The future of Diesel. Is there one? NF
OhioFisherman replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
The guy that used to own my property was a heavy duty diesel mechanic, bulldozers and other types of construction - demolition equipment, those will probably always be around? -
I can remember catching them when perch fishing as a kid.

I woke up from my nap to tornado sirens, ominous looking skies! Even here in the tropics bugs aren't an issue yet.

At Presque Isle? https://www.fisherie.com/Presque-Isle-Cascade-Creek-Map https://charts.noaa.gov/OnLineViewer/14835.shtml The top link shows a number of launches, the only one I ever used was the marina lake one, it is in the park which is the entire north side of the bay. The bay is only around 5 miles long and a mile wide? The south side is the city of Erie. It's been some years for me 206, but the ramp was good and with it in the park there were more patrols, so more safety? As I recall the entrance to the park was gated, it opened at like 6 am? I can't recall ever fishing there before mid to late June though and only a couple of times fun fishing, most were part of our club's tournament schedule. We always limited our tournies to inside the bay itself and imposed a 3 fish limit there, it almost always took a minimum of 10 - 15 pounds to stand a chance. Some nice largemouth there too.

I used the Anderson ones on my boat and crimped them with a crimping tool, the other one looks the same. Home Depot or a place like that probably sells them or may rent one?

I watched a couple of videos showing the walleye run in my area, the run has been on here for a couple of weeks at least. Now we are looking at 8 - 10 consecutive days with a high probability of rain, hope that it doesn't hurt the spawn!

When I first started driving a truck back in the early 1970's you still saw some gasoline powered trucks, mostly straight trucks and city tractors. Some of the companies I worked for had Ford tractors with a 460 Ford engine and one had Dodge tractors with a 440 Chrysler engine. Both of those engines were over 300 hp, but if you put them up against a 300 hp Cummings in a tractor? The Cummings diesel could probably pull them both whether they wanted to be pulled or not. I don't see any solution to long haul transportation that is going to be viable any time soon, and even for farming, construction, sea power? Diesel is the most cost effective method of power. Cliff, my grandmother and grandfather lived upstairs from us in a two family home when I was growing up. I can't recall gramps ever going fishing with my dad, but he was always there to help with the fish cleaning, and us kids got to dig the holes for the guts next to his rose bushes! He had some nice ones! LOL, my neighbor on one side used to get like 50 chicks every spring and like 8 weeks later butcher them all and freeze them. They should have buried those parts a lot deeper! Our dog would try to get in the house carrying a chicken leg he dug up! He searched for "treasures" a lot!

https://marine.honda.com/outboards/motor-detail/BF2.3 I remember tooling around PAB all day with a 5 hp Sabre as a kid with a 2 1/2 gallon gas can, LOL I learned patience, I wasn't going anywhere fast! 1 hour at wide open throttle on a liter? about 10 hours of run time?

I have had a couple of friends lose boats stored at marinas, and I doubt if things are much different up there than here, keep your own insurance coverage on your boat all year! An ice jam on a river let go and washed away 40-60 boats store on cradles years ago, they hit the iron breakwall and sank, lot of stories in our papers here about it, people not carrying their insurance over the winter to save a few bucks. Another had his in a rack storage and a fire melted a bunch of them.

LOL, I remember seeing them as a kid around the breakwalls at the Cleveland lakefront, never any small ones though.

Family cottage burnt down - need advice

Wow, the few pictures I saw look terrible, luckily no one was hurt. I can only imagine the hassles involved, especially if you have to deal with them from a distance? Even the foundation of the cottage may have damaged? A complete do over? Take pictures of wreckage and destroyed items? It may help determine initial value? -

Fishfinder, was that the one in Gravenhurst? -
LOL Brian a couple more weeks of this weather and my son can start harvesting our grass crop! Too bad there isn't much of a market for that type of home grown! We have had some 50 - 60 degree days and snowflakes the next day, typical March weather here. I hope you can get out fishing soon!

Sorry about your families loss, never been thru anything like that, but pictures of the cottage and contents before the fire might help to establish the value? -
Squid, I believe that ramp is in the Erie Islands area, but it sure looks like a lot of people had enough of cabin fever?
