  1. That's a fantastic mirror carp. Some carpers have caught hundreds of carp without a mirrow...... you're truely blessed.
  2. I know I always regret after I respond to posts like this, but I'll try it again... In my local fishing spot, up until about a month ago, I saw people fishing illegally (mostly multiple rods) EVERY TIME I fish there. And I fish there 4 - 5 times a week on average. Now, I have a similar background as most of those law breakers, I talked to almost each one of them in the language they understand about the law. None but one has been fished with one rod since but no one else changed. I remember talking to one guy who kept an OOS bass while I was fishing 15 feet away, and he kept the fish anyway. I called MNRafterward and nothing happened. I am in the process of working with the town and MNR, to make a sign describing the water body and fishing regulation. Do I think that sign alone will help the situation? Probably not much for those guys but at least I hope the next generation will learn. If you know where Toogood pond is and go there to enjoy the park on a regular basis. Please call 1-877-TIPS-MNR to report the violations if you see people fishing with multiple rods or keeping OOS fish. I am sure if more people reporting the violations one day the justice will be done. Same applies to violations anywhere else.
  3. I wouldn't be too concerned because of this. I don't own a xbox but I'm sure there are some hunting/fishing games for xbox out there, ask Micro$oft why are they supporting anti-hunting but promote their hunting game at the same time. When it comes to lobbying for policy and law making. HSUS or organizations like that would never be able to outshine companies that make millions and millions of dollars from hunting, fishing or anything else. The same theory goes for our high auto insurance rate and gas price. Consumer groups will never win the battle with insurance or oil companies.
  4. That's a nice fish. I'm so jealous.
  5. Hmm....worth the wait and I can go to bed now.....Thanks Cliff....and I will give that salmon thing a try this year.
  6. Cliff, I am starting to charge you the late fee now..... and will send you my sleeping pill bill...
  7. Although I did catch some fish today, their report would make my dreams sweeter.
  8. Great report as always... thanks for sharing.
  9. Great report, making my yet-to-post first mirror carp of the year not so shiny anymore ;-) BTW, I wouldn't have minded the walk with you down there all the way ;-)
  10. Mike, we did leave the house at 4:30am. But with a 7 years old who had had TWO Timmie's plain baggle with cream cheese and two visits to the washroom, I was happy I got there before 6:30. I didn't get anything for the first hour or so, then it was this, Sean took the picture and he didn't think me and the fish should be at the center ;-) Sean got his first carp landed (with some help from me) and it was a nice 20 lb carp. That turned out to be the only carp he caught, but he had a lot of fun feeding those ducks in Cliff's picture. Then it was kind of slow for me... then the action picked up and I think I landed over 10 (didn't count, could be somewhere between 12 and 15) and lost 5. All in all a good day and we really enjoyed it. Might do it again this week since I'm off.
  11. Good question... I have never watched the salmon run myself....would like to do that with kids and wife too. Anyone?
  12. I think they are true to certain degree, but it also depends a lot more on where you fish and what you're after. If don't plan fishing trips around wind direction, luna phase, temperature ... etc --- I fish whenever I can.
  13. Ontario birth rate will get way up 10 months later.
  14. Good read as usual. I have found that carp action has picked up now the heat of the summer is behind. I have next week off and hope to hook up again for some fishing before the end of season.
  15. Guess I have to move back to Ottawa to continue my carp career. LOL Nice fish, CH.
  16. I really really hope whoever that CO is to come to my neck of woods for a week or two every year. That would save some nice fisheries from being destroyed but people fishing multiple rods and keeping everything (legal or not). No comment on the particular incident about your buddy. If he got charged because the fish was indeed out of the range then let's say he is unlucky. He reacted professionally though I have to say. For the group keeping 31 more than allowed..... penalty was too light for them in my book.
  17. I used to think I owned everything, then I grew up and realized I only owned very little. Until one day I got married, and my wife told me everything belongs to her. I trust my wife more than the government.
  18. I have done my fair share of fishing there too and have never seen one nor heard one caught there. Probably mistaken a LMB or a rock bass as a SMB?
  19. I could write a review as long as your report. but instead, I'll just sa -- two thumbs way up !!
  20. Well, they buffalo don't have wings because they are chopped off to be served... No, I don't think they are buffalo.
  21. After a bit more searching, this might also be a brown goldfish.... see this link for details.
  22. Photoz, I think we need to beat redx up to get the spot and keep that to ourselves....Just kidding ;-) Redx, this is the closest to crucian I have seen so far. By the description of how you fish and how you don't keep fish, we have much in common ;-) If there are tons of these supposedly Crusian, I do suggest you to contact MNR. Did they fight any differently?
  23. How big was it? I have heard talks about crucian beging caught but most of them then proved to be not crucisan. Was the fight different from the common carp?
  24. Sounds fun... thanks for sharing.
  25. In my opinion, eveyone took part in the event won the first place. Great report and thanks for sharing.
