  1. Excellent journalism. Don't forget everyone we are well mannered door opening help a lady across the street type of folks eh, so be kind to our neighbors to the south. All this flooding we are having on the Lake Erie shoreline may indeed be flowing tears from the south. By the way kickingfrog, I just realized why I can't skate, my mother was born in Western NY, no wonder. Now let's not be really celebrating until we have gorged ourselves on those Swedish meatballs. I think it's Sweden next? I'll find out Sunday morning at 07:00.
  2. I second Nippissing, went every year with the family in summer and spring and winter with the boys before we bought a cottage. One of the best decisions of my life. We still go back for icefishing every few years when there is ice. Try to find a place on the south shore i.e. Calendar Bay. Bear Creek Cottages is the best, that's were we went from 78' to 96'. Large safe and shallow sandy beach, kids area with swings etc. A great protected dock on Bear Creek behind the cottages. Beautiful accommodations and most importantly everything from Bluegill off the docks for the little ones to Musky just around the corner in South Bay. Fantastic place. Third generation ownership I believe. When people like my former inlaws and the entire families of Aunts, Uncles and cousins book every year since the early 70's it has to be good. Now cousins are bring the great great grand children to the same place. http://bearcreekcottages.com/
  3. Do you want us to believe in our own stereotypes? An American finds out I'm Canadian and asks me to say something in French or how many Eskimo's I know am I to be upset with that stereotyping? If they ask me to help them understand hockey and God forbid can't how embarrassing is that? Just because I don't understand beyond the basics I embarrass you. I'm sorry I'm embarrassing. I'm still proud to be Canadian no matter how embarrassing I am to you, man. Are you ready ?,,,,,,,,,,,I can't skate, how embarrassing is that? For once I think I'll stop typing.
  4. The drawing shows the blue "jumper" going from positive on battery 1 to negative on battery 2 and positive on 2 to negative on battery 3. Is this correct?
  5. Yes the 3 classes of animal. So as vermin mice should be legal to use as bait. Not squirrels, ducks, kittens, puppies or Hedgehogs. Snake tails still moving for Bass, please lady say it isn't so. So far that's the winner.
  6. A monstrous specimen, I've caught large crappie but now I have a different perspective of large. It's nice to see your arms tucked in for the pic of the 2 beauties. Did you get a weight and measurement,? it really doesn't matter large is big but it would be nice to know. That smile must be cramping up by now, it will take a while for it to go away. Way to go kiddo. Smile and be proud, you deserve it.
  7. That would just be another day here on the shore of Erie. Thunder and lightning during a calm snowfall is not normal. Have had a few claps and flashes this afternoon and tonight. Prepare? Getting the boat from storage for this thaw.
  8. P3TA is considered a obscene word here? OK I get it.
  9. Afraid to ask, I don't think even P3TA considers a deceased laden rat an animal, no I think they do. I wonder if snapping them slightly in half with a loaded spring leaving them to die slowly would be considered cruelty? I've never heard P3TA even complain about that. Poor Mickey. I imagine they would be great in the weeds for Bass, Pike and Musky. If only I could catch one, my cat sure can't.
  10. Talked to one of usual suspect fishing pals on the phone this afternoon and asked the same question. Apparently Cheeto's are a go to bait for panfish. Asked this question on another site and one guys current bait of choice for carp is a dough ball of white bread with peanut butter and jelly. He didn't say smooth or crunchy. Mike Borger I can't believe you ever used a red and white bobber even as a child. I picture you with a custom made imported exotic wood slip rig pencil float at 7. That's not a dig it's a compliment Mike, we Hammer boys would never make a dig at a fellow Steeltowner, apparently now Art Towner.
  11. Just asked the question on the " Live Target Lure " thread, has anyone ever used a live mouse to fish. I don't know what the regs are for using live or dead mammals for bait. There sure are plenty of them and after all they are vermin. We've heard the urban legend about using live kittens and Gerbils ( different vermin) for Musky. (wow the girls just tied the game up). OK, we used the old tried and true pieces of salami, hot dogs, cheese etc. for panfish as kids and still use shrimp for big cats on the Grand. I think the craziest bait I've used is perch eyes for perch icefishing, I don't hear about using them as bait here. Tried a Birch leaf once with a hook and split shot, never got one but my buddy got a bluegill with some type of tree leaf. What is the craziest bait you've used and actually caught a fish with it?
  12. I know this might sound crazy, but has anyone ever used a live mouse fishing. I don't know what the regs are when it comes to using live mammals for bait. They're not little cuddly pets they're vermin. There sure are enough of them around. I've heard the stories over the years about using kittens or Gerbils ( pet vermin) for Musky. I would like to think the kitten thing is an urban legend but there's someone out there sick enough I'm sure. If you don't want to admit to it just say "I know this guy that,,,,,,,,,,". For all the Gerbil owners, sorry I think they are fat rats in a cage, I can't tell the difference. Canada girls just made it 2-1, USA.
  13. There are countless uses for this from farming to hunting. Slush and ice, we didn't see that demo. But the video shows a frame for the Artic Cat electric snowmobile. I think it's a long way from optimal battery life. That's the issue the techs are contending with of course. They are getting better.
  14. I remember my father and uncles bringing home bushel baskets of them home from below the James Allen Skyway Bridge in Hamilton. Just like I predicted Misfish, no event for me this weekend, am walking with a cane this week. Again sorry I'm miss it.
  15. There's no cure for what you apparently just contracted fortunately. You are in a great centrally located area. Ports, Burrell, Bruce and Stanley on Erie, Long Point Bay, The Thames and LSC and Detroit River. I don't know about the Grand River? I don't fish it much because it's 15 minutes away and when I do, no luck other than big Cats in Dunnville. Welcome. Come on in.
  16. My pal has been working there at the Alcan plant. He says find water, catch a fish, anywhere. Right where the bus drops the crews off at the gate he's caught salmon.
  17. Many funny things over the years, my father on our only fishing trip of my life getting chased in a field by a bull with udders screaming help, help. Pulling a prank on a pal that is too busy sleeping and spitting tobacco to ever catch a fish. Snag his line and he never notices his rod pumping, pull his harness in and hook an empty beer can on it, drop it in. The can fills up and the rod is a pumpin'. Danny you have a fish, no way!!! He's losing it as were telling him it's bigger than the net, this side, no that side, man what a monster!!! Net it, Man you got a Budweiser. He loses it as it's the first fish of his life, straight goods and starts WWF wrestling with Hutch in the middle of the boat with 4 of us in it. Hutch is getting the tar beat out of him and he had nothing to do with the whole thing. I'm not as eloquent as HTHM but one of the funniest things this past year was HIM falling out of my boat when he tried to set the hook on a 5" perch with his $350.00 ultralight. Lost his $250.00 sunglasses too. That's more than my old truck was. Probably looked a lot like this Beansie gentleman. He going to say the seat broke, never happened before or after. Oh did I mention he didn't have this famous PFD on, it was sitting on the floor. HTHM did you get to Jenny Craig over the winter, man what a beast of a man.
  18. Guys I've had the opportunity to travel the world in the last 40 years. We were never warned by our Governments where we should or shouldn't travel and I think it's sad. We always said act like a victim and you will be one. Cynicism is a earned attitude unfortunately. I've seen some, usually younger Canadian tourists play the role for some reason in the last 10 years or so and generally target themselves. They will throw around money in a club like water, remember some of the workers there won't earn in a month what we can spend in one night. Just be smart and all will be well. No, you don't venture around some neighborhoods here in Canada let alone out of country. I believe travelers today are more naïve then before. We always traveled in groups when we could. I've been to some pretty seedy places alone in this world and have only been robbed once, in London while at dinner, those B&B's aren't very secure, I forgot my fanny pack in the room, my fault I guess, so I was told by the constabulary in Surbiton. It's just my opinion, just like a holes everyone has one. Never been and not going back, you youngsters never heard that? All it means is I would never go to that place. Confused? Yes of course sometimes. Like I said have fun in México.
  19. Never been, not going back. I can say don't fish alone. I just read the travel advisory list of countries warning Canadian travelers, Mexico isn't where I'd go for a wedding. Looks like there really isn't anywhere we can go anymore and feel safe. It's sad. Including resorts. Be safe, be smart and have fun. Hopefully someone's been and can give you a few fishing tips.
  20. In all seriousness for a second, lemon juice. Simple. The acid in the juice breaks down the proteins of the fish slime. Most of the hand sanitizers out there mask the scent and the ones that work have an acidic base to them. Some outings I only wish I had fish smelling problems. It's the smell of victory. Unless the minnows have had rigor set in and left in the baitwell to ripen I've never found them to have any odor. Dead bait in the sun, that's a smell you don't want. I've forgotten where I am sometimes and after I've caught them, cleaned them, cooked them and served them I'm told to go and wash my hands I smell like fish, I guess so. The eatin part's easy peezy.
  21. If it is a legal rental unit you can always ask for maximum or what the market will bear. What do similar units in your area rent for? Never rent by the week. You are asking for party central and that's what you will get. Credit check, background check, and criminal clearance check for those by the minimum monthly. Include those costs in the rent. You wouldn't believe who's out there, maybe you do. Always best to have it rented by the season for less than deal with even a higher monthly. Just for administrative purposes alone. If it's not registered as a legal rental have this thread deleted. I'm done with property management, it's not for everyone, especially me. Had a triplex in Hamilton and it nearly killed me. We did a lakefront property exchange years ago for 3 weeks and it took me a month to clean the mess. The place we stayed at was great, the people that stayed here was who knows. The kids maybe. My neighbours were not too happy with that I can tell you.
  22. Take 3 lbs of pickerel, 2lbs of taters, homemade tartar sauce and some Cajun coating. What do you got??? Answer, My wife loosing it on me and reporting me to the cholesterol and diabetes police. I'm jealous and envious sir, enjoy.
  23. I have a brand new 5 year old or so frog still in the box. It was a gift and I use rods I've paid less for at yard sales. Actually pretty good rods. I would lose it if I lost that lure. So there it sits, appreciating in value.
  24. Now if it had ice capability now were talking! Cool anyway. A hundred grand at least.
