  1. As I recall you had to stay left going in on that one, got some good smallies there once, but never again.
  2. Hmmm, I was born in 51, the mind is starting to go! LOL
  3. As wet as this spring has been it should make it a special year for the mosquitoes too!
  4. LOL, Akri my first time there was in 1964, so I was just turning 14, GPS back then meant Going Pretty Slow? dead reckoning? make a mistake and end up dead? Never really had a boat there capable of any speed, and it was so much different than the waters here, much more caution and a paper chart on the boat at all times, the guy on the bow of the boat was the rock watcher! I saw enough small motors there at the bait store with busted up lower units to seriously want to avoid hassles like that after driving 500 miles to fish!
  5. A one day thing Brian, it's about 15 degrees cooler today, I can no longer handle the heat anyway so cooler is better for me. Just glad my area seems to be missing the severe storms that seem to be hitting all around us!
  6. I sheared a pin on a 5hp motor once there when I was young John, I had spares in my tackle box though, easy fix, still wonder about the cause though, must have been a submerged log because I had been over that area many time with no problems. Ya it's a challenging area to fish until you get to know where to avoid or proceed with extreme caution, changing water levels just further complicate it. LOL, drove a couple of wives nuts myself, practice makes perfect!
  7. I remember the jugs from Pointe Au Baril, your government might have gone broke trying to mark all the hazards there.
  8. Thanks Woodsman, I run a couple of ad blockers, they may actually protect me from that sort of stuff?
  9. I don't see a survey on those links when I click on them John. The last time I saw Lake Erie was when Deg and Whopper from the board took me fishing in the Island area. We were on a friend of Phil's boat and we left a mud line leaving his dock in West Harbor. East and West harbor here were affected by wind direction, it didn't take too much of a breeze from the south - south west to push water out of ether of them. Hopefully this high water will help the spawn, I know some of those bays I used to fish needed a couple more feet of water the last time I fished them. Never seen the north shore of Erie, some areas here have cliffs 20 - 30 feet high at the waters edge others no.
  10. Oh I agree Squid, like with the walleye spawns here on the Sandusky and Maumee rivers, those two get muddy very quickly because of all the farming activity south of the spawning areas.
  11. My son and crew were out trying to get the grass cut today, he got a sun burn ( 86 degrees ) and got hit by about 15 drops of rain, 30 miles away? Severe storms and power outages.
  12. LOL, John click on the links with your right hand? both took me to news articles that way. Oh ya the cost of shoreline repair can get very expensive very quickly, an old family friend from my Avon Lake days was in that business and always seemed to be busy when the weather was good.
  13. High Lake Erie water levels causing problems for boaters, marinas | fox8.com https://www.cleveland.com/sports/2019/05/lake-erie-walleye-are-biting-stocked-trout-in-cleveland-area-is-a-hit-may-24-fishing-report.html?fbclid=IwAR1T4ZmItlld7NQ0fWvIdGca5bREzDSIbbl6D0urX1fZBLAzubQRdnXum7A Fish are biting? If you can get out? Another good chance of showers and thunderstorms here today.
  14. I remember a couple of my dad's friends stopping by the house when I was young on the way home from a trip to the Sandusky River for the spring walleye run, I guess it was just about over, they had a cooler full of huge white bass though, haven't seen them that big since. Caught white bass and white perch on Erie white perch were usually a good bit smaller and yellow - goldish tint to them. It was more common to catch the white perch in back water areas.

  16. LOL, I think Rachel at cardholder services has a thing for me! There was a news article here about how many billions of these types of calls made annually. https://www.cnbc.com/2019/01/02/as-robo-calling-ramps-up-consumers-increasingly-wonder-why-carriers-cant-stop-scammers-from-spoofing-their-phone-numbers.html https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/14/politics/fcc-robocalls-report/index.html Obviously our do not call list does not work? I also get the calls from microsoft and the irs about my past due taxes.
  17. I used to put a big crawler on a slip float with just enough weight to keep the air injected worm drifting over the emerging weeds in the spring, it worked for bass and sometimes the only way you knew you had a bite was the float would stop moving.
  18. High water helping makes sense Squid? More choices of spawning and feeding areas? as long as they aren't having to spawn in chocolate milk? and I could understand excessive current affecting a spawn? LOL, I woke up to pouring rain again!
  19. https://www.ontario.ca/page/open-fishing-seasons-and-fish-sanctuaries#section-0 " For unlisted species (e.g., sucker and rock bass), the season is open year-round. " I would still feel more comfortable checking? maybe a phone call?
  20. That has been my experience here too Wayne, years ago I came home from work and my neighbor told me that a hunter walking the railroad tracks had shot something in my back field and came onto my property to get it. I am not anti hunting, but I am anti trespassing to hunt. I called the area fish and game official and gave him the vehicle license number of the suspect, he contacted him and warned him about trespassing and returned my call and sent me his business card, and told me any more issues? just call. Haven't had a problem since.
  21. That was a great question Squid, just from what I could find high water levels may be beneficial in a lake, maybe not so in a river? https://thesouthern.com/sports/outdoors/flooding-has-negligible-effect-on-fish-spawn/article_c96a2fd8-12d8-54c7-9fed-22ec84435375.html https://www.timesleader.com/sports/715518/outdoors-high-water-could-mean-a-big-impact-on-fish https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0075951108000418
  22. It's been years since I have fished.
  23. I will side with Bill on that, not saying either wouldn't possibly catch walleye, but they wouln't be in my first few choices.

  25. Glen, if you have it out you might want to take it to an auto wash that can clean the bottom so you can inspect it for any damage?
