7 grand, we collect far more than that in cash at our annual Golf Tourney. You can tell today is a cashless society. Don't sweat it Dutch, cash is King.

That's part of the problem. You have to remember there are probably more people in our little beachside residence than all those folks within 50k's of you Simon. As far as CCTV, not 1 within 60 K's of here. I should have said I don't like them bothering me, go play in the field across the road, nothing to see there though.

I don't want to be the old curmudgeon that won't give a kid his ball back when it goes over the fence but if I see another one flying close by it's 911 time. Bruce I would have called the Leo's if I saw one near an airfield. This entire lake is an airfield actually.

I don't like them. They are an invasion of my privacy. A neighbour let their teen grandson and his crew stay at their Lake House last summer. The incessant rheeeeeeee sound was nerve wracking. They were on the beach and running it up and down the shoreline and laneway one afternoon within 50 feet of cottages. The last time I heard it was just before I heard a blast from a 12 gauge. I don't condone shooting a weapon off in a small neighbourhood over the lake where there were no people either but.......Remington 1 , Drone 0 If you have one, great enjoy but do it away from me, far away.

2019-2020 Hockey Thread
Old Ironmaker replied to DRIFTER_016's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
I read the NHL playoff article. Absolutely ridiculous. House leagues have better playoff schedules. Why was this system put in place? It's simply not worth it for a team to finish in the top spots. It isn't rocket science. A number of teams with the best record get a bye, that is the reward for finishing with the best records. Then 1 plays 20, 2 plays 19 etc. What is so difficult about that? I have no idea how many make the playoffs, if I recall almost everyone makes the NHL playoffs. -
Here as well. Last year we were golfing by now. Today Lonnie sized snowflakes blowing up hill off the lake. This winter just won't go away. Nice video as usual mate. Well done. You do know you talk to yourself when fishing, like most of us. My language at times is R rated though, especially when a hog Walleye spits the hooks boat side. They used to hammer those critters at a local marina, of course once I decided to go for them they were nowhere to be found, of course. Art if you are reading this please PM me, I can't get the "contact" feature to work nor does the PM. I need Blue, and not the Ale.

All you need is a copy of the sales receipt, that will keep you clear of a money laundering charge. I sold a 76' Vette in 79' for 7800 bucks, the guy gave me a big old well worn paper bag full of 5's, 10's and 20's, no questions asked back then, a few raised eyebrows raised for sure though. Definitely the guy was washing his dope money. Someone set it on fire a week later according to the Cops that paid me a visit. I need to write that book. edit: before I forget what really happened, what is embellished or what I think really happened.

So as a Bitcoin or e commerce user I can wake up the next morning and find it has devaluated to zippo? That's all I need to know about e commerce. I have a total of 1 experience buying on line, I needed a flight to Arizona the same day. I'm old school, if I use a bank or credit card and the purchase is say 200 bucks I have 220 cash in my pocket. Believe it or not where we live there isn't a cable connection from retail stores, only dial up so using a bank card etc. is hit and miss.

Sounds similar to this Bitcoin thing. It is something my dear Lady is looking into, I don't like the idea. Actually I don't like any idea that can't be explained to me and my simple noggin within a few days, especially when it comes to MY money, her money too.

Talking about the wind yesterday we got onto a conversation with a few guys that have about 200 years of experience between us on this wind machine called Lake Erie. If any of you are on Erie in a boat and the wind shifts to due east or due west get off that lake ASAP. What is about to follow is never good. I told a couple of guys that were out with me here Perch fishing, and we were hammering Jumbo's at the time, to pack it up now. A beuty of a day the Sun was shining and just enough breeze to stay cool on a summer afternoon. They were bewildered and protested quite ineffectively. By the time we rounded Peacock Point 10 minutes latter the sky was a jhet pitch black and lightning was striking the Hydro stacks. Both men are very Christian and they were speaking in tongues by the time we safely hit the creek. The reason I could tell the wind was coming was looking at the plumes coming off those wonderful Hydro stacks at 90 degrees. Those stacks were not just markers to a safe port, when they were making power they told wind direction and speed in a glance. I guess the Wind Turbines will have to do but they won't give you an indication of speed or where Nanticoke Creek is. I will miss them.

careful when you open your doors today
Old Ironmaker replied to huzzsaba's topic in General Discussion
You city folk don't know what windy is. I saw waves yesterday that had to be 12 feet from belly to tip, maybe more. I took my wife's little Kia to the hardware store and it nearly took the door clean off the hinges had I not held it. Wind measured 90MPH on a buoy outside Colbourne I was told today. Believe it or not that wasn't the windiest I have seen it, close though. That was a summer thunderstorm years ago when the due west would pick up water and fling it 100's of feet parallel to the shoreline, waterspouts every 20 minutes, the sky was so black all the solar lights came on. A due west wind or due east wind here is very rare. Power went out in the Erie and Pittsburg Pa area for 8 hours back then. Warning. If any of you are on Erie in a boat and the wind shifts to due east or due west get off that lake ASAP. What is about to follow is never good. I told a couple of guys that were out with me here Perch fishing, and we were hammering Jumbo's to pack it up, now as the Sun was shining and a tad breezy. I had 2 weapons back then on me at all times, even sleeping. They were left and right guns, get it, guns. Junkies were no more or less visible back then too, they were smarter though. Those were the days in Steel City that differences were settled in the parking lots at the plants or hotels, no guns or knives etc. The odd ball bat could come into play however, actually a nice piece of washing machine hose with a ski pole grip was more effective and much lighter. I had an old Compare that when asked by the Police why he had a baseball bat in the back seat, he told him in his broken English "Just in case I see a game and I want to play too, you never know." Then they asked "What about the shotgun, in case you see a Deer playing on Burlington St?"

I said yesterday winds had to be 80KPH on the north shore of Erie, I was wrong, winds hit 90MPH on the weather buoy at Pt. Colbourne before it sunk I was told today. There's a few hundred cords of deadwood on Lakeshore Drive within a kilometer. A good sized branch missed my wife's new car with a glass roof by a few feet. There's snow on the deck. Worse spring windstorm I have seen here in 22 years. Some blue boxes are 500 meters into the farmers fields.

I want to see cash but if not comfortable go to the guys bank with him and get a cashiers cheque from the teller. I once sold a house and went to my bank with a bag with $195,000.00 in it. It took me 1/2 an hour to count it. That I don't recommend to the faint of heart. I was young then and had 35 lbs more of muscle, but looking back I was an idiot.

With the wind here if I decided to go fishing they would find me in NY. Nice fish Bruuuuuuce,

We have been on a point on the north shore of Erie for 24 years. We have seen it all. Water Spouts the size of 24 story TO condos. Once the wind would pick up the water, lift it and dump it 200 yards further east, power went out in Pittsburg PA for 8 hours that storm, the sky was a cornucopia of colours that would eclipse an LSD trip in the 60's. Today was a new one. We had winds in excess of 90 KMH, rare in the spring,. At first the 8 to 10 footers were smashing against the armour rock 30' below and splashing against the south wall. This is the neat part. The temps dropped an we got a micro climate, the spray from the lake began to freeze mid air, sleet then snow and hail on the deck and against the windows. The other side of the property showed plus 3C on my truck. My phone is busted no video so if you don't believe me please use your imaginations like the old days when they used to sell newspapers, books and magazines. "If a tree falls in the forest and no one has a telephone,,,,, err cell phone to video it did it fall?"

baggage fees Interesting article: flying with fishing gear
Old Ironmaker replied to huzzsaba's topic in General Discussion
It isn't the cost of extra baggage that worries me it is the good chance they lose my stuff on the way to my vacation destination. I travelled a lot and on more then a few occasions either my tackle or my Golf Clubs were either late 3 days into my short trip or never showed up at all. I started to Fed Ex my stuff ahead an lug it back on the plan. Never a lost anything again. -

Adding fluid to a starting/cranking battery?

I haven't added water to a battery since the 70's. Marine or auto. -
Hamilton/south end lake o boat launches?

Forans Marina maybe. Come out to Port Maitland, launch for free and catch a Walleye too. -
Unbelievable.

Trailer is MOT Ontario transfer, boat title is transferred at Service Canada, federal. They may send a tax bill, maybe they won't. Make sure you get a separate invoice for each the boat and the trailer as they will charge you tax on the trailer. I'm not sure about all this on line bull. When I'm told to do something online I tell them I'm 81 and don't own a computager.

To Cover or Not to Cover, that is the question
Old Ironmaker replied to AKRISONER's topic in General Discussion
I consider towing the boat like driving a convertible, when it's raining or put away top up. I never leave anything of value left in the boat unless I'm fishing in it like electronics and tackle, never. -
