Cookslav's Algonquin "speckapalouza" 2010
Musky or Specks replied to Cookslav's topic in General Discussion
Not true cookslav unfortunately North Tea and Manitou are both lakes that you have to portage into and are allowed motors up to ten horse. I think it has to do with lakes that have private cottages on them. -
Add about 60 pounds of soda and pour over ice. Sorry couldn't resist

I was a very lucky youth. Besides growing up on the banks of the Grand my parents bought a high/low trailer when I was five and we spent every weekend and a full two week vacation traveling around Ontario. As soon as the camper was raised the add-a-room set up and I had filled and carried back to camp a plastic water bottle I was GONE to fish whatever waterway we were on. I remember distinctly the first trip we ever took. Summer of 69, Lake Scugog Bird something or Birdie or bluebird campgrounds. Everyday I would meet this older boy down at the docks he helped me fish and we would catch perch like crazy. Then one day in the evening the boy probably ten or eleven hooked into a musky. To a five year old it left an incredible impression. It was bigger than me. The kid landed it and even got his picture in the local paper. I couldn't ever get enough of fishing in grade school my buddy and I would go to this pond right near our school at lunch and fish for chub using bread from our sandwiches as bait. We didn't use rods just a spool of line and a small piece of twig as a bobber. We never had adult supervision Its a shame that kids today dont have the same freedoms I had as a child.

Would never happen they owe our greedy banks way to much money. The banks would undergo existence failure if the price of oil dropped to low.

Dont show those pics to the London police or they'll be sending the ERT your way.

This wont be popular but Basic resident permit $100 then user fees to fish for costly species(fish that rely on stocking for maintaining population)ie salmon, steelhead, grand river etc. Introduce one time tags for species similar to what they use out east for atlantic salmon. These tags would have to be purchased in order to bring home gamefish(not panfish) species. All revenues back into enforcement. Declare the brook trout a threatened species and stop the destruction of southern ontarios coldwater resource by greedy developers who use the OMB to trod roughshod over efforts to stop them from doing just that. -
Fly Rod Kit For Sale At Costco.ca
Musky or Specks replied to alexmedic's topic in General Discussion
Yes they can and Maserati's can go 200km/hr but its absolutely unnecessary and your paying for something you don't need. All the above mentioned functions are useful only if your in the salt. Otherwise there just geegaws. And Im not familiar with the rod company Im just concerned that he could put more of his money towards the important things heck I have an 8# Coma flyrod from china that I love. Cheap foreign technology is sometimes a good thing. -
Fly Rod Kit For Sale At Costco.ca
Musky or Specks replied to alexmedic's topic in General Discussion
Might be okay for a starting outfit although they advertise the reel more than the rod and in most instances a reel does nothing except hold the line. My advice to new flyfisherman is to spend the most money on your rod, then a quality flyline and the least amount of money on your reel.In flyfishing its all about your rod!!! In fact my favorite outfit which is a sage 4 # worth about 500 bucks.Has a cheap tin reel that I picked up at a garage sale for $5 It offends the gadget wieners that I sometimes fish with which makes it all the better. -
How long do steelhead stay in the rivers?
Musky or Specks replied to Mykester's topic in General Discussion
I know some huge logjams that the backwater above them will hold steelies all summer until the high water comes back in the fall. They look like snakes by mid august and I don't bother them although I have been tempted when I see them sipping caddis flies in the evening -
Just carry a big knife Anybody remember that story a couple years ago were the guy from Kitchener had his dog attacked by a bear while solo canoeing near Wawa. Killed the bear with just his 8"knife. I guess loyalty goes both ways between man and dog.

Headed out to fish a lake for crappie that Ive only iced fished before. Big lake and want a few choices in baits for covering water. Will have slip floats and tubes and jigs and live minnows. But was wondering if there were any faves out there for covering water.
