You've done a great job of customizing the pontoon Urban, it's always good to see a plan come together and now your finally getting some fish in it too. Great stuff

We've had a couple tornadoes hit around our trailer park over the years Paul, infact I just missed one by about 15 minutes one time. Right after I went thru a small town....Cavan near Peterboro....a tornado touched down and destroyed a stone house that totally disappeared, then ripped the brick steeple off the church across the road. Scary suff, but everyone got outta that one safely.

I'd stick with the C3 & go with the 6501 too. It's a very dependable reel but basic and no frills around the edges but will serve you well. Sorta like an old Chevy with no power steering.

I agree with tinbanger on this one, they're a good investment even if you think you may not need one and it sure won't hurt anything to have it. One big bump in the road and your motor takes a bounce, it could cost you far more than the $50 it'll cost you for the bar. It's probably one of the cheapest pieces of equipment I have on my boat.

I've been using grey H2Optics for a few years now and like the color, but the amber is nice on dull rainy days.

Wendel, the "official" thread will go up in about a month or so, but basically the g2g is the weekend of June 20-22 and there's usually quite a crowd of us there, with some coming the entire week before and others staying well into the 2nd week. We have a pike derby followed by a fish fry on the Saturday and that's worth the price of admission by itself. Everyone donates a prize to the table and that way everybody also receives one, with incredible prizes & a trophy going to the biggest fish. Last year a bunch of us got together on the Friday, caught a bunch of pike then headed to one of the islands for about the best shore lunch I've had in many years........see my pics at the top of this post. I do alot of fishing well after dark and it's sometimes awkward getting the boat back on the trailer in the pitch black, or even getting the trailer backed in straight when you can't see the ramp, specially when I'm fishing alone. I've been looking around for some sort of portable light to attach to the roof of my truck to illuminate the ramp and surrounding area while I'm backing up the trailer and found this one in CTC this morning for $40 and it looks like it'll be perfect for the job. It's about 8" wide, has a strong magnet to hold it to the roof, 20' of cord to reach the lighter socket and is extremely bright. Could also be handy around a dark campsite too. Just thought some may be interested in it for the same reason as me. I have a lighter socket in back of my truck which makes it very easy.

My Dad served 5 years in the Navy during the war and when he died, I bought a White Ensign (Navy flag) and draped it over his coffin. I then took the flag to my trailer and flew it from my flag pole for several years till it began to fade, then removed it and keep it here at the house now. My Dad was very proud of his war service (deservedly) and I know for a fact that would have made him very happy.

Thanks for the reminder Wayne, I just realized I haven't booked my usual campsite yet. Sheeesh, I may end up sleeping in my boat for a week......sure hope my tent fits in it

That's exactly why I've changed my plans for this year Wayne. I always go up the Monday before the g2g and spend the whole week, but this year I'm not going up until the Thursday and will stay till the following Wed or Thursday.

I don't fish for trout but I would assume they're like many other species and Danbo appears to have given you an excellent answer. Also, if you see them coming to the surface or jumping outta the water, I think it would be safe to assume they're feeding on something at that level and I'd try to land a surface bait or fly in the area you see them. Try & figure what it is they're feeding on and if you can "match the hatch" you could be in for a good day Just a thought from a non-trout guy and if nothing else, my answer will bump post this back to the top for you.

It'd be even neater if you told your grand kids that you caught the biggest musky in the world, then let it go to become even bigger, and explained to them that it's not always necessary to kill things just because you have the power to do so. Course that's only my opinion............

Some great pics there Ben. I walk my pooch at Ashbridges alot in the early mornings and also see alot of beavers there too, and just yesterday I was about as close to one as you have in your pictures. I was only about 10' from him and he was sitting perfectly still, I spose thinking I couldn't see him. They've become a real nuisance there though with all the trees they've killed over the last few years. So bad infact that the city has wrapped the trees with heavy wire screen to keep the beavers away from them. Still facinating critters to watch though.

95% of my pickeral fishing is trolling after dark and if I'm using body baits I attach them with a small snap and if I'm using spinners or harnesses I'll go with a small snap & swivel. The snap just makes life much easier when it comes time to change baits in the dark. I've used that method quite successfully for decades and have never found it hindered the action of the baits at all, just be sure the snaps are as small as you can get away with.

When you overdo something, I think you diminish it's importance and I feel that's what would happen if the flag was lowered for every soldier that falls. November 11th has been the National day of mourning & remembrance for many many years and I see no reason to change that tradition. That day has always stood as the day Canada honours ALL the soldiers, sailors and airmen who have given the ultimate in all the wars & peace keeping missions we've been involved in. Individual towns have always lowered a flag when one of their own is killed, but on a National level and for Canada as a whole, I think lowering the flag over the Capital Building should be kept for November 11, which is recognized as the one day a year when the entire county ..... hopefully ...... comes together at ceremonies across the continent to honour our heros. November 11th is a special day for our Military and is set aside for them and them alone, and lowering the flag for our deceased soldiers on that particular day is an honor and the ultimate sign of respect, and I personally feel it means much more to reserve that honour for only one day per year. If we overdo it, we'll diminish the importance.......but that's only my feelings. ........As for lowering the flag for a polititian, my feelings are the same as Waynes.

Here's an interesting tidbit while were talking about maximum horsepower. I've got a 1650 Crestliner with 2 different horsepower rating plates on it. The boat was manufactured in the US and is rated for a 90 HP motor......which is what I have.......but it also has a rating from the Canadian Coast Guard for only 50 HP, which I doubt would even get the boat on plane. I called the CCG when I first purchased the boat new to ask about the difference in HP ratings and was told that CCG is much more cautious when rating maximum HP for boats sold in Canada. He said it was perfectly legal for me to use the American rating but it could cause problems with my insurance company if I ever had an accident and it was proved to be caused by too much HP. Anyone else find this on their boats ??

I had a 6 HP Merc kicker and couldn't get muffs for it either, but it was small enough I could just hang it off the homebuilt motor stand and place the lower end in a 5 gallon pail and that worked fine.
