  1. Brian, I guess it must be the bad karma I got for thinking the following statement is so true: "Chinese people will eat anything with legs and moves, except maybe for table and chairs." and this one: Q: "How do you know Adam and Eve were not Chinese?" A: "They would have eaten the snake before listening to it." BTW I am Chinese-Canadian.
  2. I believe he meant battered as in "beaten up" and not covered with flour. Most fish tanks in grocery stores have too many chemicals in them to prevent slimy growth in the tank (also prevents slime from forming on the fish, thus the stress causes the fungus and other problems). I try never to buy store fish, fresh caught is soooo much better!! Stan
  3. My brother went to the store near his place and found out the floatation suit was NOT a brand named item and although it was Transport Canada approved, it didn't have any indication that it was Canadian Coast Guard Approved. There was no reflective strips on the suits either. I told him I'd take a pass on the item, I've got my Mustang Floatation suit that still fits (as of spring anyways).
  4. I can't even apprehend the type of loss. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family on your loss. Be strong and cherish the memories.
  5. Well, it looks like I won't be able to make it to this G2G either. Wishing all a safe and fun G2G, good luck to all those going and hope to meet you another time. Stan
  6. Congrats on your first and PB!
  7. My sincerest condolences to the Lindner family.
  8. Time out MH and GCD, stop hijacking this thread. Back to the thread, can any one make out the brand from CTC?
  9. Wild, where do i send you the bill for a new monitor as I just sprayed all of my drink over it laughing!!?
  10. Bbq'd eel (Unagi) with sauce is very tasty and good for the body. They are a bit hard to prepare initially, but once you get the hang of it it's like filleting any other fish. I wouldn't eat any of the eels from China a the moment as they've been fed things that shouldn't be eaten. If memory serves me correct the American eels was taken off the list of harvestable fish as it helps in controlling an invasive species in the great lakes. Deep fried in Chinese 5 spice is tasty too, not like other fried methods. Never even thought about lamprey until I read that insert by hammercarp. That's an interesting read. Stan
  11. Big Cliff, It's actually one of the things going through my head over the past week. I've never done an ice bungalow trip and would like to give it a try. I've even considered closing the clinic down for a few days and taking some staff out there as none of us have done it before. Sounds like a blast. I'm trying to figure out when and where best to go. Any suggestions? You can PM me the details. Stan
  12. Stop that, I'm still at work and won't get dinner for another hour!!!
  13. The Bog hates me too, 3 yrs of ice fishing skunking for me, even when taken there by guys that have done well there in the past. I've heard that there are some big slabs of crappie if you can find certain spots. If you search last season's pages you may get more info. It's all hear-say from me, so I won't go any further. Lady Simcoe has been much nicer to me. But still looking for my first laker. Gotta go build me another hut though. Good luck
  14. Umm, I don't think so, but where's the property and how much are they asking for?
  15. Paul, those pics gives me the creeps! Certainly, not the common yardwork decor!
  16. welcome to the board, nice bow.
  17. Very nice buck, congrats on the PB!
  18. Like Dave, I like the SnoBear idea as well, just can't afford one.
  19. I've already tried those too, done the Chinese way, once you get over the smell, it's something I've marked off as I've had it before list. Still have yet to try the "Prairie oyster".
  20. Happy B-Day!! Hope you have a great one!
  21. Let's see, if I recall correctly, carp was the most eaten food fish in the world until the aquarium fish the talapia took over it because of their rapid growth. I must admit, I've had a few carp in my life, they are edible, however eating other fish have made me picky and carp are not on the top of my list of fish targeted to eat. And as a side note I've even tried farm raised Japanese koi sashimi with miso paste in Japan. It's all about how you psychologically look at it. Some say "yuck" at sushi and sashimi while others love it. How about the next couple of other examples: caviar and truffles. I think every culture will have some food we are not accustomed to seeing on our plates or bowls but keeping an open opinion will keep better communications between cultures and less embarrassment at times.
  22. Looks pretty safe from that book. I'd like to try them myself one of these days.
  23. Mr. Heater portable Buddy. Awesome little heater.
  24. Congrats to the angler on the catch of a lifetime. Definitely one hard fish to top for any angler and showing some professionalism in the C&R of such a monster! Wonder what that thing ate, hopefully a few cormorants.
  25. Rick, I've only met you once at a x-mas swill 2 years ago but I recall you being one of the classiest guys there. I wish you all the best of luck and the speediest of recoveries! Hope you fish with you sometime in the near future.
