Toyota Recalling 2.3 Million Cars and Trucks
sirfish replied to craigdritchie's topic in General Discussion
Toyota still isn't being upfront and honest about the accelerator problem. We all remember when there was a series of unfortunate accidents where many innocent people died one case where a man and his family were going down the interstate when this happened, they had called for help and then the phone went dead ...all were killed. Upon Toyotas own investigation they "concluded" that the supposed "oversized" mats were the root cause. Prompting a mat recall/replacement.....case closed....NOT Then it was determined that on a couple of these cases the owners in fact had no mats in thier vehicle....one being a Lexus...This man survived thanks to the road ending and he ran into a field...upon a further investigation promted by the owners testimony it was determined that it was a sticking accelerator. This prompts another safety recall to replace the assembly....case closed..NOT It has been stated on a couple of the accident reports by the victims that the pedal in fact took itself to the floor almost like a cruise control kicking in... is this case closed , I think not. This will continue until Toyota recalls and replaces all defective ECM's . This will be a last resort as this will cripple Toyota..... With the ammount of accidents caused by this defect, % wise corporate bean counters determine that it will be cheaper for them to pay out lawsuits rather than issue a total recall. This is not the last we will hear of this. I,m sure of it. -
This thread has no merit. If you have to resort to a public forum for what should be the simplest ,and you already know the answer then suck it up and let him park there. If anything happens to his vehicle ...We told you so.

Crossing from the States into Canada Question
sirfish replied to moparhawk's topic in General Discussion
With all the expert advice i've seen here so far and living in a border town I'd say better safe than sorry Moparhawk. I just talked with my friend who works at the Peace bridge in Fort Erie and he said even if you think you have the proper paperwork there is a chance he might be denied all it takes is a mistake on the form or one piece of missing info and its back you go. Best advice contact the proper authorities. Go to your local immgration or gov't office , the internet forums can only offer..."in my opinion" solutions. Good luck and I hope he gets to go on the trip. -
Beautifully handcrafted..but what would you use it for ?

As usual the posse jumps on someone who does'nt echo your opinions. Maybe they did have a good time you don't know. Damn it it is a public board RESPECT thier opinions. You were'nt there !!! Back to the topic at hand. I will agree that Snowfari is not a client pleasing operation. I have seen it in action while using another operator. Its almost as if someone set thier kid up with a lemonade stand and he don't care one iota if it goes piss warm. With the amount of people that book huts even if he sucks he will get the overflow. After last season they purchased Jim Bows huts from Astorville to add to thier arsenal but....and this is a big but..they didn't get the GPS co-ordinates that Jim used to put his huts out. He never stayed close to shore and his huts always produced. He even came and took us to day trips to shoals that were awesome. From the pics that I have seen this year all the huts are close in.....Duh. I know that fishing has been rough with the lake still being stained and all but don't you think that they would explore new locations for thier huts.Nope. They will sit there all season. Hopefully they will get a wake up call in the near future....but I doubt it.

Wiser they are far and few around Ontario. I purchased the otter Walleye series 2 man about 2 yrs ago at The outdoor store in Welland ,Ontario. It is awesome. Lots of room and square tube aluminum construction . Sets up in minutes. Fits in the back of the van. Hope this helps. Give gander mountain a call ,they carry the otter sleds maybe they know of one in stock.....Thom

Think again Zebco. most of the 30ish that are coming up are allergic to hard work....unless it involves getting to level 5 on thier PS3 . You couldn't round up a 100 let alone the million that could hold a candle to any line worker. You assumtion of the 55 crowd is just that..an assumption. You have no idea what life has dealt them. I have a Christmas wish list...I wish I didn't have a Mortgage..but I do, I wish I had a newer car, but I guess the old 2004 one has a few more years in it. I wish I could afford to help send all 3 kids to university but according to you guys i don't deserve my job so it looks like community college if thier lucky. I wish peace and goodwill toward my fellow man but today you are not on the top of my list ...and tommorow does'nt look good either. But you are right , it is your opinion and you are entitled to it.

Last time I checked We paid for our own education...so.... why would we be wasting taxpayers $$$$ You are right I don't know what you do that , but how would you like to work an 8 1/2 hr day with only 2 ten minute breaks and a 23 min lunch? If you have to go to the washroom you put a light on and hope a team leader sees it before you almost piss yourself or worse. Your job is all timed. you have 23seconds to do each job before it takes off....and you don't want to miss it because then the next guy has to pick up your slack and he's not happy. Does it sound like you "want to follow me around ".....I think not. Some days I liken my job to the show on T.V about worst jobs. It's not somewhere where I want to go but it pays the bills.

Wow where do you get your facts !!! GM St Catharines has the highest quality for all of NAO. with a 95% first time quality rating and rising in plant. GDX in Welland where weatherstripping is made for a multitude of vehicles ,domestic and foriegn was the most efficient and fully agile of all the other plants . The only reason for the downsizing is new ownership not based in Canada. As for the hinges i don't know the facts so I won't comment. Its funny you would want them to fail..YOU WOULD BE OUT OF WORK and a burden to society IE ...UNEMPLOYMENT or worse WELFARE... DUH
-
You're not taking a pay cut for GM workers . Shake your head. You are taking a pay cut so your corporate bosses can maintain thier standard as to what they are used to. It always boils down to the guy at the top of the pyramid. For the record...I applied every year from 79 to 84 before I was hired. In the interim it was school and work.......so what was handed to me ...I think i paid my dues All last year it was easy to blame the oil companies ,now with the low oil prices its the Autoworker to point the finger at. ......When this blows over who will you naysayers point the finger at...United way ? welfare recipients? Handicapped persons ? Have you no consience . Its easy to follow a crowd and believe what they say without all the facts.

Pretty harsh generalization for someone behind a keyboard. FYI , Many "line workers" have university degrees. Some have more than one. Some are related to the industry some not. In any case, most are highly skilled highly intelligent people whether you believe it or not. You my friend would not last a week doing what I do on a daily basis.

Wow , there are some pretty harsh opinions on this "fishing forum". True colours of the pessimists are showing through like a rainbow. I am saving this whole discussion for future use in the event (god forbid) of an industrial collapse and I will post your original quotes one by one next to your post about being downsized ,layed off,let go, or someone you love that befells the same fate because of the collapse . Remember ,be careful what you wish for, it may rise up to bite you in the azz.

Finally someone with some insight as to what will happen if any of the "big 3" fail. Most of you have no idea the catastrophic fallout if this happens. As it stands right now the job ratio is 1 to 8 . That s right. For every 1 job lost in the auto sector it means 8 others directly or indirectly will be downsized to the EI line. When this happens I don't want to hear you all say why didn't the government step in as you waddle down to the EI office. If the collapse in fact happens it will imperil the foriegn imports as well . By this I mean that if the big three go then all the outside small part supliers will be closing thier doors as well and alot of them supply foreign auto makers also. So where will they get their parts??? The big 3 are their bread and butter, the foreign crap is a minute part of it. So there will be an imminent failure there as well . Then there will be some one to to emerge to supply parts at a higher cost cause it got them by the balls. What that translates into is a higher cost on a foreign car. Hmmm ......that leads us to higher auto prices again. we have come around once again. Fact: 1% of all profits from the sale of a Toyota stays in canada . How many jobs does this translate into?? Fact: in Korea 99% of vehicles sold are produced there. The other 1% are the sum of all other auto makers. Fact: Korea exports more vehicles to North America than are sold there in a year. Fact: Toyota pays it workers in North America the same as the big 3 and they are not unionized. Fact: 6% of the cost of a "big3" vehicle is labour. 6% !!!!!! Fact: without unions ,whats to stop all manufacturing from going offshore? I could go on. You can all bash the union all you want but without them many of you would not live the life you live today. They have set guidline standards . Without them companies would be paying slave wages. There would be no safety standards. YOU would have no rights as a worker. There are numerous police and fire men on this board Lets hear what they think about unions....Lew, Can. Copper ?? If you haven't figured it out yet I work for one of the "big3". There seems to be an age old "misconception"out there about auto workers. About how they are fat, lazy, overpaid, card playing, paper reading, cigarette smoking, coffee drinkers. This in part would have been true...10yrs ago. Today with lean manufacturing taking over ,you punch in and go to your job , you hear a bell, you go on the line.Next bell you get a 10min break. Next bell you get a 23min lunch.Next bell you get a 10min.break. Next bell you go home. Now if my shift started at 6:30 am and finished at 2:30 pm that gives me a total of ...43 min out of an 8hr day to take a piss or two and have a lunch. Yup, we are definately overpaid and underworked. Give me a break. I could pick 20 people off this board and take them to work with me and put them on the line . 10 of you wouldn't last the week!!! . The other 10 that stay will be screaming for thier union rep every day. So before you all go off on unions. Take a look around. If the government doesn't step in with a plan..an estimated 1 in 10 families will feel the fallout....You could be the "1" remember, being this is a public forum we all have our opinion. nonone is right or wrong. lets keep it real.

Mo, I don't want to sound like a "Debbie Downer" but, If it is a 3 cyl. OMC and its the top cylinder with that low compression chances are you broke a ring. Hopefully you stopped the motor and haven't run it as the broken piece of ring will pound the head and piston ruining the head also. If this is the case then a resleeve is in order along with a piston and new or if can be found, a used head. In any event you are looking at a hefty repair bill. This is the voice of experience talking as I have gone through it and found that this was a common problem especially with the VRO motors. Where for some reason the oil doesnt mix right for the top cylinder and it overheats and there go the rings. Take the top plug out and with using a penlight shine it into the plug hole while hand rotating the flywheel until you get a good view of the piston. Look for any gouges on the piston. if it is smooth with a little carbon buidup then you pretty well eliminate that problem but if it is all marked up $$$ If it a head gasket leak then it should be blowing white smoke out the exhaust. Check out www.marinedoctor.com this is a very reputable site with many knowledable mechanics onboard. Good luck.

I would just reformat the entire harddrive and make the computer my own. If you don't there will always be something from that family member on there that you may not want. Then you can open your own email account. It's better to start fresh IMO.

Darsky, Cory is right. You can only get thier cuban peso there and bring canadian dollars. Most resorts have a exchange banco where you can convert and get a good rate.....that is unless you bring U.S.
