  1. Watching them guys fish the classic was sort of an eye opener to me, they probably have more cash tied up in their electronics than I did for my last boat new. 15 inch displays and such? I didn't see any budget electronics and there was references made about video game fishing. Just from my smallie days on Lake Erie? finding them when you are seeing a 6 to 8 foot wide piece of the bottom at a time was time consuming, especially when the area with the rocky bottom was a few miles long. It's a lot easier to justify the expense if need it for your job?

  3. https://www.humminbird.com/Category/Technology/Side-Imaging/ I am certainly not up to date on all the technology John, but they seem to claim that? " Welcome to Side Imaging It’s all in the details. Gain a 180 degree side-to-side perspective on the world below the surface with remarkable Humminbird® Side Imaging®. In an instant, the ultra-thin beam scans the area up to 240 feet to the left and right of your boat location—for total coverage of up to 480 feet. The return image for each slice is then added to the images taken immediately before and after to build an incredible view of the lake bottom. You can then magnify the detail of the image with the zoom feature or mark the GPS location of promising cover or structure directly on the screen. Side Imaging's high-frequency beams reveal structure, cover, and contour changes with crystal clarity. The images are so real you might think it’s a camera, but it’s not, so it doesn’t matter how murky the water is. "
  4. chris I have no experience at all with them, and even the two I had on my boat were old technology. The ability though to see anything that might hold fish farther off to the side of the boat just seems to be a plus to me, a rock pile, change in bottom contour could be a difference. I think that they use the standing trees and sunken bridges as examples? but weeds and weed beds? Schools of baitfish or larger fish off to one side? Just getting a hint that there might be something on the side to checkout saves time and gas?
  5. I watched the 2018 BassMaster Classic, props to Jordan Lee for the back to back wins. There was some discussion from the commentators during the event on the number young guys in the field and their ability to grasp the technology that they have grown up with. The ability to see 240 feet or so off to either side gives you a huge advantage if you are able to decipher what you are seeing. These kids are fishing in high school clubs and college clubs, they are learning the technology early. You're in 30 feet of water and seeing a 10 foot circle, that guy that can see 240 feet off to either side has an advantage, how many fish do you miss, or how much more time do you have to spend locating them?
  6. https://www.bassmaster.com/tips/fishing-electronics-part-1-basic-sonar " if you’re over 12 feet of water, your most detailed screen information comes from an area about 4 feet across directly below your transducer. " I have never used one with side imaging, but it seems to me that having the ability to see a wider area could be golden?
  7. It's been more than 50 years ago, my dad was there for opening day of walleye season, as I recall that is the lake they tied the old lyman up too tight to the dock one evening and it was full of water the next morning, the water level came up a lot. He caught one laker, casting a spoon off the dock for pike, and someplace called the narrows I believe is where they had most of their walleye action. Again as I recall black flies were a problem then.
  8. Condolences to the families, what a tragedy.
  9. I just viewed a deposit as a definite show of interest, most people won't just give you a couple hundred bucks on a sale like that and walk away or not show.
  10. It's sort of like networking? Get yourself involved and you can find more opportunities by word of mouth? There are electric motor only lakes here, limited horsepower lakes lakes and bass clubs to fit the laws and budgets. Some guys from the club I was in started having Wednesday evening pick up tournaments once a month at a small local water supply reservoir. It was electric motor only and 20 bucks entry fee per person, winner takes all. Fun fishing with a payout?
  11. http://peterboroughbassmasters.webs.com/ Since I am not from your area I have no idea what options you have, that link might be a place to get more ideas. A local fishing tackle store might also provide some info? If you're new to it a club isn't a bad starting point, it can open up new waters and opportunities, they can also be a place to learn.
  12. Ah, high technology stuff, thanks.
  13. Old, blue boxes? Mailboxes?
  14. It howled on this side of Lake Erie too, some serious thunder and lightning and rain. I had tumble weeds blowing across my yard, but no shingles! http://www.cleveland19.com/story/37887438/national-weather-service-confirms-4-tornadoes-100-mph-winds-in-ohio That was way south of me, as I recall Wilmington is near Cinci? http://fox8.com/2018/04/04/lightning-jolt-driver-captures-video-of-lightning-striking-car-in-cleveland/
  15. A different country, but I sold my boat, a tandem axle utility trailer, and a compact diesel tractor back in 2009 off of craig's list. I asked what I thought was a fair price for each, specified no haggling and cash only, they were all gone in 2 days. Now if you're selling a boat or something involving a lot of cash going together to the bank might be a better plan.
  16. It was back in the early 70's when I went to the Sandusky river in Fremont Ohio, same deal, I had never caught a walleye while fishing in Lake Erie waters at that time, but I had no interest in catching one that way! They may not have called it snagging, but it looked like it to me. Even back then the guy fishing next to you might have been a game warden, they watched what was going on closely.

  18. Not personally, but my dad and uncle fished it many years ago for the spring opener and had a good time. That may have even been the camp they stayed at, they said it was on an island.
  19. Dang Lew, much more scenic than my country road! Mine has drainage ditches on both side, they seem to be a collection area for fast food trash, soda and beer containers.
  20. I wonder if his friends and neighbors know how great a sportsman he is?
  21. I tried most of the time to make the drive from Ohio to PAB after rush hour here on Friday evening, leave here around 7pm and hit PAB around 5am. It's been almost 30 years since I made that run, I can only imagine the day time traffic now. Always fun to tool around town for 8-10 hours in an 18 wheeler, come home and take another ride? The destination was though a lot better!
  22. Jann's in Toledo Ohio used to sell blank crankbait bodies that were already painted, no idea who made them, but if you put them side by side with a bandit crankbait you couldn't tell the difference, add the hooks of your choice and they seemed to work just as well, at about 1/3 the price.
  23. Except for the drive that sounds like another fun trip! I have just seen pictures but it looks like a cool place to fish. No idea what to tell you on the cover, it seems like a long way to travel without one on, but I was trailing a tinny.
  24. Cool! except for the lack of crowds of people it looks almost like the walleye run on the Sandusky or Maumee rivers here in Ohio. " unique short dorsal spine on both landed Walleyes " mutants? An area of Lake Erie I used to fish seemed to have a high number of smallmouth bass with one eye that looked like the colors ran together, no visible damage or scaring around the eye, just weird looking, it didn't seem to affect their ability to find food at all.
  25. I have dabbled at it over the years, sometimes it's just assembling parts.
