  1. 9+ FEET here in Ottawa so far this winter and counting with another 20 to 30 cm on Monday. 30cm=1 foot for our friends in the south who dont know the metric system . 1971 we had over 14 feet which is the most on record here I believe and 1977 there was I believe around 11 feet. It would be kinda cool if we got close to those amounts this winter. But in all honesty I need spring!
  2. Definitely a scam. Friends of ours almost got rooked on a similar scam involving a 24 ft trailor. They were going to put 3 grand down to hold it but at the last minute did some checking and found it to be a fraud scam.
  3. Lots of dumb mottos, also lots of dumb billboards. Not fishing but I would like to share these, in Toronto I saw 2 board across from eachother, One saying " Jesus saves! " and the other one saying " Loeb saves you more! ". And in Kentucky I believe, There is a billboard on the side of a hill saying " Tatoos.......Done while you wait. " How else do you get a tatoo done? Anyway I know its not fishing but pretty dumb and clever. I just remebered one more, driving up to Wasaga Beach there were two houses side by side right off the highway, one had " Jesus Lives " painted on its roof, and the house next door had " So does Elvis " . I love stupid and clever things.
  4. MMMMMMMMMMMMM STEAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for making me extremely hungry : : If I had the room I would be looking into this.
  5. It would be cool if you make a deep diver in the red counter strike model. There are similar lures out there but quality and price is always the bottom line and you look like you have a good thing going there.
  6. The water levels are very eratic right now too, all the dams have there doors open from what I have been told. Just hope there is enough ice for this years charity derby we are putting on. For those of you who are interested, I am again this year part of the organizing committe putting on a charity derby, it will be at Petrie Island on March 1. Hopefully everything comes together by then and it is as sucessful as last years. We raised over 4000 dollars for the cancer society last year. This year it is a different charity. Steve, do you think we are ever going to get out in your shack? I am getting really bored.
  7. Most of you have probably seen this before but I think it is still funny. Actual questions. Because Everyone In Canada Lives In An Igloo. Now that Vancouver has won the chance to host the 2010 Winter Olympics, these are some questions people from all over the world are asking. Believe it or not these questions about Canada were posted on an International Tourism Website. Obviously the answers are a joke; but the questions were really asked! Q:I have never seen it warm on Canadian TV, so how do the plants grow?( England ) A. We import all plants fully grown and then just sit around and watch them die. Q:Will I be able to see Polar Bears in the street? ( USA ) A: Depends on how much you've been drinking. Q:I want to walk from Vancouver to Toronto. Can I follow the railroad tracks? ( Sweden ) A: Sure, it's only Four thousand miles, take l ots of water. Q:Is it safe to run around in the bushes in Canada ? ( Sweden ) A: So it's true what they say about Swedes. Q: Are there any ATM's (cash machines) in Canada ? Can you send me a list of them in Toronto , Vancouver , Edmonton and Halifax ? (England) A: What, did your last slave die? Q:Can you give me some information about hippo racing in Canada ? (USA ) A: A-fri-ca is the big triangle-shaped continent south of Europe . Ca-na-da is that big country to your North...oh forget it. Sure, the hippo racing is every Tuesday night in Calgary. Come naked. Q:Which direction is North in Canada ? ( USA ) A: Face south and then turn 180 degrees. Contact us when you get here and we'll send the rest of the directions. Q: Can I bring cutlery into Canada ?( England ) A: Why? Just use your fingers like we do . Q: Can you send me the Vienna Boys' Choir schedule? ( USA ) A : Aus-t ri-a is that quaint little country bordering Ger-man-y, which is...oh forget it. Sure, the Vienna Boys Choir plays every Tuesday night in Vancouver and in Calgary, straight after the hippo races. Come naked. Q: Do you have perfume in Canada ? ( Germany ) A: No, WE don't stink. Q: I have developed a new product that is the fountain of youth. Where can I sell it in Canada ?( USA ) A: Anywhere significant numbers of Americans gather. Q: Can you tell me the regions in British Columbia where the female population is smaller than the male population? ( Italy ) A: Yes, gay nightclubs . Q: Do you celebrate Thanksgiving in Canada ? ( USA ) A: Only at Thanksgiving. Q: Are there supermarkets in Toronto and is milk available all year round?( Germany ) A: No, we are a peaceful civilization of Vegan hunter/gathers. Milk is illegal. Q: I have a question about a famous animal in Canada , but I forget its name. It's a kind of big horse with horns. ( USA ) A: It's called a Moose. They are tall and very violent, eating the brains of anyone walking close to them. You can scare them off by spraying yourself with human urine before you go out walking. Q: Will I be able to speak English most places I go? ( USA ) A: Yes, but you will have to learn it first. Please send this on to any Canadian (or others) who you think will enjoy it as much as I did. Wishing you and yours a politically correct Merry Christmas and/or Happy Chanukkah and/or Happy Kwanzaaand/or Happy Festivus and/or Merry Chrismakkah And I cant stand dry chicken and small talk. Sorry about putting this in the fishing section but I believe some humour is needed here.
  9. Well I really wanted to get out one more time and try to get another Quinte eye but I have decided that the weather is just to crappy to risk the drive down towing a trailer with a boat on it. So I am going to put the boat to bed until ice out and hopefully that wont be to long, unless of course we have a nice warm spell ( sorry ice guys ) and I can get out once more but I doubt it. Well I guess I will be trying to ice fish at some point. For those of you who do get down there this weekend be careful and good luck. Don
  10. MIKE I have a great teacher whom if I hadnt been able to communicate and go out with I would probably catch squat. If you ever get the chance to get out with Eye-Tracker you will not regret it. He will teach you a wealth of knowledge. Thanks Sheldon!
  11. Thanks Cliff, we have done well this year but it is because I have been learning tonnes of info and now know 100 times more than I did a year ago. I dont just go out and drop lures into the water, I head out and search and have learned how to spot the difference in feeding fish and fish that are just hanging out. One of the biggest reasons is the electronics I bought. We used to just head out and drop our lines and troll, not now. I dont waste time in water with little in the way of marks, I will search around until I can locate a school or at least frequent marks. So much to learn and keep learning. Then when you find em you have to figure out what they want if anything. We are planning to give er one more go this Sunday but if it is to dangerous to tow the boat from hear we wont bother.
  12. You do need to be prepared this time of year thats for sure. Bringing salt and sand or cat litter is a definite. And of course common sense but the pigs that are biting now are well worth it.
  13. Shawn I will be there this Sunday unless the conditions are beyond ridiculous. And yes it appears there are more fish in the Thompsons and Shermans area but you have to figure out what they want because there were others there and they were doing different things than we were and catching less. Experiment until something works thenstick with it for a while, then try something else. What we noticed was the people on the other side of the ferry were just running back and forth over the same water, when we went there we checked around and there were very few fish and the ones we marked were very deep. I hope this Sunday is ok but I am thinking this just may be the last kick at the can the way the forcast is looking. If it is I am pretty happy with this season.
  14. Well where to start? Eric and I had planned on meeting up with Bender and TroutMuskieHunter for 6am at the launch in Picton but things did not work out according to plan. We got to the storage area where I keep my boat and truck and had to dig them out which we expected. It was not that bad, then removing the ball lock and the pin lock was a different story, both had frozen. We ended up finally after about 45min of messing around headed to a gas station to get lock de-icer. It took a while but we finally got them off and headed out, time,6am. 3hrs after we started. As we head out the temp says -18 at one point, temp at Picton harbour -2 thankfully. Like Bender said the entrance to the harbour was iced. There was quite the line up to launch but we finally got out at around 9:30 . It was also snowing. We headed to Shermans and Thompsons, got set up and after about 45 mins or so, first fish on. Turned out to be a new PB for me and the biggest fish of the day at 13.3lbs, length just over 32 inches and a fat gut on her. Eric was next and turns out he caught the next 3 fish, first fish was his biggest at around 10lbs. After a while the wind got up and we decided to shoot over just the other side of the ferry to the south shore out of the wind to have a look around. There were about 10 boats there and it turns out they were just washing lures as we marked only a few fish and they were very deep. We even shot up to almost the light house and looked around in a zig zag across to each shore and marked very little. We then decided to head back and around the cement plant and still marked very little. It was decided we would head back to where we started and glad we did. We figure we lost about an hour and a half looking around but oh well thats how you learn. We set up and got the last four fish of the day in roughly in an hours time. If we had not left I figure we would have got several more. Eric did lose a big girl with about 60ft to go. So all in all a great day with 8 hook-ups and 7 in the boat. The last three fish would have made a nice snack by the way since they were little guys especially my last one. Hope the pics work and cant wait till this weekend if we can get out. Hope the pics work. Sorry it took a couple of days to get this report done Don
  15. Man I sucked, I couldnt even get passed the postal code question!
  16. So those of you who questioned me on my " so called Horrible experience there" in a few pms, now you understand why I would rather sleep in my truck than give these chumps a dime! I was questioned and even some suggested that maybe it was just me, because they had never had a problem. Well we were treated like crap last year and charged out the wazoo. The docks are deathtraps even in warm weather and the launch is garbage. Kevin the owner even gave my buddy grief and all kinds of attitude when he went up to ask where in town he could get some stuff! Then to top it all off I recieve my credit card statement and they charged me an extra 50 bucks which they refused to refund! This is why I stay in Belleville at the Ramada, which is cheaper by the way and only a 20min drive form the launch at Picton harbour. I was there this weekend, out with Eye-Tracker on Sat. and Roaming the bay with him on Sun. He in his boat and me in mine. I really think that this site will affect them negatively, hopefully that is. This is not the only group from a fishing site to have a crap time there and they have been slagged on the other sites as well. When you have the market cornered I guess you feel as though you are King and can just do as you want and treat people as you want. I will say this, as soon as someone finally comes along and opens up another resort, they will lose business and get what they deserve for all the years of poorly treating poeple. I know someone is going to come on here and post that they have never had any problems with them and for everyone to stop their whining but the numbers of people every year " DONT LIE ! " Wish I could have stopped by but I was staying in Nappanee and by the time we got off the water and went and had dinner, I was toast! Next time guys. Don
  17. Hey Dartee I am going to try and get to the Chandlery tomorrow if I can. I just hope if I buy a baseunit I can install it easily.
  18. Unfortunately LeBarons is completely sold out.
  19. Hopefully its not like the first weekend we were out with gusts over 70km. Either way we will be out there!
  20. The thing is I want to have something for this weekend. If I buy a base unit is it easy to hook up? So as I said in the origional post where can I get one at a decent price?
  21. Hey guys and gals I have a question, where can I get decent vhf (handheld) for a decent price? I just want a handheld for this year then I will get a base unit for next year. I want to have one for Quinte since I am down there every week and it would be nice to have one for many reasons. The main reason would be to contact others on the water that I know have them instead of using cell phones. I know you need a license too but I just want to get a radio for now. I live in the Ottawa area by the way. If anyone has one they want to sell let me know as I would be interested in that way too. Thanks Don
  22. I was told to look for arches and marks with colour in them the reds and yellows most likely are eyes or if not they are big fish. The swim bladders are what the signals reflect and eyes have a lareger swim bladder. I also was informed that the lines and slashes that are jsut black are just shad or whitefish but not eyes. I suppose they could be small eyes but the big ones show up with colour. Now if you dont have a colour finder I guess it would be harder to identify. Now I am not 100% sure but the person who explained this to me does know what he is doing and I trust what he taught me. Don
  23. Nice fish Shawn, man some real beauts! I planned on going tomorrow but I am waffling now becaue I may not have anyone to go with. I may go with my wife, not sure. Still not sure if I have anyone for next weekend either.
  24. I caught that one on a reef runner down around 30+ft. in 140ft of water and they are a fun catch one of the best fights I have had from a fish, very strong.
  25. I just bought a new Helly Hanson one piece but have not used it yet. I figure I will give it a go if it is cold this Sunday. I did have a two piece but found that the jacket rode up into my face everytime I would sit down. It was convenient when I got warm though, just to take the jacket off but I wanted the full suit because I am going to be on the water in Quinte almost every week until ice up and want to be safe. If you are planning on being out in your boat for the fall, I dont see why you cant wear those if you have life jackets. Especially for that price, why not? Save yourself some cash.
