  1. I don't. Don't think he does. We pay enough attention to know who did "better" on a particular day but we also try to use 2 different tactics at the same time.
  2. Thanks Lew. There was some weeds but I'm not the best one to give perspective because I haven't been there in early July for about 20 years. There were spots that had weeds that were to the surface in six feet of water.
  3. Congratulations. A second job, or a lottery win, comes in handy.
  4. Picked up this cicada at the friends and family pre-opening because I knew the mayfly hatch was on Nipissing.
  5. We usually hit the walleye in early June and do well. This year that never worked out but we were able to squeeze in a couple of nights and 1 full day of fishing. I can't remember the last time I was on Nipissing when musky and bass season's were open. The adventure starts. Always a tough walleye bite when this happens: That's the remnants of the mayfly hatch. Both the bass and the walleye were stuffed full of them. Still had some topwater action. My biggest bass in a long time was while I was solo and no camera. Nice 21 inch smallmouth on a zara just before dark. Funny, with all the fishing we do together all of my biggest fish the last 2 years have all been while fishing by myself. Thinking he's bad luck. Because of the mayflies my brother went with a crayfish crankbait. Caught one eye casting in five feet of water. And he caught this one drifting with the same crank behind a bottom walker in 20 feet. Drifting a small jointed rapala behind the bottom walker. I used the slowdeath hook and a gulp worm behind the bottom walker and caught a few small eyes with it. Casting a x-rap in a new spot. Casting a cicada (newly purchased at Cabelas because I knew the mayflies were hatching) on a shoal. Remember, wear sunscreen. Many fishermen spend all their lives without realising it's not fish they are after. Until the next time...
  6. Beauty. Were you fishing in the dark? Or did the flash just make it look that late?
  7. Looks like the whole town showed up. Glad I had a chance to go yesterday. Lake Nipissing tonight.
  8. All better then kissin' cousins.
  9. Thanks for having me. Was I your older, or younger brother?
  10. I like it. It's five minutes from work and less then 15 minutes from my house. BPS and Sail will have to have screaming deals for me to drive 1.5-2 hours round trip (No traffic) now.
  11. Thanks Brian.

      Nice. Safe trip.

  12. And I never use bait. Different strokes.
  13. No doubt the bait ball will catch fish but there is a bit of a flaw with the theory. Fish school for protection and safety in numbers. It is the lone fish that can't keep up and is isolated that gets eaten.
  14. To "hide" braided line from fish and/or prevent losing a lure to pike that tend to be in similar areas/waters.
  15. Well I guess I'll go do something else. No rooting interest. No money wagered. Just wanted a competitive match.
  16. Lot of debate whether they work better then many other options. They are heavy and the rod required makes the fights less fun.
  17. I'm looking for a boat launch (and maybe a slip) close to my uncle's place. I have used Waltonian Inn before to launch but an email and two calls about a slip have gone unanswered. Hunter's Bay marina is the next closest option that I'm aware of but I figured I'd check here if anyone knew of a closer one to Greening's Bay, which is 2 bays west of where Waltonian is. Greening's Bay cottages does not allow use of their ramp and has no slips available.
  18. Heavy flouro works but i've also used TUF-line TUF leader. It's a wire line that you can tie yourself using conventional knots. It worked well.
  19. I rarely make mine with two blades, but lots do and never have issues. Just use enough beads to keep the blades far enough apart.
  20. It's been great and well used.
  21. Tough to say no when your son says he wants you to take him fishing and then go swimming. Had a lot of fish on the topwaters, some even made it in the boat. We fished near lilly pads so that Ryan could catch some panfish. The slop frogs worked better then the zaras because of the thicker weeds, but they were all small bass. Then, there it was. The perfect spot. A tree over hanging the water. Another in the water. Lilly pads everywhere, but there is a hole in the lilly pads beside a big old stump. I zing a cast right for "the hole"... and miss by almost 10 feet. The "big bass" didn't care. The one pound bass made a 5lb hole in the water. And that swim? Uncle and dad went, Ryan changed his mind.
  22. Three boys in the boat Sunday morning, my son will be joining us.
  23. I don't know how new his are? The one he uses the most is "newer" (the one in these photos) and is a super spook I think but it might be 5 years old. As far as I know he's never had one take on water. He has caught a lot of pike on it as well.
  24. Jim is the same way.
  25. I would see it as a negligible difference in fuel consumption but the ride/handling would be different (maybe dangerous) if the tongue weight isn't right.
