  1. Saw that on the news last night Wayne, pretty scary stuff. Those ambulances fly directly over my house several times a day heading for the downtown Toronto hospitals and they've got a sound that's so distinctive, I know who it is long before I see them. It's a good feeling knowing that those guys are there to help us when were injured on a remote hiway or way off the beaten path somewhere and inaccessible by road. They do an incredible job helping the injured and it's sad to see them being injured themselves. Hopefully it all turns out good for them.
  2. You country folks should stop worrying about winter and just do what we do here in Toronto everytime it snows, and call in the Army. We had a big storm last week with a foot of snow and it was a real mess for awhile, but we put out the call for help seeing as we have no snowplows here in Toronto and the soldiers came & took it all away for us and now its just like summer here. The grass is green, there's buds on the trees, the flowers are popping up and I even had 3 robins in the back yard feeding on worms an hour ago. And you guys thought us city folks were dumb
  3. It's always so sad to read these reports about a couple buds out enjoying themselves for an evening and then it turns to tragedy. Like many on this board, I've travelled a gazillion miles by snowmobile at night over quite a few years and even though we were always careful.....well usually anyways......we ALWAYS avoided crossing lakes in the dark even when we were familiar with them. Condolances to the families and hopefully the news will be better for the 3rd rider.
  4. I just heard the same thing a few minutes ago on the weather network Tom. He was saying the whiteouts up in your area could be as bad today as the ones a couple weeks back that caused all those terrible accidents. Sounds like a good day to avoid the 400
  5. JP's a good guy to learn from Ben, he's written some excellent articles, specially in EA
  6. Welcome to OFC BenBeattie, not that you ever left or anything, but figured we'd better make it official Best of luck with your writing Ben, you gonna be writing about your guiding experiences ??
  7. I'm not into ice fishing Steve, but I DID watch your TV show this morning with Charlie Wray. You boyz put very nice pickeral in the boat !!
  8. I built a pair of extension arms for my mitre saw today Wayne, but their not near as snazzy as your new ski's & Jed Tent.
  9. There are exceptions to every rule Jed, and there will always be a spot in my boat for Shania, even if I have to toss Crazyhook out
  10. Guess I've always been lucky and have never had to replace a transducer, either front or back, but if the time ever came that I needed to purchase one and a company like your looking at was able to offer a compatible unit at a good price, I'm sure I would give some serious thought. Good luck on your endeavor if you decide to give it a go.
  11. Peter, if your gonna have the cha-ching later in the year for the boat you WANT, then why not wait and do it. Nuthin worse than buying something you don't really want. Beside that, I'm thinking a 16.5 boat with a 40 HP is waaaaaaay underpowered. My Crestliner is 16' with a 90 and that's what it's rated for. Just my thoughts bud
  12. Absolutely Rich and I couldn't agree with you more. When there's a big storm brewing and will be hitting your area in the very near future you can be sure the fish will be turning on and that's the time to be in the best locations. It's not always the best time to be on the water, but we've put so many big fish in the boat just before the storm hits it's unbelievable, and I mean RIGHT before, when the sky is black, the lightning is flashing and you can actually see the approaching wall of rain almost on top of you. A perfect example was late last summer and Squid and I were casting for muskies and they'd been forecasting a big storm for the afternoon. We could see it approaching in the distance and could see & hear the lightening, so I moved the boat into a favorite spot and as the wall of water was only 1000' away I told Pete to get ready, and in about 2 more casts he nailed a big musky.....PERFECT !! When the pressure is dropping very fast it's the time to be on the water, and in my own opinon it's possibly the best time, at least it works for me.
  13. Lotsa great ideas Cliff, and this one was already scheduled
  14. Well, I'm now officially a bachelor for the next 7 days. I dropped Diane off at the airport at 3:30 this morning and was home again by 4 hmmmmmm, now what the heck am I gonna do for a week ??
  15. Quinte was really getting bad with them a few years ago and a show I saw on TV estimated there were approximately 15,000 birds in the Bay area, each eating 2 pounds of fish per day. This isn't a good picture, but I took it several years ago in an area we fish close to the Glenora Ferry and you can see some birds, but there was probably at least 100 of them sitting in the trees. Those trees were totally void of leaves and were covered in excrement, plus the ground below actually looked like it was covered in snow aand the stench was enough to make you sick. It actually smells like rotting fish. Anyways, we went back the year after the big cull and there weren't nearly as many birds around, but the strangest thing was the condition of those trees. They were in full bloom and looked totally healthy, whereas the year before they appeared to be dead along with all other vegetation in the area. I don't know what the answer is, but it seemed once the birds stopped crapping all over them and left, the trees became healthy again and appear to be thriving
  16. Starting to see more & more of them in the Kawarthas now too.
  17. That's what I was thinking too Wayne With all your PB's lately Joey, your gonna be aiming for the sky
  18. Shelley, the loooooong range forecast for 2 weeks from now is calling for some pretty cold temps with highs about -15 even down here, so hopefully you'll get some decent ice then, if not before. And we all know the wetherman is NEVER wrong.......
  19. Thanks John, that's a good idea !!
  20. As I said Cliff, their leaving me here to shovel snow & ice while they bask in the sun.....they can carry their own darned bags
  21. Hey Jamie, lookin forward to getting in a few more stories with you again this summer. Don't forget yer Suicks
  22. Thanks for the help, that's what I was hoping to hear
  23. Hey guys, my Mrs. is leaving me to shovel the ice & snow for a week while her and her girlfriend jet off to the sunny Carribean tomorrow. They have to be at terminal 3 at 3:00 AM tomorrow morning and I'm just planning on dropping them off and coming right back home. At one time, before 911 you could just stop in front of the terminal and unload passengers & baggage on the sidewalk, but I'm wondering if you can still do that now with all the security around the place, or do we have to go into the payed parking area where they charge about $100 / minute. I haven't been to the airport in 20 years so I'm totally unfamiliar with the current procedure. Any thoughts ??
  24. There ya go Wayne, that's what it all about right there
