  1. Jaques yes we spend alot of time on the water and cover alot of it but we dont head out blind, we are privialdged to have some info provided to us and then we head out and just like I said cover alot of water and hope we can get on some fish and find what is working that day. Believe me if we didnt we would be just out there fishing blind. If people want to learn they should charter Eye-Tracker for a day and you will learn a tonne of things. He really knows his stuff.
  2. I only weighed one and it was 9lbs, the last smallie was 4.7oz. I figure the other eye was around the 8lb mark. The one in the first couple of pics was around 7lbs. They are only going to weigh more from here on in. Should start to see some 10+ fish soon! Cant wait.
  3. Yea Shawn we have caught some nice fish the past few weeks but we are also privileged to have some very knowledgeable contacts to point us in the right direction and in turn when we head out if we get on the fish we return the info to them. We most likely will be at Quinte this weekend so if you make it down give us a shout on the vhf.
  4. The last two Sat. Eric and I have headed down to basically search for the Big eyes. We definitely have found them moving in, along with some very large, smallmouths. Last Sat was very rough out there but we stuck it out and had fun and caught some fish. I am just going to post a few pics from that day. Here are some from this Sat. Cant wait till this weekend and the next and the next and the next and........ It only gets better from here!
  5. Having caught many double didgit eyes myself and been with several other seasoned Quinte hog hunters , I have never seen or had one break off or lost a crank using 10lb to 12lb line. I have however had to replace several hooks from them being bent out of shape though. You just have to have the drag set properly. Not to loose but just enough so the fish can peel some drag if she decides to run and contrary to popular belief they do run or just decide to stay where they are and you cant move them. I was of the same thinking as HH when I first started fishing Quinte but quickly realized you dont need thick braid. Each to his own, braid is fine but make sure you have a long flouro lead attatched and make sure your drag is fairly loose because it does not stretch and will just rip the hooks out of the fishes mouth if there is no give.
  6. I agree with Sheldon, the P-line is really excellent line and you dont need a flourocarbon leader. After being out with him and using his equiptment I noticed a huge difference so I have now switched all my trolling reels to P-line. I have not had one break off this year and have landed some very nice fish including two skis , one over 40" and so far this year me and my fishing partner have landed several big eyes over 8# with relative ease.
  7. Apparently I have the dates wrong when we are staying there. Its Fri.24th and Sat. 25th.
  8. Sorry Steve I have no concept of time or dates at the moment with being off work. I guess I better check with Andy and make sure that the motel is booked for the Friday and Sat. nights. I am hoping to get down there as much as possible.
  9. Thats my favorite type of fish porn and hopefully there are many many more to come.
  10. Come on Steve, you dont need all that top stuff! The girls ok but you dont need a full enclosure. Besides it acts like a giant sail and makes trolling more difficult. You can come down with Eric and I, we are looking for a third person to join us this year when we go. And after this past Sat. I cant wait to get out this weekend and the next and the next........ . Another couple of weeks and they should be in far enough for most people to be able to reach. Also I see you are joining us for Friday and Saturday the 25th and 26th of Oct. Hopefully this time you will get a big eye instead of a big pike!
  11. Just to let you know, a group of us are going down Fri. the 25th of Oct and the 26th. Not sure what the name of the place we are staying is yet. I have a VHF in my boat now, usually on ch.69 unless arranged ahead of time.
  12. Sorry I am not allowed to give that info out under penalty of death! . I promised I would not reveal it. I will say its somewhere on LAKE O!
  13. Leechman, that smallie was airborn at least 5 times. At first we didnt know what it was. I am not a bass guy but it was a blast reeling that in. It took a while to find the big eyes and a pattern to find out what they wanted but when we did it was worth the time. Cant wait for the next outing!
  14. Its been a long time coming but this Sat. we ventured out and found the Pigs! Went out yesterday with Eric (Clown Worship). We met up with Terry and Andy and their buddies and headed out around 7ish am. We all split off in different directions to cover water. The water we were fishing is a large area to search. Eric and I started trolling and trolling and trolling, finally Eric get a fish on. It is fighting hard and I say " I think its a sheepie" and I was right. But hey its a fish! Here is a pic At around 12:30 Eye Tracker called me and we headed in to pick him up. As soon as he boarded he pointed us in the direction that would prove to be Hog Land. We set up a six board spread and covered alot of water before the first pig struck. I am up first, I could tell she was an eye. Finally we get her on board and I have my first Hog of the this fall season and we have found the big girls! Here is the pic Within five minutes after putting her back Eric is onto a fish. He gets her in and has his first of the season. After another 10 min or so Sheldon gets a nice one on but unfortunately she T-boned the lure and at about 50 feet from the boat it just opened her mouth and let go. It was weird becaue we could see the lure sideways in its mouth , also all but one of the fish headed to the surface right away which is why we lost 4. It is really important to keep them below so they have a harder time shaking the hook loose. After a while my rod goes off again and I am fighting another nice eye, after a nice net job I have my second of the day. A while after this one Eric gets another one on. Then there was a bit of a lull and finally Sheldon gets another one on, unfortunately this one did the same as the last one at almost the same point. Man Eric and I felt bad for him. My next fish was a bit of a surprise, we werent sure exactly what it was. This fish was jumping all over the place. Finally we get her in and she is my biggest smallie of the year. What a football! Pics dont do it justice. Close to 5lbs I am sure! It is starting to get late and Sheldon still hasnt got one in. He says looks like the bite has stopped. I said we we had a lull before so why dont we try a bit longer. Good thing we did as he finally pulled in the Hog of the day. This fish fought him the whole way and bulldogged to the bottom at least 6 or 7 times. It took a while but finally she is in the boat and Sheldon is all smiles with this 10lb3oz long Pig!. It was a priveledge and a pleasure to have Sheldon out on my boat with no preassure to produce fish for clients and to actually be able to enjoy himself fishing and to be able to just goof around. We both really enjoyed your company Sheldon and cant wait to get out with you again. And I havent forgot about the birthday offer of a net! Cant wait to get out next weekend. IT HAS BEGUN BABY!!!!!!!!!
  15. I have owned a Lund, a Legend (never again) and now my Alumacraft and I am so impressed with it my next boat will be Alumacraft. I have 16,7 full windshield and have had it in big water in very rough weather and it is very sturdy. My next one will be a bit bigger with more Horses. My current boat has a 75 mer. optimax and it is a great motor, always starts of the first crank and I get good gas mileage. If you want more info send me a message , I live in Ottawa as well. Don
  16. I bought my Alumacraft from Hurst Marina 3 years ago. Unfortunately I believe they got out of fishing boats all together. I really dont know where there is a dealer anymore. I thought there was one near Toronto but not sure. I saw Alumacraft boats in Wasaga beach at a dealer there. Try a search on the internet. I will say this, Alumacraft has to be the best boat I have owned and is a really solid well built boat. Mine handles really well and is very stable. It is 7.6 feet wide and this is why it is so stable, it handles rough water well too as it got a really good test last year on Quinte with 50 plus KM winds and big waves. Hope you find one, you wont regret the purchase. You may also see if there are dealers in New York state.
  17. Got 3 tickets, we were 2nd in line and the box office opened we wanted 100s and they were almost gone 2 min after they opened. We managed 3 in the 130 level as well I believe. When we got home we checked online and everthing was gone and people were selling tickets from 350 to 1000 dollars per ticket for the same ones we got. Man it should be a cool show, never been to Skydome for anything. I believe there will be a second show here in Ottawa but I dont think it will be till next summer since they want to do a stadium and well we blew ours up! The talk is they will do it at the raceway. Hope so cause I will go to that as well. Now all I need is to see Metallica, which will come this way next year hopefully.
  18. I really hope people are a bit wiser this time round. My mother lost everything in Katrina including the town she lived in, Pass Christien Mississippi. 80% of the homes and 100% of the businesses were destroyed. The local city oficials are still working out of trailors 3 years after the fact. You really only ever hear about New Orleans but in reality it did not get hit with the worst of Katrina. The reason for what happend in New Orleans was the scouring of the levees which were and still are only rated to a Cat3. The towns to the east of New Orleans were harder hit, i fact the eye came ashore in Bay St. Louis/ Passs Christien with a 33 ft storm surge and 145mph winds virtually wiping out everything in its path. In Pass Christien there was a Pole in the harbour that showed storm surge heights from past storms withCamille being the measuring stone at 21ft, well Katrina blew her away. I was there less than a week after and I will never forget what I saw, you could not even tell what street you were on, it was heart wrenching. People were living in tents and under tarps on what was there property and alot still are today 3yrs after. I went back last year and the town is still mostly in ruin and also went into New Orleans, when approaching the city it was so erie, picture driving into a major city with all the suburbs surrounding it and seeing that no one lives in any of the thousands of homes and the streets are empty and stores and malls are all boarded up. It certainly makes you feel really alone and gives you a scope at what happend and what most likely will happen again. They should have just left the areas flooded and reclaimed by mother nature the way it was intended, people have not come back to those areas anyway and most likely wont. And on the origional topic, if I was staying in New Orleans I would definitely buy protection as well, especilly after Katrina.
  19. I agree, buying a Legend was the worst boat buying experience I have ever had. I bought one and it started to fall apart right off the bat. I agree the hull was fine but everything in it was garbage. I have heard alot of bad things about them from others with similar issues. Now this being said, my Legend was a v151-all-sport. I have heard the X-edition legends are better. The saying" you get what you pay for" does come into place here. Legend did not respond to me or the dealer about the problems until I sent them an e-mail telling them I returned the boat and bought an Alumacraft and soon after the dealer dumped the line citing to many problems and not enough response from Legend. I know there are many happy legend owners and this is just my personal experience with them. One more thing, if the boat is purchased definitely upgrade the motor. Mine was a 40h but not enough to get it to plane nicely. Hope this helps.
  20. Ya joey it tore up the lure really good, just twistd the crap out of the hooks and as you can see completely ripped the other one out and the worse thing is I just took it out of the package. Good thing I have way way too much tackle and alot of those types of lures. HELP ME I AM A JUNKIE I CANT STOP BUYING LURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have also gone through 4 blue and white origional rapals this season so far, 90% of my fish have been caught on that lure. I call it OLD FAITHFUL.
  21. Believe it or not Johnny I was trolling in 18ft of water about 25yrds off shore, no planer, or riggers just about 120ft back at roughly 2mph. Because it was in shallow water I thought for a moment I had a ski on or a big pike but in the back of my mind I knew it was a sheepie. The one last fall was in 60ft of water on a planer using a manns +20.
  22. No we used a variety of cranks, and that sheephead is not even close to the one I caught last fall, here is a pic of that one. What a fight that one was. By the way I am 220lbs just to give you an idea of the size
  23. Decided to go to Quinte Sunday for a a change of scenery. It was a really nice day down there and different being there when it is warm and not wrapped head to toe in a survival suit. We ended up catching a niced variety of fish, here are some pics. Plenty of these And these I got a huge hit and a wicked fight and up came this guy Also caught what I think was a white or striped bass and lots of perch. Here is a pic of what remains of my brand new reef runner rip-n-stick Not as big as the monster sheepie I got last fall but one heck of a fight to say the least.
