  1. With the weather the last few weeks it is quite likely that the ice is starting off very nice (always check for yourself) and relatively safe for foot travel and a permeant hut on the smaller lakes. However, given the type of weather we've had in the last 20 years (huge temp swings and green Christmases) in central Ontario I would be hesitant to put out and a permanent hut at this point.
  2. Ya my black lab was the same. Man I miss that dog.
  3. Now we do the same thing, 'cept it's fer soft plastics.
  4. Super mail boxes have been around for a long time. I live in a city and haven't had mail to my door for over 12 years.
  5. They know you're an easy mark.
  6. We drove to North Bay on Saturday for my wife's grandfather's 90th birthday. The drive north was a little greasy in spots and some guy beside me got his backend squirrely, I kept waiting for him to slow down (foot off the gas peddle but not on the break) as he tried to regain control but he never slowed down, even once he almost had it back under control and he ended up spinning out and going off the road. When I learned to drive you couldn't shop on Sundays and the mall parking lots were a great place to learn how to handle a car in snow.
  7. If everyone did what they were supposed to almost no one would fall through the ice. Sadly, we all know too well, this is not the case. An interview with someone out on the ice might have provided some balance. As the norm with most news the "story" was already decided and they just wanted some sound bits for it. And if they weren't going to interview someone out on the ice they could have mention/demonstrated how to check the ice as you go out.
  8. Ya the all pink/only pink for girls is crap, but they put out what people buy.

  10. Harper government shuts down 'world class' collection on freshwater science and protection. By Andrew Nikiforuk, 9 Dec 2013, TheTyee.ca The Harper government has dismantled one of the world's top aquatic and fishery libraries as part of its agenda to reduce government as well as limit the role of environmental science in policy decision-making. Last week the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, which is closing five of its seven libraries, allowed scientists, consultants and members of the public to scavenge through what remained of Eric Marshall Library belonging to the Freshwater Institute at the University of Manitoba. One woman showed up to pick up Christmas gifts for a son interested in environmental science. Other material went into dumpsters. Consultants walked home with piles of "grey material" such as 30-year-old reports on Arctic gas drilling. 11. I particularly like the news hits where the talking head stands next to the highway and tells us to be safe. Someone reaching for a stick of gum is going to mow them down and then "some" will say: "How did that happen?"
  12. With a straight face the gasoline companies will tell you that competition drives prices up.
  13. Thank you Lew.
  14. And they put up 54 points in 6 inches of snow.
  15. Turn your tv to Fox for the Detroit Lions v Philadelphia Eagles game right now. I'd hate to watch games like this every week but as a once a season thing, it's great.
  16. I was visiting in New Brunswick one winter and it took me a couple of cars to figure out what the sound was as they were going by. Never been in a car with them.
  17. I would think it would be… as long as you don't crush your self on a narrow outcropping and then proceed to scrape your way down a thousand metres of cliff face to then bang your face off of your own knee once you finally hit the ground.
  18. One hairy nut.
  19. I just used a hinge and another piece of wood. So more of a upside down L.
  20. Should do the job. I've done similar and eventually got rid of the foam because it got in the way and didn't help.
  21. Cliff jump does not go as planned:
  22. Someone try this and tells us about it: http://newsfeed.time.com/2013/12/05/ron-burgundy-scotchy-scotch-scotch-is-finally-here/
  23. Will do.
