  1. I have had much success this year going out of Pefferlaw. If the weather is nice I walk out and if its going to be nasty I go with Steves huts on Holmes point road. Either way I have not been dissapointed yet this year with lots of jumbos taken and one very happy kid. If you don't have a survival suit I would recommend you rent a hut. Good luck , Post pics.
  2. Hey David, what is your take on the Fuji S9000 I have the S5200 right now and love it but an upgrade might be in the near future.
  3. Try Smokeys right down near the launching area. Also there is parking down at the launch.
  4. T.J , I have stayed in both areas. Cayo Coco is an island and there is nothing to do and the beaches are so-so. The nicest place there is the Melia. The resort that Shad mentions is not canadian owned anymore and you don't get the same service anymore. Varadero is nice (for the older crowd though) IMO lots of nice hotels there to choose from. . That would be my pick, if the chance arises go to Holguin, cuba The area is beautiful and lots to do. If there are any deals to Punta Cana in the Dominican then that would be the hands down choice. I have been there 4 times and loved it more each time we go. Some of the best beaches and scenery you will find anywhere.
  5. Hey Matt ,You have picked one of the worst resorts to go to in Peurto Plata. Made that mistake a few years back and demanded a move and got it. The food is, and ,gives you the Sheeets. The rooms are in need of some serious help. Be careful they might try to put you in a loft room. Most roofs leak there and the washroom is outside your room. don't let this happen. As for fishing bring a telescopic rod and small spoons ,spinners and even a pickeral rig. There are places you can walk out on and there is a variety of fish. Rinse your reel after every outing if you don't it will seize up. For bait, you can usually get raw shrimp from the kitchen if you are savvey enough. If not twisters ,gulp or power baits will work. Hope you have a better experience than i did.
  6. How old dod the clerks seeing-eye dog put you at?
  7. Sorry Snag, they were within thier right as representatives of the marina. Most Marinas especially around T.O negotiate marina boundaries into the water. But on the flipside and there being no boats they should have just looked the other way or at least informed you about it for when the boats are in. Down in Port colborne the marina management enforces this to the letter but during hardwater tend to let it slide as long as your not on the docks or near the winter stored boats.
  8. On one occasion a few years back had the same problem with water freeze in the tote I used in the garage. I wrapped the tote and then inserted an old waterbed heater down the side where the pump was. worked like a charm for a quick fix for sub zero temps. Perfect for cold snaps like this.
  9. Go to crappy tire or Home hardware and buy a couple of 8" eye hooks . Attach two 4' pieces of nylon rope to the corners of your hut and tie on the hooks. Then using any portable drill , sink two 1/4 " or so holes at 15% angles behind hut and screw in hooks. Never had one give yet. Hope this helps.
  10. All fun agames till someone gets killed. Can't believe it hasn't happened yet. The things we will watch for entertainment. Post your feelings when someone dies. I'm sure you won't be as enthused. Just my opinoin.
  11. You should buy your next water heater. Those that rent are being ripped off ,but are so used to it on thier gas bills they just se it as normal. I switched 6 yrs ago at a cost of less than $300 for a 40 gal from Sears so at a cost about $14 a month rental ( just an estimate) if your heater lasts 3 yrs its paid for . So that heater in your house has been paid for at least 6 times. Also if and when your new heater decides to let go you can run out to Home depot within the hour and get a replacement and not have to wait for the gas company to come out ,whenever that may be. I think people are looking at the initial outlay of cash for the purchase and not adding up the savings down the road. So Buy ,by all means , but, don't buy the cheapest, you get what you pay for.
  12. Me doesn't think sturgman took the time to read the whole pop up. It only takes a minute or so to dload 7.5 FREE . IMO still the best FREE one out there. Norton is just a pain in the azz.Dunping it out was the best thing i did for my puter.
  13. KFTO, I am going to be 46 this year and have probably been to over 30plus parks in Ontario and some twice. The best that come to mind wouls be Restoule ,for the awesome fishing and overall beautiful park, Killbear , if only for the park , caught some awesome bass there and Sandbanks where you can fish west lake for multi species , Lake Ontario and its also a short trailer ride to BOQ public lauch in Picton ,Oh and the honeys that come there in the summer are nice eye candy to boot . I could go on but these are my top 3 . Good luck i'm sure wherever you pick it will be the right park.
  14. Heres one of my boy "Falkor" and me on the Rideau river. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d149/fal.../DSCF0361-1.jpg Hope this works.
  15. I'm all for it , I told the girlfriend that we were doing it first thing new years day and shes totally excited about the whole thing...BUT, unlike you crazy azz fools we'll be in Punta Cana and the water temp there is in the mid 70s....... Will definately have to warm up after with a few spanish coffees.
  16. Awesome mount sandy. For some ,a fish of a lifetime. Beautiful pup you got there I hope you and Dax have many years of happy memories.
  17. Suck it up keram, it is the same at any dealership no matter what brand of car you buy. If you think the big three automakers are expensive at the dealership end then you go right ahead and buy a foreign made car and I will do the laughing while your crying about a huge parts bill, never mind the cost of the labour. Go to your local reputable scrap yard for your window motors ,usually can be got for about $50 piece and installed by yourself (no manual required) in about an hour. If you have a question for GM then get ahold of your dealership and ask for the number of the area cutsomer service rep. or have him call you. My dad did this on my advice when his head gasket blew and he had it repaired at a local garage for a mere $900 ,half the cost of the dealer !!.he took the bill to a meeting set up with the rep and After a talk with the rep and some inside info on the inferior head gaskets they covered the cost of the repair. Question: why is it you see lots of older and vintage north american cars on the road but you don't see any older foreign made cars? Answer: because there are none, you can't find parts to fix them cause noone makes them and if you do they cost an arm and a leg.......JMO
  18. Wow does that bring back memories. I had the pleasure of watching the craftsmen at work there about 20yrs ago when we stayed at a cottage on lake wistawasing or wasi lake. We had one of the thier 18ft boats with us at the time. Awesome craftsmanship. Great to see that your gr father is still at it. How about you?
  19. Hey Dave ,what dates you going to be there? I will be there from Dec 31st to jan 7th . Staying at IFA Bavara village. I go somewhere warm every year and always bring the rod. Be sure to wash it off after each outing with fresh water or the salt will destroy your reel. You pretty well got the basics covered in tackle , use some good snelld hooks as the bait stays on better. If you are a good talker then go to the kitchen and see if you could have a few raw shrimp for bait. Usually no problem with a little tip involved. ;)you can walk the beach for miles down there and you are bound to find some sort of small pier to walk out on or just wade out wherever you see a reef, there are usually tons of fish there. Last year at the Allegro we found some guys that took us out for a fish on a catamaran. I believe it was $50 US. we were out for a couple of hours . What a blast. Good luck, let me know when you are going. Can't wait for your report....Thom
  20. Did some shopping around and found that the best bang for the buck all exchanges and duties figured in was states side....One problem with that though, places like Gander mountain will NOT sell you one unless you have a U.S address. On that note Honda U.S.A will not sell you a motorcycle unless you have a U.S addy also . Can't see why as I figured they would welcome the business........go figure.
  21. ccmtcanada, I also had that problem a few years ago , an old hvac guy said to put a cold air return on a wall near the fireplace and when having a fire turn the furnace fan on only. I put one in that I can shut off. This cured the problem and heated the upstairs nicely. In the summer I leave it open and the fan runs continuously on low which circulates the cool air from the basement and the air conditioning rarely comes on. Its worth a shot. It's amazing what the difference in price is from mid to high efficiency considering the wholesale price is only a $100 or so difference. My buddy is in the sheet metal trades and says he can get a mid wholesale for around $900. So the install and markup is incredible. When I sell in the spring I will be calling him to upgrade ,for sure.
  22. No probs irish, didn't know what that icon was for now i do.
