  1. Nice...the classic tipup! I have to say though...I have lost more Whitefish than I have landed using spreaders...I don't know why...but I think the fish is able to use the weight and akward shape of the spreader wire to help free itself. I've seen them headshaking 10-15' below the hut while fighting them and they always seem to be able to to get free from the spreader...I know they wouldn't have the same luck with just a fine wire hook for example...no weight or leverage for the fish to shake free. I am going to experiment more with sliding sinker rigs and jigs this winter...
  2. Is there a way we can test out the information as it appears when we call 911 outbound on our voip lines? (Obviously without having to dial 911) Thanks for the insider information Verno! Tony
  3. You could always talk to Rogers to see if they offered email only accounts...or email forwarding service for a few months...Moght be cheap cheap...
  4. I would say get yourself a primary residence first. You qualify for first time home buyer and could use RRSP's for your down payment and then have up to 13years to repay them at no cost to you. Also think about the fact that the majority and better paying I.T. jobs are found in the GTA...Unless you are planning a career change to a trade that is location independant... That's the safe thinking me though... The devil on the other shoulder says screw it all and go for it! You're lucky to be able to save $ while living at home...it's the best thing to do for as long as you possibly can! Tony
  5. It's true I can accept defeat from the great lake... but only for now...I'll be back! I did catch a small Laker icefishing though and some Ling...just not what I was led to believe the fishing was going to be like when we went. I know there are lots of fish in the lake, and bigguns too! All in good fun! Tony
  6. Yay...we can keep Sundin, JFJ, and PM again...for now.
  7. You must have swung some kind of deal then...Bell.ca lists their pricing at $29.95 including 2 services. What they don't tell you is that the good features like Visual Call Waiting count as 2 services, the rate for long distance calls to Canada and the US is 25¢/min and if you would like unlimited long distance in North America that's an additional $20/month. LOL Sooo...compare that to VOIP and the savings are significant. Also, people mentioned about power outages...With Cogeco anyway you get 8 hour backup battery inside the modem for your phone only though, not Internet.
  8. Ditto...also with Cogeco.
  9. Yesterday, I actually was able to call my folks who are vacationing in St Marten and it was a local call?! The best part is like Rick mentioned...call waiting, caller id, call display, voicemail, etc are all INCLUDED in the monthly price, not $5.95 per service or whatever the heck Bell is soaking people for. With the cost of living increasing at a seemingly daily rate, it's nice to know there are alternatives to help put some money back in our pockets (who am I kidding?...more money for Tackle!)
  10. She can't call overseas though...oh wait for it..calling cards for $.03/minute solve that! VOIP all the way!!!

  12. Very nice...did you get it at the Boat Show?
  13. Dude!? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUPvFAjpsVE Haha...love that commercial...
  14. Talking Sportsmans Show last year... The boat package I am interested was quoted at almost $20 THOUSAND more than the quote I received on the exact same package a month later from a dealership in Hamilton. Yes...I'm still kind of scratching my head about that one...
  15. I agree it is frustrating being a Leafs fan and watching them lose game after game and trying to blame someone for all of it, players, management, coaches, etc... The reality is that it is above all else, a business. With that being said...look at what everyone is saying... "The "body" that is the Toronto Maple Leafs is diseased. It has only one focus, huge profits and returns on investment." "The teacher's pension fund doesn't care if they win or lose, they're making huge profits and they're selling lots of condos around the ACC." "75% of the ACC is corporate tickets!!! And if you are lucky enough to get a ticket, you are out a weeks pay (for most people). They were the ONLY team in the league not to lower ticket prices after the lockout!! Hell, they raised the prices!!! This is the end result of a company that is being dictated by a MONSTER PENSION PLAN that only sees number and not results!!!" If it were me at the top, I wouldn't change a single thing with this successful business model, so don't expect them to just to make the die-hard fans happy...sad, unfortunate, but an absolute reality.
  16. Ok, you guys are the cooks, I was going to look into the pre-cooked chicken breasts again.
  17. As always, I'll see what I can do for food donations I won't have an answer though until about 2 weeks from now...person is on vacation. Looking forward to it, hopefully the fish co-operate better this year, and that we don't need to fish out of boats Tony
  18. There are NO fish in Temagami
  19. That is frustrating indeed. It's a good idea to have sensor lights that will be triggered when someone approaches your vehicles/property and also to keep any valuables in the trunk or not in the car period. If there is nothing worthwhile for the thieves to see in a car, they usually won't attempt to break in, that includes aftermarket stereos, dashboard GPS units, portable dvd players, fishing gear, etc, etc Hopefully they catch these punks (sounds like kids) and have their parents pay for any damages and losses...
  20. Yikes! What a mess...if it freezes it is going to be much worse.
  21. It depends on the lure... If you are jigging spoons for example you would want to use a swivel. However, if you are using horizontal lures like the Jigging Rapala or a Chubby Darter, you will want to tie directly to the lure... I don't see any cases where you would need one for panfishing, unless you were using jigging spoons for jumbo perch... The swivel won't deter the fish, but it can negatively affect the action on some lures...especially the smaller/lighter ones. In some cases, it is better to tie directly to the split ring on some lighter spoons for example, and then place a barrel (2-way, in-line) swivel about 24 inches above the lure to help eliminate line twist. Good fishing! Tony
  22. I have been keeping my eye on this GPS as it is one of the best ones out there and this is certainly the best price I have seen. ...at $339 it's a steal! http://radioworld.ca/product_info.php?cPat...products_id=804 Cheers! Tony
  23. That's a shame, I am surprised that the extended best buy warranty doesn't cover you. Sounds like the fine print gotcha this time... I bought a Toshiba 42" Rear-projection TV for around that same price about 5 years ago and it is still going strong...but I can't hang it on the wall like you can with an LCD or Plasma... If you are going to buy another TV, do lots of research...I have heard that Phillips makes great Plasma TV's though...
  24. You gotta watch on those smaller cheap reels. Especially if you are relying on the anti-reverse mechanism. I have seen that be the first thing to go in very cold temps, and when the fish makes a run the reel handle spins backwards un-controllably out of your hand
  25. Computer crashes are the best lessons on backup strategy Most people don't do any sort of backups...the fishing pictures alone on my computer are priceless, back up your important stuff folks! Tony
