  1. http://fish.shimano.com/content/fish/northamerica/us/en/homepage/Shimano_Product_Page.P-STRADIC.html According to this the 2500 and 3000 models weigh the same, 8.3 ounces, 1.4 ounces more than the 1000, just me? 3000.
  2. 10+ addition in horsepower is a big increase in smaller motors, you would be 5hp from doubling your hp. Prices and resale value for what you have and want to get? On a bigger motor I wouldn't go crazy spending for 10 more hp.
  3. Toxic algal bloom shuts down Columbia Road Beach in Bay Village That beach is only a couple of miles east of where I used to live in Avon Lake, the lake is facing a lot of challenges, doing everything possible to protect the fishery and water supply seems fair to me?
  4. Just imagine how good it might be and stay if they banned commercial netting on all of Lake Erie?
  5. https://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-forum/446047-what-considered-lot-hours-outboards.html A lot of variables, a 25hp motor may not have been on a boat with a bow or transom electric motor and was the only source of power?
  6. Agreed, but the forage sustains a lot of species, there needs to be a healthy balance? I have seen huge schools of shad on this side of the lake that although not full grown were too big for perch and crappie to eat.
  7. That size issue could be location also, we fished the western basin during the 1980's in the summer, the average size was 2 - 4 pounds, you could catch a limit in a hurry, but if you were looking for bigger ones you usually had to head east.
  8. Thanks gino, just was wondering if shad were becoming more of a food species for the walleye with the apparent shortage of Emerald shiners,
  9. https://www.cleveland.com/sports/2019/08/lake-eries-fish-of-the-future-have-arrived-aug-16-fishing-report.html?fbclid=IwAR21Pm-F5IZRViZC7sCviGvPjB6cGiV-HsO7JOEd74AVCWYXLDlOCcMs1ac Nice catch could you tell what they were eating? That article mentions Emerald shiners are hard to come by on this side of the lake.
  10. Nice video smithy.
  11. I fished them until late September at Pointe Au Baril, I assume they deplete the oxygen content as they die off and break down, but I don't know how much of a factor that is. Location and luck always seemed more of a factor?
  12. After all my years of fishing a stretch of Lake Erie for smallies the ability to see a couple of hundred feet off to either side would have sure came in handy!
  13. I have watched some bass tournaments on the St. Lawrence, incidental walleye catches weren't uncommon.
  14. Lots of lures, the fisherman usually creates most of the action, it's pretty easy tp tone it down. If you can cast - flip - pitch to pockets in the pads or weeds just twitching a floating rapala can work.
  15. Now if they would stop commercial netting of Perch the numbers might bounce back?
  16. Keep in mind I haven't fished in years, during the early 80's you could troll, or cast baits like Erie Dearies, nuggets or even Rattle Trap style lures. I used to catch them throwing blade baits near the rocky areas of South Bass, Kelly's Island and the other western basin Islands. Finding them wasn't that hard back then even without great electronics, on this side all you had to do was look for the " school " of boats casting or trolling for them. They had a habit of suspending and we did a lot of long line trolling lures like wiggle warts and hot n tots for them, the smaller ones were kind of like logs, once they got over 4# or so a better fight! LOL almost like a sheephead! Lake Erie walleye on the move, but trophy fish still being caught: Aug. 9 Fishing Report - cleveland.com
  17. Driving with no or damaged bearings sounds like a very good way to cause damage to the trailer's axle? Worked on a lot of cars and trailers but never had to beat a bearing on, if nothing is damaged they should slide on easily with no slop.
  18. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=28+degrees+celsius Weather was sunny and 28 degrees celsius on both days. From the link, hot but not really excessively for days in July. Our club had a tournament on Sandusky Bay years ago off of Lake Erie, we had a self imposed area limit that only allowed us to fish in the bay itself and not go onto the main lake. Another bigger tournament launched from the same ramp as us and they had no area limits and most went out into Lake Erie for the big smallies. We were headed to the ramp shortly after the big tournament ended and their fish were released, a lot of the big smallies they had released, 4+ pound fish, were struggling on the surface of the water getting picked apart by seagulls, either not fizzed or not properly fizzed. 20 years ago we had self imposed 3 fish limits on some waters of Lake Erie, but we didn't have sponsors to keep happy with impressive catches of 25+ pound bags of bass? I fished a tournament years ago at Mosquito Lake here, it was sponsored in part by that areas local Walmart. So after launching at the state park, fishing all day, you had to trailer your boat, er and fish to the weigh in at the Walmart store 3-4 miles from the lake? Never fished that one again, just seemed more risk to the fish than I wanted to be a part of? Because you can run 60 or 80 miles on some bodies of water is it the best plan for maintaining a healthy fish population?
  19. https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/5032124/ford-replacing-f150-5-0s-due-to-oil-consumption I am just assuming that is accurate? A number of things can cause excessive oil consumption. LOL, complaining about 1 quart of oil in 3000 miles? They must have missed the 1960's?
  20. I personally disliked fishing deep ( 20+) feet for smallies or bass in general, just seen too many issues unless they were released very quickly after a catch. I am guessing it was a lack of proper fizzing issues?
  21. https://www.jannsnetcraft.com/netcraft-dominator-baits/520415.aspx#FullDescription 5 bucks for 20 5 inch https://www.jannsnetcraft.com/yamamoto-soft-plastic-baits/515301.aspx 7 bucks for 10 5 inch Doesn't every tackle maker have some spin off of the Senko? Colors can make a difference and it's pretty easy to get a different fall rate.
  22. https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/18/health/ohio-federal-indictment-miami-luken/index.html " The wholesaler distributed 2.6 million hydrocodone tablets and 2.3 million units of oxycodone to a pharmacy in a West Virginia town of only 1,400 people between 2011 and 2015, the Justice Department said. One of the pharmacists operated in that town, the indictment says. " Not all of them honest businessmen may be honest? I think overdose kits are available everywhere now.

  24. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Lake_Fork_Frog_Tail_Hook_2pk/descpage-LFTFRHK.html They make a couple of different types of trailer hooks for frogs, never used one myself so read the reviews on them? A lot of top water lures I would rather throw than a frog, bad hookup ratio usually, but in some areas they seemed to be the only thing that would get thru the slop.
  25. I don't think there is one lure to use, although I normally had a rod or two set up with some type of jig and trailer combo on them, location seems to be more of a factor to me. Our club fished a lake in New York annually that was only around 300 acres in size, and most years the winning bag came from the same area.
