Will they buy me a Chevy?

Definitely a head turner. Nothing you can't customize yourself with a few 10,000 bills. For the soccer Mom that trains MMA.

I have a pal that has an early 90's Chrysler something Van, the ID badges fell off years ago. There isn;t any paint on the hood and 1st half of the roof. The sliding door is held closed with a bungee cord. The radio sits on the dash board with wires going under the dash. His shifter is a vice grip plier. His heater is a space heater and the defroster is a small fan. He has 4 different tires, 1 is usually a donut. You get the picture and I kid you not. Runs that Van from Hamilton to here about 40 miles each way once or twice a week. We hid it and he was going to report it stolen. Man. He tows trailers full of topsoil, firewood or bricks, a pop up camper, and a 70 something 16 foot fibreglass boat with a 60 horse the size of a house. I think your new Van will tow a boat.

My boat is sitting too high in the bow.

John I would say I need 100lbs if I want to troll unless it calm out here. It's hardly ever calm. I don't want to loose the kicker, good sense of peace of mind for me. My 115 is 21 years old now, runs like a Rolex but it's 21 years old. -
A great report. Some of those Buckets would be a PB for many a fisherman and you guys got 1 after another. You are a good freind to let 3 others fish from your 17'er. And let them bring 2 rods each!! That would be a ready made cluster jam for my pals on my 19 footer. All fun and games till someone looses an eye. I wish your buddy with the red and white ball cap had glasses on, hope he did. On my boat no glasses no fishing. Time for your other buds to get a boat? A fantastic opener you had, especially having Dad with you. One for the ages for sure.

Wilderness Outpost camp for sale - Maskinonge Lake
Old Ironmaker replied to Jds63's topic in General Discussion
Looking at the upside, for a few hundred thousand dollars less than the price of a small attached single family row house in TO that probably needs 100K in renos to get it up to modern standards that you may see on "Love it or List it" you get 1000 meters of waterfront and 10,000 sqft of under roof buildings. Some of those antique canoes alone will fetch a big buck. A waterfront camp that was formally The Salvation Army Summer Youth Camp (code name for gang bangers from Hamilton's court ordered summer place of residence) with only 100 feet of non boating waterfront, 20 acres on Erie here in Selkirk went for 2 million 10 years ago. Granted it is nice with pool and many modern outbuildings, complete with it's own obstacle course. They turned down 4 million recently I was told. I think if I read right this is in the Sudbury area. It is within easy driving distance of the GTA. The lake looks like a fishermans dream. The downside, 10,000 sqft of under roof buildings. You could drop a few hundred thousand into the place and not see it. A wind turbine to really get useable power would be 200K. For some 30 something I.T. millionaire it would be do able. Maybe if I was 30 and a spare 1.5 million sitting around. We should grab it guys and gals. 10,000 members is only $5.00 each to buy in. Then for the 10,000 of us to raise 2 million capital is only $200.00 each. Then we have a draw to see which 500 members get ownership a share in the LLC or share based corporation. I would spend $205.00 for a 1 in 10000 chance to own a piece of paradise totally renovated to the tune of 2 mil and off the grid. Think about it. It wouldn't be the first time this was done I'm sure. Please check my math. -
The only time we will troll below 2.5 is if pulling wormharneses. To slow down the troll kick her into neutral from time to time I have found it often triggers strikes when they see a change like a wounded bait fish would. Trolling into the wind will slow you too. I wouldn't sweat .3 MPH. GPS speed or transducer speed .3 MPH isn't much. I did much diving just a few years back, I have never seen any fish or bait fish swim at the same pace or direction ever for much distance.

I did put back the 2 deep cycle batteries back into the bow wells and it didn't do much at all in, about 100 lbs at least. I have 2 live wells up front that I do use and don't want to loose them. I don't fill them with water I freeze large pop bottles and put the fish under the frozen bottles. Works better than water or loose cubes especially when water temps reach mid 70's. I'm thinking about installing a section of Plexiglas maybe just 6" high across the top of the transom like the Walleye guys do for back trolling, maybe drill a few 1.5" holes to act as drains in case I get a rogue wave come up from behind if I'm dead in the water. I still don't like the drain holes in the transom being at or just below water level especially on Erie. Maybe I'm being paranoid when I don't need to be. But I have plucked guys out of the water during a storm twice in the last 10 years and heard of more. For sure I want to keep the kicker on. Many out here don't even troll with them they use them as a back up. I put the Motorguide back on it will still run but the controls don't work so straight ahead it will work. In 1/2 meter waves I could not troll above 2 miles per hour. 55lb thrust so that doesn't help me. I didn't know you need 3 deep calls on a Terova, they must be 36 volts, that's a lot of juice. Maybe it will be easier to move to a different lake LOL. I like the extending the height of the transom at the well 6". Easy to do and I have the Plexiglas. Any thoughts? -

They are the best, Fishing World and Grimsby tackle tied at #2 and 3. They have a good business during fishing season but it is a long winter and the bills keep coming in customers or no customers. I don't know if they are making any more than fair wages. Take into account the hours they put in I would venture a guess that they aren't blazing a trail to the saving account at the bank. I did a profit loss projection for a friend that wanted to open a bait and tackle shop in Cayuga that is on a good spot on The Grand River as the closest place to get bait is Caledonia, Nanticoke and Dunnville sometimes. Even owning the building it would be tough to break even. He would make more renting the property and is. At 5 bucks a scoop that's a lot of scoops to make a buck. Minnows might be abundant but by the time you get a tinny and put gas in it and pay a kid 12 bucks an hour plus Workers Comp. they sure aren't free as he thought they were.

Info needed on portable indoor air conditioners PLEASE
Old Ironmaker replied to mr blizzard's topic in General Discussion
Thinking about it with that plastic window "filler" it would be very easy to break in. But as they say if they want to get in they will any way they can. I definitely recommend Garrison and am sorry to hear about the fires and air quality. I watch CBC news regularly and haven't seen any of this on the tube. The last thing one would think is bad is the air quality up there in God's country, Hamilton and Toronto but not the NWT. -
I am very sorry to hear that. Yes there is always someone worse off but that is tough to come to terms with when we are talking about loved ones close to us and ourselves, it's just human nature. I have been blessed with better than 20/20, still to this day I occasionally need cheaters depending how my blood glucose levels are. My Dr. says I am her only patient that is on Insulin that doesn't need glasses at 60. I am blessed and appreciate it. My Noni went blind but that was over 35 years ago. They have come a long way in medicine and can actually cure some blind people today. What they can do know with eyes is amazing. My kid brother has worn glasses since he was 5 and had that Lasik surgery and doesn't wear them today, and that was about 20 years ago. You will be fine bud, I just know it.

One reason I buy from a Mom and Pop tackle shop is that the closest Sail or Bass Pro is at least 25 bucks in gas. What am I saving if I have to go back to the store for any reason? I go into Bills Bait and they know who I am and when I bought the rod. They even replaced a lure I bought somewhere else when the knot they tied for my Lead Core to flouro let go. I say that's service.

Netminder, if you think it's bad now you should have been around during the "Bob Ray days". You may have been a young boy then. Early 90's. What a fiasco that was. Unions voted him in and then he turned around and decimated the work force with Ray Days. Legislated companies as "Too large to fail" that allowed corporations to raid pension funds of working people then those same workers find out the pension funds are no longer there when it their time to retire. It's not as bad now that it has been, not to say it's good, there are many levels of terrible. I know there are folks on this site that lost portions of their pensions or lost all of it.

What a beautiful and handsome looking crew you have there my man. You have enough to put a team on the ice, the little one can play in goal. I wonder what O.P. thoughts are after getting some opinions? Looks like he is AWOL, maybe he's away building a cottage on the waters edge, I really hope so regardless of what my old bones say. Hey Rick, shot a 79 yesterday, too bad it was a par 65. -

I first saw these in England 12 years ago. We finally picked up a " Garrison" 5 years ago on sale for a few hundred bucks at CTC. It cools about 600 square feet in an area of southern exposure with a wall of windows. Don't ask me how but the condensate line comes with a plug in it and when I called Garrisons tech line to ask why there is no mention of running the line to the exterior they said leave it plugged and attached to the unit by a clip and do not run the line outside. Like I said I have no idea where the condensate goes but it has been 5 summers and it works just great. We don't have ductwork and I was going to use it temporarily until I installed one of those wall units but I don't need to spend a few grand because this works just great. Not the quietest but I would rather be comfy and turn up the volume on the stereo and TV. Set a temp and auto and good to go. It vents out the window and comes with a adjustable piece of plastic to fit any window size. It wouldn't work on a casement window. My only complaint if any is that I have to seal the plastic insert and vent to keep the rain and bugs out, that's the only complaint. The flex hose stretches about 5 feet max. so you will need the window near where the unit will be. When not in use just collapse the accordion hose and wheel the unit against the wall. Quieter than any window unit I have or had. I guess it all depends on the unit. I just looked at the thing and there is not a reservoir on the unit like a dehumidifier. The condensate must be forced out the discharge hose. That air coming out is not warm it is hot. It doesn't look like it is going to be used much if this weather keeps up down here, heck it might hit 70F this weekend. -
Never use steel wire brushes to clean BBQ grates
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
Thinking about what was reported I have never seen a BBQ brush with 1" long bristles. Maybe Hamilton (my hometown) has problems with cheap BBQ brushes because you can't swing a cat without hitting a dollar store. I'm still won't use one, haven't since I was told it will damage the grill surface. I'm not really Chicken Little, my Health and Safety background is probably showing. -
Irish that is a repair I have seen done for passenger airliners on Mayday if I recall correctly.
