I pulled the trigger on my first boat last year. I bought a 16' side console with a 40hp. The whole package in new like condition was 5k and that turned into 6k in the blink of an eye when the trolling motor it came with, fried. The boat leaks a bit (which bugs me) but I didn't water test it although I did compression test and run the motor. (excellent motor) I otherwise could not be happier with my purchase. Anyway my point is, this boat was 3 grand more than the "nice" bare bones tinners i saw and Im glad I waited an extra season and got a little more boat. But there are many good used ones out there on kijiji etc. in the $1500 to $3000 range. Better to make your mistakes in a less expensive package and upgrade once you figure it all out. IMO... since you asked also if you would fell more comfortable get a used one from a dealer, you'll pay a little more but will get some support and a possible warranty too...

Perth/Smith's Falls shore fishing reccomendations for a vacation?
Shloim replied to sonicsink's topic in General Discussion
I once stayed, with my family, at Mcreary's beach resort. Its a great place for kids. You can rent a condo unit and they have a restaurant. You can fish off their dock and catch perch by the dozens its right on Lake Mississippi. It was about 4 years ago but, I believe we had a groupon so it was a good deal too... -
Id like to know who it is as well...we once bought a time share and put down a deposit. Then after researching it that night decided to pass, the operator would not take our call. So my wife walked in just as another session was about to start and got loud. Money was back on our card pronto!

First of all as a self employed business owner in the service industry, hes got to eat it. He screwed it up, so hes got to fix it! If he doesn't, hes a fool! As the old saying goes "do a good job" they tell 10 people, "do a lousy one" they tell 100 people. How old is the boat, is the transom even easily replaceable? If you stopped the cheque hell be calling shortly. Now you are in charge! Tell him calmly and do not budge on what you want done to make it right, thats all! Be firm when he calls and asking for a new transom is not unrealistic. if thats what you want dont settle for anything less.

Bug report, Parry Sound, Whitestone area??nf
Shloim replied to Court R's topic in General Discussion
Was in the cold water area near Gloucester pool the bugs were nuts! Skeeters were the worst, felt like the Muskol was an attractant. They didn't care how much or what we put on.They were biting us right through our bug net shirts....Good luck. Im not going back until July! -
I was pulled over on the long weekend, fishing for pike the pulled up right behind us without is having a clue. Our flashlight didn't work but I keep a crank up one on the boat do I passed and they were quite nice and to the point and fair, I have to say. Upon parting ways one of the officers even gave us a couple of spots that produced fish....

Oh and btw I've caught dozens of fair sized tothy guys. But vividly remember my first it was on mississippi lake near Perth and this was a small pike that almost made my cry. I asked an older man to help me with my tail between my legs....the hook was deep and it's teeth were showing and my pliers were tiny. He made it look super easy and basically said "no worries" although I know he was calling me a pansy under his breath

I have a couple pairs of the green and blue X Zone(I think) pliers in my boat and bag. They are around $14 at CT and cut all kinds of line and float and have got me out of plenty of jams. Likely the one fishing product I'm most happy with!

I got a couple of good quality vented ones from Eddy Bauer on sale. Except it was in buffalo I believe. But they were around 75% off. They are plaid so not too flashy

It's a powerful tool if used correctly . My wife has over "1000" friends. (And yes maybe 5 would actually change that tire) However she recently posted a valid annoyance with a local retailer. In a small neighbourhood it made them pay attention and change their ways, after she had around 50 likes to her post. Where she then noted their efforts to correct things. People have said they look forward to and love her posts about interesting things, she even has a bit if a following. But used incorrectly it can yield devastating results for some people

world fishing network free preview for April
Shloim replied to netminder's topic in General Discussion
I have it and there are a few shows I PVR and watch so that I can fast forward through the commercials and adds. My favorite show is the fishing adventurer on cottage channel, second is lunkerville. For all the reasons iron maker said. -
One other suggestion. Since it's common knowledge that the hospitality industry is the toughest, you mentioned you are a trades guy. If you want to invest in real estate, but a REIT. Avoid the headaches, now what I've been able to do for the past 2 summers is swap services for a weeks stay at a cottage. We created a pre determined scope of work and it worked perfectly 2 years going now. I would have done it again this year but my wife has an East coast road trip in the works. The options are endless for potential deals, we are also a seemingly "normal" family so that adds a comfort level for people. Just a thought ....

does the regular elite 4x show boat speed?
Shloim replied to 123chadder's topic in General Discussion
So is it safe to say "all" GPS units will give boat speed? My current crappy unit has no gps so ive been using my navionics app for speed. Also will the gps units indicate shoals and other obstacles on my map? Im thinking of a $600 unit for starters to eventually be the front unit and a larger one later on the console.... -
I'm interested too. I've missed mine or the idea of having one since I sold it to buy my boat. Might look at this costco boat too. The return policy is amazing. Took back our vacuum after 38mo no questions asked,.,

There are a ton of good used boats out there. The best ones usually pop up when you aren't looking. I looked and looked then found a great boat at a great price by just mentioning that I was interested in a boat to someone, who by chance knew someone ...

You need the OAC Ontario Accounting community. But they don't know much about fishing...
