  1. Exactly. Look at the HUGE spike in Washington DC when guns were banned, they have the tightest restrictions in the USA and coincidentally... the HIGHEST rate of gun crime. Look at what happened to Britain's crime when they banned handguns, they went up! If I was a dirty crook, I'd be targeting people who I knew DONT have guns. Did you know that before the government and police became so centralized and invasive in everyone's life, people policed themselves, and it actually worked! Think about it, prohibition only makes things worse in every single example, what it does it opens up a black market in every case, increasing violence. Also, do you think the Virginia shooter would of been able to get away with killing so many people if others were armed? How about Germany? I've never owned a gun, I don't plan on getting one either, but it is illogical to think that restricting them by law restricts them and their use in practice. The only people who benefit are the government and the criminals, and sometimes they're one and the same!
  2. Wow that's really disturbing, you can bet that if we had a right to carry in Ontario that person would have thought twice, in fact any crook would think twice. I don't know Jamie but hope he's doing ok that can be quite shocking.
  3. I'd also be very interested in this, would like to spend some time up north in the future.
  4. You're in the right place to pick up the knowledge, the technique just comes through practice This board has opened up many opportunities for me.
  5. Nice catch, I'm tempted to try fishing for these guys if a spinning rod and spinnerbaits like that work!
  6. Great stuff, I consider it a good day on Simcoe when I catch a few jumbos looks like you've been catching a lot more, and over 14" is just enormous!
  7. Well guys in fishing as in everything it seems these days, there is a lot of ignorance going around. Many of these people don't know, and if they know don't care! The people who understand will follow and the people who either don't understand or don't give a damn won't. Just the way it is, but it all balances it out in the end!
  8. I've ordered 4 of these to try out this year, from the comments it sounds like these are quite good, the online comments on cabela's were solid too so these will be in the arsenal. They seem like a lure that can catch quite a variety of fish.
  9. Beautiful looking fish, way to go! It was just its time to be eaten.
  10. Nice pike, must be very satisfying!
  11. I like your enthusiasm for fishing btw Mike, it reminds me of mine but I had little means to get out on the water, that has luckily continued to improve since I caught the hook!
  12. Hmmm considering how shallow you're fishing, if possible I'd recommend a floater and run a minnow just a foot underneath, could be the ticket what do you think fellow board members, are pike still sluggish to chase a faster presentation?
  13. It's funny, I shoot left and cast left even though I'm right-handed. Congrats to your grandma on makin it that age you should have some good genes which is a part, but more importantly the healthy lifestyle learned! I'm no pike fishing pro but I think there's a few factors to consider that could help you: size of bait (I think it may be too large considering the time of year its cold), I don't think the pike are very active now sloooooooow presentation is what I've gathered from various articles and posts, but GREAT PICTURES, nice camera angles you got the touch you'd be surprised how few ppl know how to take a basic picture!
  14. They are DELICIOUS. Similar to other fish with white flesh, sorta a cross between bass/perch/pike/walleye. I caught these buggers while fishing for bass/perch at night in the summer time and they were fun to catch! The big ones come to shore at night in the summer, they become more solitary after spring. This is the first time I've learned about their spawning / spring habits so I will be targeting them every weekend on ice-out. Seems like there's a fair amount of ppl who haven't fished for these guys that are getting interested on the board, should be good to head out to these areas together when the time comes.
  15. Wow, great vid. Nice camera position and angle with respect to the sun, and nice pike as well thats a sweet size.
  16. Hi I found a very good site for crappie fishing, well a post on crappie fishing. It has links to techniques as well as WHERE to fish for them in Ontario, this is a very good resource to answer your question and others raised in the replies: http://www.smartanglers.com/main/node/6937
  17. The lack of education about guns sickens me. I never have owned or fired a gun, but I believe in the right to bear arms, and frankly believe a well armed public can do a much better job of preventing crimes and improving safety than cops can ever do, since cops always arrive AFTER the crime. All those shootings in the states and around the world by ppl who have unfortunately lost their minds could have been STOPPED by an armed public. The next slap in the face is the money this would cost the city, what the heck is wrong with Miller, we need to overthrow this moron. I saw him in the subway once at the start of his term before I learned how naive and uninformed he is, next time I'd like to kick him right in the junk HARD.
  18. There is a lot of room for improvement in the medical care system here in Canada, and in many other areas. Be thankful it is nowhere nearly as corrupt and biased as America's system presently is, if you're not rich you basically have no help basically down there, but I agree the gov't here can do much much better, efficient health care should be an acid test for government imo. And while Canada is in a high percentile, why not aim higher considering the blessings of our country.
  19. Most likely it's not as serious as it sounds, but in these kinds of situations you don't want to take chances, better to be safe. In my high school we had an individual who just dropped in the middle of lunch time while waiting in queue at the cafeteria, no history of anything quite tragic, but in this case you have some knowledge so investigate. I wish the best for your friend she/he will be ok, keep us posted.
  20. Great video thanks a lot for posting, and interesting way to 'fish' for sure!
  21. Hi it depends. If I am at a resort, I will use the fish cleaning station. I have cleaned fish by shore and tossed the remains in the water. I've also brought them home and clean them over newspapers or cardboard. Just depends on the situation.
  22. I've been researching crappie feverishly for the past few weeks, as I too plan on targeting them for the first time. There's some really really great articles on the net out there I'd recommend you read. A google search for 'spring crappie fishing' and variants there of pulls up a treasure trove of information! The first couple of sites are gold. Basically from what I've read when the days get longer and water warms up they move into shallow water around structure to spawn, and then move out. Fishing with a bobber and minnow, or bobber and small jigs w/ small tubes seems to be the ticket. I would be targeting the mouth of tributaries or any water flowing into the lake initially, moving into the shallows and tributaries eventually looking for structure in shallow water.
  23. Not yet, I may start targeting them next weekend however.
