It was always a battle at our school about which were the "real" white bucks. Personally, I favoured the thick black soles but the guys who wore the red soles were for the most part tougher than me, so I let them think they were right. My thick soles were certainly more comfortable. I always thought the red soles looked like intern shoes. JF

Did you favour the ones with the thick black soles, or the thin red souls? JF

Grapes went off on him tonight at the intermission. Had a bunch of snips of him pussying out of fighting with anybody who was older than peewee age and bigger than a dwarf. It was hardly complimentary, and when even Grapes thinks a guy's a twerp, that's bad. JF

I thought it was vaguely Afghanistanish. I just watched Charlie Wilson's War last night and he wore something like that. JF

Sadly, my fishing attire isn't very preppy either, not even when I pretend to be a flyfisher. The vest is almost cool in a twisted geeky sorta way, but the pants are way too baggy, and the boots would get me thrown outa Hahvahd summarily. The hats don't even bear mentioning. JF

They don't seem quite preppy enuf. JF

Martin or Taylor? JF

Back in the day I went for a few years when I wouldn't have been caught dead in anything but Clark's, Sperries, or Weejuns. And there was usually some madras in my clothing. Remember that? JF

I'm a small enuf man to admit that I like the imagery. JF

He had shifts last year when he was arguably the best player on the ice. JF

Avery's a good enuf player to get ice time without the shenanigans. He's perhaps even good enuf that the dumb stuff may be hurting his value rather than adding to it. But that being said, no doubt there's a level of fans who are more interested in cheering fools like Avery than appreciating good hockey, and they pay to get their butts in the seats. They probably also watch Nascar for the crashes. Personally, I like my Nascar without crashes, and my hockey without Averyness. JF

Me too. You can hold me up in the stream. JF

Yer on. JF

If yer impressed with Avery, then you don't care much about hockey. Perhaps he shoulda been a pro wrestler. They're into hotdogs. JF

That sux. It's one thing fer you young budgers to get up that early, you aren't already in countdown mode like us old codgers. We're avoiding greeting the next day like the plague, cuz it's the downhill side of everything that's good, unless you value value baldness and decrepitude. And when yer old and creaky, the balance goes second. Y'all think ya know what goes first and it ain't memory, and it also ain't what yer thinkin'. I'd share it with y'all, but ya need to find out fer yerselfs. The MNR needs to develop a fish species that thrives on sunlight and shallow water (other than those dang' carp), that gets up late in the morning and is attracted to (sparse) grey hair .... oh yeah, and portliness. Then they need to impose new fishing regs that allow only those of us over 60 to prey on these particularly dumb lazy fish. It would be nice if they'd be toothless like bass and disinclined towards long spooling runs. The world is tilted in favour of you young studs. JF

This kid's got a lot to learn about trolling. JF

That looks like an excellent way to spend part of a day. Creek wading is the way to go. Two questions: 1. Does anyone here use a river stick? I have one, courtesy of a friendly Ottawa Valley beaver. It was lightweight (some kind of Poplar I think), already stripped of it's bark, and ready to go. All I had to do was drill three holes and insert two pieces of light cord. One for a wrist wrap and the other so I could hang it across my back when not in use. The top end sticks up over my left shoulder so it doesn't interfere with my cast. It's very handy for fast flowing creeks when the water gets up around my hips and I can no longer see the bottom. 2. Are there any lazy steelheads that don't start swimming until a more reasonable hour, like 10 am? I don't function well at 5 am. In fact, I may not even function at all. I did well to get out at 8:30 this morning on yet one more fruitless basschase in the Thames. Lotsa pretty scenery (we tried a new spot) but no bass. JF

So, the truth. Did ya puke when you pushed that thru? I came close just looking at the pics. JF

I second that, big time. I have examples of neoprene that proves it (several wetsuits) and my Bare drysuit (more like heavy weight breathable wader material) is showing signs of stress at the folds from being stored in the tote bag that came with it. Hang 'em up by the heels or on a hook through a fastener attached to the material. Don't hang them for very long with the weight on the suspenders. They tend to stretch and lose their elasticity. JF

Has anyone had any issues with the Lowrance unit mentioned earlier? I've been thinking about picking up one of 'em now that the price is better here in town. JF

Wish I could show y'all pics of my guitars but they've all been stolen by my son and now live at his house. All I have left is the old long neck banjo which I can't play worth a sore patoot. Some of you Gretsch fans from the London area may remember a feller by the name of Rick R. who had a pretty nice collection of Gretsch units. He was co-owner of Music Mart back in the day. My little bro worked there for years selling stuff. Skinny redhead who could play pretty well. His name is Rick too. JF

Cain't hardly blame ya. I look right pert in a skirt. Let me know when yer stoppin' by so I kin put in my storebought teeth. JF

Are we crazy or are we obsessive in fishing

Try scuba diving under the ice. That's cold. JF
