  1. It was the dead of winter. No one close.
  2. We would throw clay pigeons out over the lake until I got a visit from our local OPP. And they didn't leave until they took a few shots too.
  3. With all the proper paper work buying a boat south is a breeze. Make sure you know what is required on both sides first. I have brought back 5 cars over the years and a boat for a pal that can't cross. I was his eyes and ears. The difference of only 2 feet in a boat can be huge. I fished a few times in a 17' Lund, only 2 feet shorter than my StarCraft 190. To me it felt very crowded with just the 2 of us and no where near as stable in just 2 foot chop as mine, not close. I can get my deep V into water that a Bass boat will go with the electric. Mine is a deep V but doesn't have much of a draught, 18" if not loaded down. The key is how much draught a boat has rather than the hull design. As far as making a 2 pile, that's what 5 gallon pails are for. Reduce pollution by way of dilution.
  4. A glass Walleye boat like the Stratos would kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Plenty of room for 3 to cast in the shallows and stable enough for bigger water. A quality boat can last you a lifetime if looked after.
  5. Exactly SirC. The Police has not cleared the school and there was already a Democrat Congressman spewing the same old rhetoric about gun laws and gun accessibility on CNN. This may be a bit more than the 24 hour news cycle, Kill only a few kids and it is old news tomorrow.
  6. Huzz, I can't seem to be able to PM with the new format or I would have for this info. You need to get a copy of this Springs CAA magazine. The Volvo Agera RS Supercar has a top speed of 447.19 KPH, no not a typo, 447.19 KPH at I don't know how many G's welding you in the seat. The Polestar 1 looks like a 2 door Maserati concept car, the rear spoiler deploys from the trunk once the car hits 100KPH. These ain't Moma's kid mover Volvo wagon or your Professors 4 door crash tested sedan. I hope they bring back the glory days of the P-1800. https://www.google.ca/search?dcr=0&biw=1093&bih=528&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=NP2EWo-1B8rWjwO21pHoBg&q=volvo+polestar+1&oq=volvo+polestar&gs_l=psy-ab.1.1.0l10.487773.494769.0.497031.15.10.1.4.5.0.360.1495.0j1j4j1.6.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..5.10.1551...0i67k1j0i13k1.0.6gYbBTTatT0 Johnny D
  7. You didn't believe me G.? I wouldn't embellish or make something up. Man I'm older but not that old, but our text books must have been and that's what everyone called it, I still do. I went to Bartonville School that was on Kenilworth South, it was 100 years old when I went to Kindergarten in 1958. Wow I am old. Burlington Bay has been cleaned up but not enough for me to eat from it. I worked next to it for 30 years and know what was dumped in it. Reduce pollution though dilution. Google Randle Reef, one of the hottest spots in the entire World. A few years ago I was sworn to secrecy by one of our members here as they were catching Pics through the ice. No secret now.
  8. It's all over the news. I grieve for those kids and teachers. Talking just the other day it seems every generation had to deal with things that might kill them. My grand parents had WW1 and WW2, Mom and Dad WW2, we had air raid sirens 100 yards from our home to warn the Russian were nuking us and now Gen Xers and Millennials have to deal with this
  9. I wonder if there is a warning as for consumption of those Burlington Bay Walleye and Perch? I don't know when they changed the name to Hamilton Harbour, it was called Burlington Bay back when we were kids. Those Pics were not too smart to go to Hamilton. Oh wait, like many from TO maybe they are taking advantage of the cheap housing. Maybe smart after all.
  10. I'm glad you have decided to pull the trigger Akrisoner. This is a good time to buy actually. Check around the Marine dealers for your boat. Many have taken in trade ins from the Boat Show. The owner at the building where we all work on our boats has a nice 16' tinny side council we worked on rainy days last Fall It was torn out to the skeleton and rebuilt properly, new foam, new marine plywood, new carpeting, new paint, battery and 3 good seats plus other add ons like rod holders. I think it has a 50 or 60 Merc on it and a front electric troller. The engine has been gone over totally and has a clean bill of health. It will take 3 fisherpersons with comfort as long as they weren't former Offensive linemen. I was looking at it for myself actually if I decide to downsize from my 19' StarCraft. It's a Smoker Craft. You won't need a LOC to buy it either. It would be a great starter/fart around boat until you see what you actually want in the future. I will forego my finders fee which is usually a free lunch I end up paying for. PM me if interested and I'll put you in touch with them. Johnny D
  11. If there was "like" option this thread would get 2 pages of likes. I have been using sonar for over 25 years but have learned much on this thread. Thanks go to you all. I don't know what we did to pass time on a slow or non excitant bite before we had cartoons to watch. Oh yea, drank beer. On my very first unit other than the flasher has an ice fishing set up. A portable with solid horizontal rod that goes to a vertical steel rod and the transducer has a bubble on it that shows dead level. When in a boat it suction cups to the transom. Eagle Ultra Fish I.D. that I can still use to this day if I knew who borrowed it.
  12. We live on a "Private" laneway too Lew. The sign used to say "Private roadway use at your own risk." A lady who doesn't live here fell walking her dog and broke her leg. 1st she tried to sue the County, not our property they told her. Next she tried to sue the home owners association, we don't have one. Then she finally sued the cottage owner where she fell. His insurance company settled for a quick small claims $10,000.00. So go figure. Today warning signs aren't worth the tin they are made of. We were told we had to have "NO TRESPASSING" signs at every entrance. And enforce it or that sign means nothing. An old joke. An Italian Lawyer attends a legal conference in NYC. He goes back home and when asked what he saw he says, " When I was there 3 different people fell down in front of the hotel we were staying and each one sued for 3 million American dollars." He was asked are you moving to the US to practice personal liability law?" He said "Hell no I'm going to move there and fall down in front of that hotel!" Sounds funnier in Italian, but rings true.
  13. They have tried. About 17 years ago the town of Port Dover posted "no fishing" on the popular pier with the blessing of the Feds. Liability issues was the reason. I personally asked Town Council how can a town have liability for property they aren't responsible for? That they couldn't answer. They gave some mumbo jumbo about them having responsibility for maintenance and cleaning of which the Feds paid for. I then asked it must then be closed to those feeding the Ducks or taking in the view, more politico diarrhea. After public outcry from both perch fisherpersons as well as businesspersons the signs were taken down. If you want to fish there, fish and get arrested. It will be thrown out or never brought to court by The Crown Attorney.
  14. Great gesture to offer them here 1st John. Where were you last Fall when I needed 8 tires?
  15. It is happening already Tom. About 8 years ago I drove a 03' Chrysler Intrepid into the Hagersville scrap yard with 300,000 kms. The car didn't have a scratch on it and shone like new. It would have been the 3rd Transmission communication computer module that fried in as many years. At $1100.00 a pop. I couldn't give the car away. That's a depreciation loss of about $24000.00 in 5 short years. I only took the rubber floor mats. I forgot the battery was buried behind a cross member, the washer tank had to be pulled and then the fender cover removed before you even see a battery. 24 grand my friends is a lot of BMW service and repairs. Pay back is a beeoch. I think I got 3 answers to the original question. Pay back for all the threads I have hi-jacked here. I am on a few other forums that as soon as you hi-jack a thread the post is deleted and a PM from a mod is sent, that's no fun.
  16. I went t Italy in 88' and I had a cousin who was a professional student that drove a new 3 series, it too was a stripped down version of the same car imported into North America. No A/C, crank windows and zero carpeting. It would be 1/2 the price as a North American BMW 3 series then. I don't drive imports or NA sports sedans because of the status thing, I want to drive my car not have it drive me. For many it's to get from A to B. We spend many days behind the wheel of a vehicle when you look at how many thousands of K's we put on them. I don't like wasting my life as a passenger behind the wheel if I can help it.
  17. Don't eat them Talapia Dave. You are the one that warned us about their diet in Viet Nam. No antibiotics or steroids just chicken crap. I don't think the suit is frivolous, it is unwinnable and that will cost taxpayers millions in legal fees.
  18. What's a "foxbody" boom?
  19. Joey you would be surprised then that fish will scatter in 30' of water, I can't say without a doubt below the ice but can say for certain they do in open water. Many years of diving and snorkeling prove that. We shut down the boat motor and use the elec. or drift into position on jumbo perch grounds. If some nim nod throws an anchor overboard into Perch grounds you will watch your screen clear.
  20. I knew a few Budd's employees over the years. All retired now probably. I won't lease for what I am looking for until my wife semi retires. With her commute the daily driver would exceed the allotted K's. If we were to buy it out that is a possibility to lease a BMW's or other new or slightly used car. Prices like they advertise in the US I might be all over it. I would need to have my lawyer look at a lease, there can be a myriad of hidden costs in a lease today. Interesting actually. I never considered a lease for the everyday driver since I sold my share of the business. Thanks leaf.
  21. I'd drive one of those Acura's that have stolen some Pina Farina designs. You don't see many around. what are they called SX something? We drove a 011' XTS Caddy and a 14' the other day. Even my wife said it is a boring car. It drives like a 1980's Cadillac, loose, bulky and boring. Tomorrow I am going to look at a CTS and an ATS, weather permitting. It really is a good time of year to test drive a car, especially a rear wheeler. When I asked the guy what they would give me for my Silverado I knew it wasn't going to be good but what he offered was ridiculous, 12 grand for a 2011 4X4 crew cab, chrome package with 100K, still under extended warranty. I told him if he had any I will take 3. He's only doing his job. They would turn around and ship it south and make a quick 8K, minimum. Canuck, sorry about your luck. I have wanted to do that entire coastal drive too, Seattle to Tijuana . Always has been on my wish list since I drove about 100 miles on Pacific 1 as a passenger in the 70's and I don't remember much of it, cheap Tequila . I wish manufacturers would stick to what they do best, manufacture cars not SUV's, crossovers whatever that means, or trucks. But they must compete. Stick a sliding door on the side and voila, a mini van. I have noticed many of these companies don't do well on their crossover/mini-van clones. Lamborghini actually has a 650 HP SUV out this year. They were however an Italian Tractor producer before they started making Super Bulls when Mr. Lamborghini was kicked out of Enzo Ferrari's office. That gave him incentive to beat Ferrari nd he did for a few years racing. Old man Enzo said "We are a race car company that makes passenger cars on the side."
  22. You guys saying I am premature in something? You, you, you. Man the guy makes 1 thread and it gets hi-jacked on the 3rd post. Don't be afraid Fish Guy, we don't bite. I like when someone says "No disrespect but......"
  23. He is used to it by now. You are bragging now Brian. I was feeling so good yesterday I told Tich I might try and walk a few hundred yards today. Maybe with a cane.
  24. I was sent this today from MNR Watch. No need to make this political even though it could easily go that way. For me what I take away from it is that we Canucks are becoming as litigious now as Americans. Art if you or any of our owners/mods feel at anytime this discussion is going off the rails you guys do what you feel you need to do. If you aren't receiving emails from MNR Watch sign up at the right side of the page. Well worth it. 25. Aren't you supposed to be out fishin' Dude? I woke up with a strained Achilles Tendon. I shoveled at least 15 feet of walkway yesterday. My body sucks, 15 feet a shovel width, guys used to want to be me, now I don't want to be me. I can't even take out the garbage and recycle today, that's a useless body. I dare not ask my wife after she's been out working for 10 hours on a Sunday. That's not fair. Maybe I'll ask the 87 year old lady next door. My point is that you are supposed to fish for the both of us.
