The boat was found late Thursday night near Crates Marina. Police are still trying to find out who the boat belongs too. The boat was hauled away Friday afternoon.
  2. Looks a bit like something Bernie would drive. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/archeologists-discover-labrador-s-1st-snowmobile-1.2747667?cmp=rss A team of archeologists in Nunatsiavut say they've found Labrador's first snowmobile — and there are plans in the works to get it back up and running. The snowmobile is a nearly 100-year-old Ford Model T that was converted to ride through snow on skis. Chicago scientists used the makeshift snowmobile during an expedition to Labrador, and it was later abandoned in 1928. "It's an amazing piece of Labrador history," said Jamie Brake, an archeologist in Nunatsiavut, on the north coast of Labrador. Brake said the site and the snowmobile were vulnerable. Archeologist Jamie Brake said they brought the snowmobile to Nain to preserve it and to get residents excited about their history. (CBC) "We know that quite a number of pieces of it had gone missing over the years," he said. "We felt it was important to bring it to Nain, so it could be protected and used to give people a chance to learn about their history and to get people excited about their past." Brake's team used modern snowmobiles to tow it to Nain, also on Labrador's north coast. Restoring a piece of historyNow, the snowmobile is on display. "It's the first time I've seen something that old... almost 100 years old," said Nain resident Elizabeth Kohlmeister. The machine is in great shape for its old age — it still has its original engine and transmission. "[it's] got a crank on the front of it that you would turn to get the engine started," Brake said. Archeologist Jamie Brake said they took the Ford Model T snowmobile to Nain to preserve and restore it. (CBC) The plan now is to get the makeshift snowmobile restored, and in a couple of years, it could be driving around town. "This is absolutely restorable and we can — it's totally in the realm of possibility to get this thing running again," Brake said. "I think people would be pretty excited about their history and heritage if they were seeing this, the original snowmobile, in Labrador, driving around." Susan Kaplan, an anthropology professor with Bowdoin College, said it's an exciting find. "It's going to have a new life, new meaning," she said. "It's bringing it into the 21st century where it still has a life."
  3. I wonder about a joy ride.
  4. My wife had walking pneumonia last week. Hoping that's not what I've got, but on the bright side I might get out of a wedding this weekend.
  5. Hey Brian the local news did a piece on them tonight.
  6. Maritime salvage rules apply?
  7. Click on the lick to see the boat.... On the rock(s). http://www.nugget.ca/2014/08/26/something-doesnt-belong Shannon Unger was enjoying a bonfire Sunday night with a couple of friends at her Lake Nipissing home when she heard a boat speeding past her home. Hearing the sounds of motors zipping by is part of life when you live on the lake. But this was a little different. “It was dark, around 9 p.m., and we heard this boat pass by our shore and my husband commented that it seemed pretty close to one of the islands out front,” Unger told The Nugget Tuesday. “Less than 30 seconds after he commented we heard a massive noise. Scraping and smashing,” she said. “We all stopped. We looked at each other and said 'holy crap. Something awful has happened.'” Unger said at that point her husband and family friend jumped on the wave runner in the dark to try and find the boat in the water and assist those on board should they need help. “We couldn't find anything,” she said. “But it didn't occur to us or to anyone to look up at the islands. Who would have thought it was up on an island.” Unger said the next day they went back out and saw the boat teetering on an island on Lake Nipissing just off the shores around Rocky Shore Drive on the southshore. As of Tuesday afternoon the boat was still up on the rocks.
  8. Hottest day of the summer and I'm covered in blankets with some kind of bug. Can't wait for fall.

  9. A trip in a small plane is always worth a sore neck.
  10. So I can have 2 legal lifejackets stowed on the boat and wear nothing which is perfectly legal. But if I have the same 2 lifejackets stowed and I'm wearing another that has a tear that gets me a ticket?
  11. On the face of it, it sure sounds like they are giving tickets and not expecting someone to come back and fight it. In the first case if either of the other 2 lifejackets were "legal"then the ticket is completely bogus. In the second case I guess the ticket is technically legit but without a scale how does the officer know that the kids is 48lb instead of 50? It's one thing if people are legitimately putting themselves or others in danger, or are egregiously contrary to the law, but this sure sounds like someone emptying a ticket book.
  12. I'm not sure about the other teams out west but the Jets also have a deal with TSN.
  13. They still have NHL games.
  14. Today at 10:30am TSN will have 5 channels up and running. For Bell they will be 1400, 1401, 1402, 1403 and 1404. Who wouldn't want 4 channels all showing the same tennis match? http://www.bellmediapr.ca/Network/TSN/Press/TSNs-Five-National-Feeds-Launch-Today-Giving-Fans-More-Sports-More-Choice-and-MoreTSN-Than-Ever-Before
  15. That's the first thing I thought when I saw the video of the Doc. It seems to sit higher then the zara.
  16. I have a few of the huge zaras but I like the look of yours as well. May have to get a few. You have a favourite colour?
  17. Have you used the musky sized Zara's Lew? I'm wondering how they compare to the ones in your post.
  18. I find that 4 months of winter works great at getting bug guts off the vehicles.
  19. That's a solid bass anywhere, but for the northern limit of their range that's real trophy.
  20. Good point on the audio books. I don't have much of a commute but I do listen to lots of podcasts on long trips. Quirks and Quarks is one of my favourites as well as The Vinyl Cafe and some comedy shows.
  21. Figured something must have been up when the last thing anyone had commented on was a fish caught by T.J.
  22. She does take the GO as much as possible. Her office is a short walk up from Union. She drives if she has late meetings and can't make the last train or has meetings at Amex in Markham.
  23. The ties that bind. That moose antler photo is great... and if that's a standard door I'm never going to disagree with anything you ever say.... and how did they fit you in the plane?
  24. Saw that. I love grouper.
  25. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Hard to say what is right for you. The same people who think my wife is nuts for commuting from Barrie to downtown Toronto spend almost the same time as her getting to/from work. The difference for us is that downtown T.O. money spends better up here then in the GTA house/land wise. If her job existed up her she'd switch in a heartbeat for 10% less money. Twenty percent less would likely still be worth it since we have young kids.
