you'll be telling us there's no Santa Claus or Easter Bunny. JF

So we just have to chew our water before swallowing. JF

I know lots of golfers who swear by the magnet thingies, and I believe they really get relief. I suppose it makes a modicum of sense, given that the human body contains certain minerals in microscopic size particles (molecular, atomic, whatever) that should be attracted by magnetism like their larger counterparts in the real world. Dunno if that's the principle or if it's related to polarity & electron attraction in general but what have you got to lose? Even if it's just a placebo effect you still get relief. Go for it. You sure won't be alone in wearing 'em. JF

Whoa! Dunno if my ultralite bass gear woulda been capable. JF

Congrats to U.S. President-elect Barak Obama

Perhaps the lack of Canuck voter involvement is as much a result of sub-par political candidates and grey and greyer party lines as mere voter apathy. How many flavours of vanilla ice cream can one countenance before losing interest? Perhaps we Canucks are just becoming innured to having little to choose from and need someone to step up and offer a change, even if it's only putting the first woman or the first black man in the first office, or offering a change from the usual lies and political hackery. Hell, if some of our candidates up here in the frozen north would even be credible liars they might get my attention, but choosing between Dark Grey and Charcoal is pretty durned pedestrian. It's time we Canucks reared up on our hind legs and demanded a viable alternative from a political party. The ones we've got have lost their allure. We're mired in shades of boredom and chicanery, and the chicanery is of a low order. If the Green Party could only overcome their innate sense of typical Canuck insecurity and show some cojones they could probably garner loads of votes, if only as an attractive if unknown alternative, but they're too timid to step out of their "we're not quite as obtrusive as those Green Peace freaks, but we'd like to see some change that doesn't offend anyone" mode. Who says we have to subscribe to the liberal/conservative paradigm any longer? All we need is a viable, and ballsy, alternative. Oops. I just fell off my soapbox. Gonna go now and wash away the bruising with a brew, Canuck, of course. JF -
Exit polls and late night talk shows rule. Everyone knew this was happening, except the fringe element conservatives. JF

I'm neither liberal or conservative in American political terms, but going in I favoured McCain, although the idea of anything not Bush was appealing. I was disappointed when McCain let himself be over-handled in the campaign. He didn't come across as the guy I was expecting, the maverick, and having to carry a newby like Palin probably weighed heavy on his campaigning. During the debates I definitely got the impression that Obama was better equipped for the role of statesman, although in terms of history I thought McCain had the goods. The GOP handlers kinda blew it for McCain though with their attempts at making him into a confrontational hardliner, obviously something counter to his nature. I think I'd like John McCain as a buddy, probably better than Barack Obama, but fate, and their handlers' judgement, have given the world Obama as a President. One can only hope that he's more than just a black candidate and can assume the reins of leadership of the greatest (most powerful) nation in the world. That cloak of American greatness is in dire danger of shifting to some Asian shoulders unless Obama et al prove worthy of the responsibility. Good luck to him and the USA in sustaining their role as world leader. I'm cheering here. JF -

I found it. I remember thinking thoughts like that but hadn't remembered sending it to the mag. Mebbe that has something to do with being on the downhill side of 60. As for the mag, I like the content. As a recent returnee to the wonderful world of bassfishery after a 50 year hiatus, I really did enjoy the articles that dealt with bass tools & tactics at a level even I can understand. I suppose for the same reason you grizzled veterans of the bass wars might find it a little rudimentary. It's tough to satisfy everyone. What I really wanna find out is where all those pretty girls in the bikinis do their bassin'. All my fishing companions seem to be unshaven potbellies suffering from terminal flatulence. JF

If i brought home a boat, even as a contest prize, my wife would make sure I had lots of time to go fishing with anyone (but her). In fact I'd never have to worry about who chose channels again, about leaving the toilet seats up, about having 2 cars, etc. JF

More to the point, will you promise to NOT try to kiss him. JF

Would serve y'all right if you woke up on Christmas morning to find bass and pickerel hanging off yer trees. That fishy smell is nice, on the lakes and rivers, but in yer livingroom, it really bites. JF

That's the great thing about hockey - everybody has different expectations. If you find Avery entertaining, then by all means enjoy. I'd rather watch hockey. JF

I did? Sheesh. I read the mag and didn't even see it. Now I gotta go back and look. JF

The money gets spent, but the reputation may live on. He'll never be remembered by anyone for the money he made, only (by those few who actually care) as an embarrassing sidebar to hockey. JF

Neat. If you ever happen to be holidaying on grand cayman, take advantage fo the tour to Stingray City. They take you out on a big pontoon boat and you get to wade in 3-4' of water on a sandbar with 100's of Stingrays. It's quite an experience having them squirming all over you, through yer legs, etc. I saw one 3 footer actually flap his way up over a person's head. My wife headed back to the boat when that happened. JF

Smacking your lure into the water to get rid of weeds

Some of those muskie lures must sound like a brick anyway. My buddy Rob gets twitchy if I even start throwing a Baby Torpedo. Says is sounds like a small beaver's joined us. JF -
If any of us approached our jobs with his attitude, we'd be making nada. Says something about the sport, huh? JF
