  1. Morning folks, was thinking about trying my hand at some river fishing. Ive got waders for us both and want to take my 12 year old son who hates sports and needs to find an activity that doesn't involve a video screen. Fishing in the boat is great as long as hes on fish in 10 min otherwise he's bored and wondering when we are leaving otherwise hes on my phone playing games in the boat. Any suggestions as to where we can find some fish in a trib. not too far from TO. would be great! I promise not to share and put everything back. The only thing we take is usually some trash if we find any. Thanks in advance Sheldon
  2. I have 2 left from 4 I bought off of eBay . Think I paid $4.50 for 4 white with blue flames jerk baits. They work great!!!! Wish I had more
  3. Theres trappers in Haliburton? I had no idea
  4. Now don't get me wrong folks, Id love to catch a musky. Haven't caught one yet, but don't really have the proper gear so I'm hoping for a nice sized cooperative one I can land on my bass gear, It would be kinda cool to blow some stuff up with a monster fish because I haven't done that either....just not my EVO.
  5. Now let's not forget I'm the rookie here . So for a couple of reasons, I'd rather be busy with bass than throw massive lures all day long for hopefully 1 fish. We caught 250 fish there while we watched 50 guys get 5 fish in the same time period. Secondly it's not my boat and we have the privaledge of fishing with a pro who won a big tourney this season. He's going for bass and we are following....
  6. Ive found that you can lose an expensive light just as easily as a less expensive one....
  7. I was at one of the shows last year, felt like I was paying to go to Bass Pro. However they had a kayak testing pool that you could try various kayaks out in and that was cool. there was a short line up when i walked by so yaks are getting alot of interest... loved mine but sold it to help pay for another boat http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y444/Shloim1/20140419_121336_zps5fe2f492.jpg
  8. Was there a couple weeks ago and had a trip of a lifetime for me at least. So we are going back with a powerhouse team on a couple of boats. Cant wait, the weather so far looks great and while we will leave the musky fishing for others, the same guy that put us on to over 250 fish in 2.5 days (divided by 3) is coming and wants to target smallies on the main lake.....Any thoughts folks? Sheldon http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y444/Shloim1/IMG_31991_zpsre2nwbcj.jpg Heres one badass IQ challenged sheephead from our last outing.....
  9. Like I said before I had both a great canoe and yak. If I were to get a solo boat again it would be the Old Town Next.its the perfect solo boat IMO. For me weight while solo loadind and unloading is key and if you care to it allows you to carry it to some back woods spots too. Standing is nice but not really easy and without risk in a kayak,a 100 lb + boat is a whine to load and unload unless you have help and impossible to portage....
  10. It was awesome, we could tell when it was a sheepshead on the line as they have that twitch you can feel. We left my buddies boat there cuz were going back this fall! I've got a pass with the Mrs. because she gets to go see the Dead in NYC Madison square gardens on haloween. It's gonna be hard to go anywhere else now... Indeed I'm forever spoiled! Sheldon
  11. So I was out on lake St Clair with a couple of buddies and it was insane! The weather was crap and the wind was nuts so we basically stayed on the Thames river. This was also a recommendation from Jocelyn at Angling Outfitters. In 2.5 days we easily put 250 fish in the boat. Now alot of them were sheep heads and many people scoff at them. Boy do they put up a fight! We got a small musky, a nice walleye and a few largies but most were silver bass and sheep heads. What an incredible fishery!!! Highly recommended. We were sore from catching fish after the weekend. If you have never been add it to the bucket list. Sheldon http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y444/Shloim1/IMG_31991_zpsre2nwbcj.jpg I didnt mind guys like this all day long...
  12. I have a 1999 Lowe that I bought used a couple of years ago. it had been completely refurbished and looked like new on the trailer, which also looked new...Motor run great and everything works good on the boat but it leaks likely a bit too much. Likely not a brand I would recommend in a hurry. But I have to say I've dragged it all over and fished the heck out of it. Certainly getting good use out of it for my 6K with new trolling motor, and a spectacular second season. This year Im going to try to fix some more rivets and install an auto bilge pump. Also realize that it took me almost an entire year to find it. If you are looking for a used one you better get on them quick, I missed a dozen boats that came out on Kijiji they were sold before 9 the next morning....
  13. 1999 lowe 160sc with a 40hp, leaks like crazy but goes 30 mph, 27 loaded according to my navionics Iphone app
  14. Chris is right on stability of most canoes, but my outriggers allowed my to get out in rougher conditions, and 2 guys could stand in it no problem. I used to drive it standing
  15. http://s1275.photobucket.com/user/Shloim1/media/image_zpsa2fff7d3.jpg.html?o=63 http://s1275.photobucket.com/user/Shloim1/media/20140419_121336_zps5fe2f492.jpg.html?o=60 Here is an attempt at loading pics I hope it works...
  16. I had a canoe with a trolling motor and outriggers for a couple of seasons then a kayak to make loading easier. Liked them both but then sold them and bought a boat on a trailer the upgrade was only $3500 a lot but, not a crazy amount, I've never been happier! I use the boat all the time and if it wasn't such a pain Id load up some pics of them all...If you have the space go for it. Otherwise its expensive to store etc. and a pain if it isnt handy when ya want to get out. But something to consider...
  17. Launched at Rosedale before its a good launch with easy parking. Watch out as there are some sunken rocks that are hard to see...I smacked something there last year and did a bit of damage in the passage on the way to Coboconk near the north end of the big island.
  18. Well Ive never had any great luck fishing Rice Lake and that didn't change. Fished from 7:30 am until 1 pm and was only able to put 1 fish in the boat, an unimpressive smallie. My best day there was only a 4 fish day. Sucks that all the good places are at least a 2 hour drive from TO....Although just today a friend was telling me about a land locked lake near his cottage thats in the wild. Its about a 1k hike on a trail and voila! A unfished lake that holds huge bass and monster pike. Apparently people have dragged canoes back there and chained them up...Stay tuned for a fall report on that adventure
  19. So once its built what are you doing for power? Any alternate sources in mind? Just curious as Im an electrician and curious.... S
  20. So Im hitting Rice again tomorrow and was wondering if anyone else will be out on Rice? I also wouldn't be insulted by some offering up a tip or two. Just sayin.... Thanks Sheldon
  21. Theres a few in Keswick, but be careful, that water can get rough quick. Even on cooks bay i've had some rough rides back and Im in a 16' side console with 40 hp. Makes my boat feel very little... Otherwise try the wall in front of Crates for some good pike fishing if their there!
  22. Pump, if you got the finesse Trd in green pumpkin They are awesome!!! The fish were going crazy on them and they are so tough I would rig wacky first then after a couple of fish switch it up and put a jig head on and then use it on both ends...incredible! It out fished gulp by a mile and I love the gulp
  23. Ok, so I registered my boat with the gov. and got back a "Pleasure Craft License" that clear say "This is not a title" How do I get a title/ownership for my boat? I have an ownership for my trailer?
  24. Hey yall, I just tried some Z man 2.75" worms and they are dynamite! I think they will become my new go to plastic, move over Gulp.... Only trouble is where to find them in Canada? Toronto to be more specific. Anybody have and suggestions? online they want as much for shipping as they do the lures. I hope its not my only option.... BPS apparently has Z man but Im not sure about in Canada. Thanks in advance for your help...
