I hear ya. Her and her senkos. This time I fished the senkos and she got to fish the real lures like flipping jigs and spinnerbaits! Kidding...she was doing the same thing I was which was weird that she got skunked.

My wife and I decided we wanted to spend today doing a bit of fishing. This is my last week with the boat I borrowed for the summer so we needed at least one more outing. We woke up at the crack of 9:30 and were down to the lake by shortly after 10. Wow, it was smokin hot already! It was probably one of the hottest days I fished this year. Maybe not the hottest temperature but absolutely no wind at all made for a rather warm one out there. With the sun high and no clouds I figured the bass would be hugging the shade. So we focused on fishing overhangs and logs near shore close to deeper water. I think we made the right call. The first decent bass of the day was this guy which I pulled off a submerged tree with a senko, he weighed in about 3 pounds. Then I skipped another senko up to an overhang and this guy picked it up right away. A bit bigger and the scale was saying about 3 and change. I would have been happy with those on a day like today, and those are about as good as I have gotten out of that pond. A bit later I skipped the senko under an overhang and it had to have gone 3 feet into the overhang and I just heard a big splash and could tell my line was tightening up so I gave a good hookset and used the element of suprise to haul this girl out from a nest of twigs before she got hung up. My best largemouth so far. My scale was bouncing from 5 to 6, but I figure it was just a tad over 5 by the size of it. She was fat. The good news is I finally outfished my wife, the bad news is she got skunked and wasn't to happy about it . But I think this years season has really helped her enjoy fishing alot more. Now I just need to get my own boat. Anyone know of a cheap 14 foot tinny??? I got the trailer all ready to go .

Does anyone know if anybody has taken this on yet? My partner registered so if there were emails I wouldn't have recieved them. I have the list of emails so I can get it going if no one has.

I've fished a couple times from shore and once from a tiny inflatable boat. Got a nice pike and a couple smallies within a couple hours around the dam. A thunderstorm rolled in so I didn't get to explore it more than that. Been meaning to get out there again. I would expect there to be decent smallmouth and pike fishing, not sure about the largemouth there.

Well....don't have much of a report, but there is good potential there for sure. Thanks to everyone who provided me with soooo much info!! We only managed to boat a bunch of sub-pound bass, which was weird because we caught them all on big flipping jigs and usually the smaller ones shy away from them. The biggest bass of the day was a smallie that probably went 1.5 pounds. We caught him while just drifting a few feet off the drop off with tubes. Now, we only put the small ones in the boat, that doesn't mean we didn't have any action with bigger ones. The big ones just seemed to come unpinned really easily. I was using a rod I don't usually use for jigs and I think it was contributing to that, I just wasn't getting the hookset I needed. I lost about 3 bass in the 3-4 pound range judging by what I saw. I also lost a huge bowfin. And I saw a little musky just sitting in the middle of the river. All the fish we caught, and also the ones we lost were in the weedbeds. We were just dunking pockets because most of the lumber was choked in weeds anyway. There were lots of bass around the train bridge but after loosing one on my first cast they wouldn't be tricked again in that clear water. I will definitely try it again some time, maybe later in the year when the other boats decide to stay home. Lots of wake boarders and jetskis running full tilt through some narrow spots.

Whoa! Awesome guys thanks for the info! I fished the part of the river hometownhandyman suggested and have done well, just want to see some more water. We are targeting largies so thanks for the info jwl. We just have a 14 foot tinny with a bowmount so as long as there is about 5 inches of water we can get into it. Sounds like we should focus on the bridges. What should we expect to contend with in terms of boat traffic this time of year?

Baiting is common and legal for bears (at least I know it is before season, not sure about during season), and the season is just about to open I believe and may actually be open where you are i'm not sure. I've never hunted bear but i'm pretty sure this is common practice and completely legal, but don't quote me on it. Mind you I don't know about the legality if its crown land. Still private or public the hunter should have considered the campers in the area.

My brother-in-law and I are thinking of trying the Welland River starting down by Chippawa and working towards the Welland Canal. Has anyone ever been on this stretch of the river? Is it boatable? I am assuming it is because there is a marina down there. Anyone know what the fishing is like? We just have a small boat so we don't want to venture out into the Niagara.

That would have been a good idea! I had the sun screen on pretty thick and I was reminded to re-apply when my second PB&J sandwich was toasted brown on one side.

Went up to Island Lake again today. I wanted to try and get some more fishing in there before the water drops, but by the looks of things that will be well into September. This time I got the usual 2 poundish bass and lots of tiny pike, but I was surprised by this gal, must be one of the good breeders in the lake. Quick pic and back she went. I caught her on a flipping jig. Here are a couple of the bass we got. All were caught on either the flipping jig or a senko. It was pretty windy just like last time I was there but it was pretty busy out there, but such an awesome day to be fishin. I even ran into spinnerdoc from here on the board, somehow he recognized me. How'd you do spinnerdoc?

This past weekend my wife and I took a trip up to Manitoulin Island to visit with my sister and her husband, and my new nephew. Such a beautiful part of the province, almost everything could make a great photo. We hiked the Cup and Saucer trail. Great trail and a great view. And it actually looks over the land that I deer hunt in December. Here are some other shots I got while up on the bluffs. We also made the short walk up from my sister's apartment to Bridal Veil Falls. Not much water coming over them but still nice. I went at the wrong time of day though, so it was tough to get shots from the bottom since the sun was just over the edge.

Yep, circular polarizer filter, works great for water shots.

I'd be up for it if I could find a partner (with a boat).
