  1. Trolling was the ticket I believe in 3.5 ft waves...
  2. Hi Guys; I see the original thread is locked. Too bad it went that way. Here is a pic of the fish from the Larry on Friday. 57"x33" Released. No record requested. No glory. Just a nice big Muskie released for someone else to catch... BTW the angler is over 300lbs just to give some perspective on the size. Enjoy
  3. Hi Folks; Not a rumour it's for real. One of our Ottawa members and his wife (who are having an outstanding year) were fishing with one of our Gan members. 57"x33" is the reported dimensions. With all the crap that's going to go with it they will probably wish they just bonked it... Glad to see it released though, awesome fish apparently. There are some good pictures that have been witnessed by a number of other members including the Gan chairman who has caught a 60" himself so he has some perspective on big fish. The pics won't be available until Sunday when they get back. Like everyone else I am waiting patiently... Editor Muskies Canada
  4. You know what they say. You can't please everyone... It's disappointing to read so many negative comments about a club that is trying to do some good for the fishery. We are a small club of approximately 500 people spread across 3 provinces. We do what we can to try and help give something back to the fishery. Our members put in hundreds of volunteer hours working on projects local to the chapters as well as this one big project that we are all trying to accomplish. Some folks seem ticked that we aren't doing anything their area. Re comments about the Grand and Spanish Rivers. By the way our guys were right there with the MNR when they were working on the Spanish River restoration project years ago. That could be a future project for the club. If it really is somehting you feel strong about why don't you come to a meeting and head that project up? Others think that we aren't going about it the right way. - Restore the habitat first etc. Ok that's a great comment. When can we expect to see you out with our guys to help and do the dirty work? We need all the help we can get it's a big lake. Any of you guys Scout Leaders? Great project for a Scout Troop. Thanks to the guys that volunteered to help. - C&R only I am not sure about. I am pretty sure the minimum size regulation will most likely be 54" when the fishery re-opens. Also Know The Difference signs, funded by Fishing Forever and installed by MCI manpower, are posted around the lake. These signs show the difference between Pike and Muskie. Another public education resource undertaken by the club and it's supporters. - The money Muskies Canada raised to support the Simcoe project is in the thousands. A lot of the money raised came from members. It certainly wasn't diverted from MNR gas tanks as one comment suggested. Our club gives more to the MNR in the way of man hour assistance for their projects and fisheries data collection than any other fishing club I am aware of. There are some folks that are just so bitter that they would rather MCI didn't exist. Fortunately for the Muskies we still care enough to keep working on it... If anyone is interested in joining the club or just helping out with one of our projects please come to a meeting or check out our website www.muskiescanada.ca for more information. 5. Looks like we may have a full house on Wednesday. You may want to get there early to get a seat. The presentation will start @ 7:30pm Thanks Ken
  6. Mark your calendars for Wednesday March 14th. We will have G Loomis Rods representative Paul Shibata presenting on the process of rod building. Everyone is welcome to the meetings. Bells Corners Legion 4026 Richmond Rd. 7:30pm upstairs. Don’t forget to renew your memberships by March 31st to continue receiving the Release Journal. Anyone not renewed by March 31st will not receive the May June issue. Being the Editor I have the inside "scoop" you won't want to miss the next issue... There are some exciting things happening this year. I am sure you will want to be a part of it. Later Ken
  7. I don't know if you want to drive with him Crusty... He's Crazy... See you Tuesday...
  8. Ah yes the best time of year for sure... I have been an Earnhardt fan since 1980... Junior needs to Get'r done! This year for sure. If he can't then I really want to see Kenny Schrader win a couple. Show them youngins how it's done... 1 hour 45 minutes until qualifying...
  9. Just another quick reminder. There will also be a discussion about Release Tools and tactics. Richard: Sorry you can't make it. It was either Tuesday 13th or it was going to be cancelled for the month. It would have been a much smaller turnout on Wednesday anyway. Only the single guys... Wait a minute... isn't that all Muskie fisherman eventually... Crusty: The cost of a membership it is $50.00 for the year ending January 31st. Pro-rated for new members. Later Weekend Angler
  10. The Muskies Canada Ottawa Chapter meeting will be held on Tuesday February 13th instead of Wednesday February 14(Valentines Day) for obvious reasons. Our wives would kill us!! Just wanted to give a heads up for the members and any one else wishing to attend the February meeting. The topic is fishing Barbless for Muskie. The time and place is the same; 7:30pm Downstairs in the Bells Corners Legion on Richmond Road. Hope to see you there. Ken Taggart
  11. Those must be just your "Go to" baits... Where's the rest? Seriously those baits all look too new. They need more water time Yep it's a sickness. I got it narrowed down to around 200 that I carry in 2 main boxes. #1 A Plano Muskie box. 50 slots for hard baits and all Release Tools: Bolt Cutter, long Needle Nose Pliers, short Needle Nose Pliers and Jaw Spreader #2 A 70 Litre Sterlite Tote Bin with 24, 3"x2" PVC downspout sleeves with all my spinnerbaits and bucktails and my big lures. It also holds 2 Plano 3730s. The 3730s hold jigs, plastics and all terminal tackle: Spare leaders, Leader Material and sleeves, Spare hooks, split rings, file and measuring tape and I put smaller baits in the other one. I can go portable with a setup I made of PVC Downspout using 9, 12" pieces duck taped together. I used some heavy wire in one of the sleeves to make a holder for the Release tools. It holds about 10 baits and is perfect for shore fishing.
