  1. It`s probably been 5 or 6 years since I have been to one here, just seemed a better deal for me and the buds to make the spring run to BPS, Cabelas, and Netcraft than to drop the money at the show. Cost of admission and parking bought me 100 tubes at Netcraft, a better more reasonably priced choice of food along the way. If your seriously looking for a boat or a place to go on vacation it might be a choice.
  2. It`s hard for most people to use their driving skills when they are talking on a cell phone, eating breakfast on the way to work, putting on makeup in the car, reading the newspaper. Just heavy rain here Monday and accidents all over, closer you get to the city the worse it gets. Even though I am sick if the weathers bad I drive, with the dear wife behind the wheel I would have to be crazy.
  3. I didn`t look, this yankee doesn`t fillet pike.
  4. I started working on the truck docks in 73, a roof but no heat, kind of like a wind tunnel, whatever it was doing outside you got a piece of. 20 below? ya on the dock too! Driving a tractor trailer and trying to keep some kind of schedule was interesting too. Still better than being stuck inside behind a machine or desk not knowing what`s happening outside.
  5. Lew, you tried, sorry it didn`t work out.
  6. Joey when I started fishing back in the 50`s there were not many or any left hand retrieve reels around except for spinning reels. I learned on right hand retrieve baitcasters, we switched to Mitchell 300 spinning reels, my uncle sent some home from France when he was there in the navy. The cast with the right, retrieve with the left had a more natural feel, even though I am right handed. All my baitcasters are lefties, same with my spinning reels. I also feel that casting reels are a better choice for bigger fresh water fish, but again it`s all a matter of comfort, if it feels good you will do it more often.
  7. Some top water lures aren`t affected as badly by the weight of a steel leader, never tried a floro one so I don`t know how well they will work, lots of people on the board have real good success with them though. The lures that you normally have a pause in the retrieve have given me the most problems, they hit a lot on the pause, lure is stopped and they get a chance to take it deeper. Continued motion lures like a buzzbait are less of a problem. There was a product called twist weld wire, a plastic coated wire leader material that was easy to make leaders out of, any length just twist it and heat with a lighter and it fused the coating together, a number of different pound tests so you could match the leader weight to the lure weight pretty easily. The snaps and bearing weight can also throw off the lure action, some seem like they are awful heavy for the pound test of the wire leader they are made with.
  8. " I must fish 12 months a year"? winter is reel cleaning season! LOL great intro!
  9. Down here they are called Canadian cold fronts for some reason.
  10. Passport? are you invading us? LOL hide the wings!
  11. I match my line to the waters I am fishing, open water not a lot of junk in it 8 or 10 pound test line is fine, all I have to worry about is playing the fish. Fishing the slop, fishing wood or docks 8 or 10 won`t cut it, especially if you are fishing tournaments, nobody counts the ones you lost, just the one you weigh in. Why take the chance on losing a PB, and worse having it swim away with a hook stuck in it.
  12. Bass fear me! sometimes so bad they don`t come near my line!
  13. The serverers at Hooters are better looking!
  14. Oh No! the browns gave ohio state lessons!
  15. No not really, it was a game that you can`t expect to win all the time and a lot more relaxing than some other games. A little perplexing when you think you have a good game plan and it falls apart, but that is what next time is for.
  16. Nice fish! and very dark, wierd how that happens. We have got light ones and darker one from the same area and in some lakes the seem to run the same shade.
  17. Carp, Cleveland has a crime problem, I am sure most big cities have some crime issues, but it seems to get out of control here. I had a friend that was robbed at gun point fishing the Erie shore line in Cleveland at nite. To give another example, my wife had to have surgury at the Cleveland Clinic, one of the finest hospitals in the USA, but in a questionable area of town. Within a couple weeks after her surgury, one of the Clinics employees was shot and killed in a drive by shooting near the hospital and the clinics police force chased a guy that stole a car and he crashed it and was killed. I grew up in Cleveland, lived there until my early 20`s, I was glad to get out to the burbs and I avoid going back. A different mentality here maybe than Toronto, although I have heard it has changed some since I was there in 1973. Me and a friend cut short a fishing trip, cold front we couldn`t get on the fish and left Friday evening instead of Saturday morning. We decided to stop in Toronto and check out the nite life, more people on Younge street back then at midnight than on Euclid avenue in Cleveland during the day. We thought it was some kind of festival or something, everyone told us it was just a normal Friday nite, where are you from? Cleveland, it`s not like this? No, a good place to fight, get mugged or robbed, or have your ride stolen. Daytime is a lot safer, but still not like the burbs, caution is needed. Used to be a nice place back in the 50`s and early 60`s. Lots of stories from my trucking days, just a place I choose to avoid.
  18. http://www.wkyc.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=61341 Hope that does it! The fall walleye fishing here can be very good, if Lake Erie co-operates. It`s usually tough to get nice days to be out there this time of year, it`s Ohio "the gales of November" hit early here. Smallie fishing can also be hot late season, never fished for them on Erie after Thanksgiving weekend though. Just my opinion that the Erie shore fishing in the Cleveland area can be about as safe as wandering around the streets of Iraq. You need to be of aware of what`s going on around you. Areas east and west of the city are safer.
  19. John I will check it out.
  20. Like 60 degrees here today and monsoon season, more rain than I have seen for a few years. LOL glad it wasn`t snow!
  21. Big difference between a message board post and real life, I got to fish with them before I decide. Some people are great but not in a boat.
  22. Nice fish! Juneuary?
  23. Todays news at 11am, walleye. Lake Erie is 46 degrees take a hike the Cleveland shore line 10 degrees above normal for this time of year and the bite is on. 3 to 12 pounders, 10 to 15 hits a nite trolling off the Cleveland shoreline. News pictures showed some pigs!
  24. Spiel check?
  25. Good Luck PikeHunter!
