i just bought ice 45 , waiting for the ice now, i used a portable hbird 535 for seveal years and decided it was time to upgrade for this ice fishing season hope to provide some input once i put it to use, anybody heading out into southern Ontario ice that needs some company in 2010, i have a week booked up in Temagami in Feb but really need to get some more time out on the ice

I certainly can't say I have caught all the species listed in this thread but so far my favorite and most thrilling to catch is brookies PB is 5.5 lbs in Algonquin Park, I could catch these beauties all day. Nipigon would be a dream come true.

I picked up 2 ST croix ice rods at the BPS last winter, they are great and seem to be very sensitive, not sure what type of fish you are targeting but I was catching lakers and whitefish with them ... just picked up a quantum rod and reel ice combo at Gagnon's today on sale

I have been fortunate enough to have tripped through Algonquin for many years ... its getting tougher now as the old back can't take it ... But we have winter camped at Mew Lake for several years, I am not going this year however, my buddy has booked again just before Christmas The yurts are great, they have bunk beds and a heater in each yurt and the cooking is done outside , bring your own portable bbq ..it is actually quite comfortable inside with the heater. They also recently (couple years ago) got the comfort station functioning (showers and indoor toilets). The peace and quiet is amazing especially during heavy snowfalls, there are several cross country ski trails if thats your thing ... We always bring lots of wood to burn along with some drinks for around the fire ... there are a lot of hardcore campers that setup with tents and even saw some guys building and sleeping in a Qunzee (type of igloo) Since I don't have enough time to ice fish and I have invested more money into it , I am now saving my weekends for that ... too bad Algonquin is closed for ice fishing. I recommend you try out the yurts in winter.

whatever will come out of this .... its going to cost him .. he certainly wouldn't be the first .... i guess he's found himself a deep patch of rough !!!!

good info from everyone, thanks it's done ... picked up the ice 45 from Gagnon's .... on sale now just the need the ice ..... i'll let you know if it increases my catch percentage

i agree with your comments Jocko like any questionaire , the answers may not be true .... people can take a survey just to manipulate data, what is with question 27, i think it was 2 questions with 2 possible answers, or am I missing something

there is a video on youtube on the ice 55 functionality, i try and and post the link later If do purchase the Hbird I'll wait to see if they have any boxing day sales

thanks guys I totally understand the loyalty thing .... also the fact that if you are happy with the flasher unit you have why would you want to change I have had a chance to try the vex's and was impressed, however i like the fact the Hbird comes with dual beam 9 and 9 degree, the cheaper vex's you need to purchase the dual beam transducer which will probably end up around the same price as the Hbird If anyone is using the Hbird 45 or 55 this winter maybe you can post a video like Limeyangler did with his X67C, his videos are great BTW. Just love seeing the fish come up to hit the lure on the screen.

was just wondering if anyone was thinking of purchasing a humminbird flasher for the upcoming hard water season I have been using Hbird fishfinder 535 for 6 yrs now (summer and winter) , and would like to get the ice 55 for ice fishing I saw the 45 and 55 at BPS, the 55 is almost $600 ,,, ouch .... saw some listed ebay for around $440 US not sure if I will spend that kind of money ... yet last winter i got a chance to use a flasher and i was blown away by the way i was able to distinguish fish

yes they could go down the hole, I have never had that happen yet i only use the tip up when targeting whitefish, i suppose a laker could hit it but when using a spreader i watch the tip up very carefully and when it moves up ever so slightly thats the trigger for whitefish, i belive it taks some practice but it works

thanks guys, I am not expecting it to be free .... my initial consultation with Hydro One office, the lady indicated that a contractor will have to asess it ... My lawyer told me that the hydro line is a non registered easement, the property was severed and sold back in the the 1950's. The pole limits where I can build a cottage, so if I moved it 20-30 ft I would have a lot more options as to size and location of a building. If I can convince them that it would be easier for crews to maintain the line if it ran along the road and not through my property ..... just a slim chance that i might get a deal.

Hey'yall I have a vacant property up north and the road leading to the property has a hydro line along the road. Where my property begins the line cuts across the property on a bend , with 1 pole on the property then the next one is back along the road. I already knew about this when I bought it and figured I would deal with the issue when were ready to build a cottage. Has anyone got a hydro pole moved or know from experience how much it would cost ... I figure we need to move it 20-30 ft ... I have a call into Hydro One, waiting for a contractor to check it and give me a quote but just wondering if anyone may have gone through this process. Cheers
