Tell him it's part of a "Living Will" no payback required. My kid brother suggested my parents do that for him. I told him he better make sure he has a will in order. As far as the difficulty insuring an older glasser as they say "You learn something everyday." A gent brought his boat in to our little hobby marine shop where I help the guys work on boats to keep us out of trouble over the winter. A gent brought in a early model 17' glass StarCraft that he could feel a soft spot in the floor. The boat looked mint for any age. The thing was rotten to the hull, it is surprising the I/O didn't fall through the hull as the motor mounts were basically hanging by a treaded bolt. We have been working on it since DEC 1. Looks can be deceiving on a glass boat. It all started years back from a non tight cover that let water in the aft corners and got trapped between the outside stringers. You could pull some of the wood out in pieces by hand. I was once told on another site by a broker Canadians generally do not insure their off road toys, and many never register them. Your Skeeter was stored indoors so you should not have a problem. If you keep it outside get the best, tightest mooring cover you can. A snap down towing cover isn't the same. When mine is parked I use 8 large Javex bottles full of water hanging on the grommets to keep the mooring cover much tighter than with a draw string. If you need a cover I have a lead on a custom cover maker at a good price, she uses Sunbrella. My Sunbrella cover is over 20 years old. If you are interested PM me. I saw 2 guys in a boat on the Grand today fishing in Dunnville.

Insure it through your Home Owners policy or find a new broker and make sure you tell them you are shopping for a new provider. A required survey for a small Skeeter is ridiculous.

Now just say, "Strait off the Wind Turbines." Which one though?

Purchasing a used boat from a dealer % rate
Old Ironmaker replied to AKRISONER's topic in General Discussion
Good for you Akri. Don't believe the old "2 best days of a boat owner." If and when you sell will be because you have a bigger boat coming some day. -
They say they don't make things the way they used to. When it comes to todays vehicles thank God. Maybe we can't tinker with them but it was unheard of to get over 100,000 miles out of a car without it rusting to iron dust.
-
What fun is it to take a vehicle in for oil every 10,000K and never have to lift the hood in the lifetime of the vehicle. I was in shape when I had to bump start my cars.

The killer is if the plates can't be read through no fault of your own you can get a ticket for illegible plates. You can get a ticket if you put them in the blueish plastic covers they sell that change the colour. I had a set that peeled after a few years, replaced for no charge. I was also told 5 years and newer will be replaced at no charge.

I love her too! My wife not your wife but I can see why you do. Mine arranged a Musky charter for my 60th. We had a place in west FLA and I went for Tarpon a few times. You can get ready for Tarpon fishing now. Tie a steel cable to the back of a 1/2 ton 4x4 and try and reel it in with the truck in drive.

.Lamborghini was originally tractor builders after WW2 until Lamborghini who was building his tractors went to Enzo Ferrari and showed him how he solved Ferraris gearbox problems by using his tractor tranny's. The old man kicked him out of his office and Mr. Lamborghini swore to beat Ferrari at it's own game on and off the race track and actually did for a time . The German cars were complicated to work on years ago, not just lately. My 69' 280S had manual windows. The window came off the track. There was a special tool to pop the fasteners off to get the door panel free, then there was about 3 layers of plastic, insulation and fibre board on to get to the window. But when you close a door on a Benz you can hear the quality and over engineering even back then. Those Becker AM, FM radio/cassette players that they used were as good as todays Bose units, no actually they were better. Most people that have never owned one are usually the first to criticize them. The Lamborghini tractor history below. Their tractors looked similar as the Porche tractor back then Tom. http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2011/03/lamborghini-cars-were-a-result-of-a-tractor-company-owners-frustration-with-Ferrari/

When I start looking for my weekend toy after we sell here I think I am going to look for a early Fiat Spider or Alfa Spider Veloce. I don't speak German but can just get by in Italiano. Those 2 vehicles are void of modern electronics and I know I can at least do a basic tune up and change a battery. Plus I can swear at it in broken Italian. A good pal had both in the 70's, he still has the 69' Fiat Spider. Rust is the issue with those Italian models and fitting a set of Golf clubs in them but that's what luggage racks are for. Arrivaderci macina Tedesco.

2019-2020 Hockey Thread
Old Ironmaker replied to DRIFTER_016's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
I do not like shoot outs. Like kicking field goals to settle a Football game. The Canadian girls looked like they were skating in slush the last and OT period. They finally got their penalty and did not take advantage. -
With all the electronics today the days of the backyard mechanic are dwindling. If you can do your own stuff good on you. I can change oil and some batteries, but I don't since it took me an hour to change the battery buried in the fender on the old Intrepid. I do all the service on my boat though. I can't watch this shootout for the girls gold.

You can't beat a day like you all had. Big bonus was not having to lug all the stuff and drill all the holes. Way to go me Man. The girlfriend can drill holes and catch fish, but can she cook them? If yes a trifecta. If she owns her own boat well that my friend is a what I call a keeper.

Good news, my herself a nice late model Kia Optima yesterday. She found it online at A Brantford Ford dealer, made a call, asked all the right questions, researched it online for hours, went to see it Saturday. Took it for a spin on the 401 and around town. She made a good deal below market value and had the dealer do a few touch ups I missed and paint the entire hood due to chips. Made sure it came with 2 keyless entry fobs and will pick it up Friday. I'm proud of her. It won't pulls G's and weld you in the seat like she likes but I get my truck back after the winter. AT

Congrats Simon, you d' man. What did you use to get that beast? I found they would hit just about any minnow bait when on the hunt like a simple 10 CM floating Rappala, black on silver or chrome, maybe a few split shot and a good Titanium leader. If getting even the smaller Cuda they don't last long. They will crunch a plastic bait to smithereens. Anything with a flash worked for me. I am never concerned with what else is swimming in the water when I wade in and fish saltwater I am more aware not to step on a Ray and get stung. They bury themselves in the sand and are difficult to see. I kick the sand in front of me when I walk. That's how that guy from Australia who's name I can't recall died. Steve something.

The tag the OP is referring to is that plate that tells HP maximum, number of total people allowed on board or gross weight. I am going to venture a guess that Transport Canada will accept the US tag on new vessels. If that US imported boat has Canadian registration you are good to go.
-
Where you been girl? All good tips. Have fun and go slay em"!

It isn't difficult and may cost 100 bucks maybe for the notarized statement. You will have to pay sales tax on the boat, if they send you a tax statement, not always, the trailer is a provincial registration, separate from the boat. If you don't have paper for that just tell them it's home made, they don't even want a pic usually, just your Loonies. On an old 14' tinny, not much Fed tax if they ask for it as I said. They usually get it when you sell. Do it right and you won't have to stress over the OPP sending you to do hard time in prison making small rocks out of big rocks. I have read on iboats.com that 60% of boats in Canada are not legally registered. There are something like 10 times more Safe Boating cards or whatever they are called than boats registered in Canada.
-
Have had to do the same thing a few times for the boys that buy these old boats without any paperwork. 1) Got a notarized statement saying what was paid for the boat and when. 2) Had to photograph the Transport Canada tag on the boat if there is one, some older boats won't have one and if from the US obviously won't have one unless the previous Canadian owner applied for one. . 3) Photo of the serial number on the transom and engine if they exist. Many just aren't readable due to age. 4) Pictures of the boat 5) Sent it all to the Feds after filling out the appropriate forms from Transport Canada website. Received paperwork in about 3 weeks to a month. I would never do anything illegal like swap a cowl from a 9.9 to a 15HP as a 15HP and 9,9 are the same size and weight.

Hamilton Harbour Walleye
Old Ironmaker replied to the spirit of fishing's topic in General Discussion
OK you go first John. Hopefully some day it will be safe, I really hope so. I won't feel as guilty then. If you told me 20 years ago there would be Walleye in that cesspool I would call you crazy, so who knows? I fell in the East Side Lagoon that drained into the bay when I was a 16 year old HS kid working for a contractor after school. I was standing on the stuff for a few seconds before I went under. They sent me to the Stelco medical and gave me a shot of something and went back to work soaking wet. The things we had to do for 3 bucks an hour in grade 10 was insane. Good money then I tell ya. If today my parents would be reported to Child Protective Services. 16 freekin years old. I did buy a brand new car in grade 12 though. Best car in the teachers parking lot!! -
Another good read from MNR Watch. We study history so as to not repeat our mistakes. Many guys our way hunting Coyotes now. Not many reported bagged, I am told the fur and skins are used and the meat for Dogs. I am not one to support killing for the sake of simply killing. http://mnrwatch.com/are-wolves-the-new-bears/

Hamilton Harbour Walleye
Old Ironmaker replied to the spirit of fishing's topic in General Discussion
Agreed 110%. It isn't a big body of water. It could easily be fished out even if it is all catch and release if what I read about the mortality rate of C&R of Walleye is close to accurate. -
Hamilton Harbour Walleye
Old Ironmaker replied to the spirit of fishing's topic in General Discussion
That doesn't include everything from the Coke Oven By-Products dumped in there pre 1981. We made chemical weapons from the stuff for US and British forces for use in WW1 to give everyone an idea what is in there. When there was no longer a market for things like Mustard Gas it was just dumped into the Burlington Bay. Including every one of the designated substances known to cause Cancer and many other birth defects in children. There will be those that will eat each and every single fish caught. No doubt in my mind, no doubt whatsoever. Idiots all. -

Fish Farmer, it wasn't I that ratted out. Old time OG Hamilton guys don't do that. Especially east enders.
