  1. All maps are not created equal. The shipping channel outside of Nanticoke Harbour is so detailed it looks like Greek. Get outside of the shipping channels and lanes and the detail just isn't there anymore. The SD card that comes with all Garmin units are so much more detailed than my Navionics cards. Once you get into the Blue Zone (shallow waters) do not use the chart to navigate. If I am not 100% trusting of the electronic chart I get a proper recognized paper navigational chart. If you are stopped by the authorities and can't prove to them you are familiar with where you are by land marks it is law you have a hard copy navigation chart. I think it's outside 1 mile. GPS does no good without power to it.
  2. I have always wondered the same thing Brian. What self respecting fish would eat this ridiculous piece of painted wood or plastic when there is all this tasty fresh real stuff everywhere. Fish aren't the smartest species on the food chain.
  3. When nothing works try to remember what some oldtimer told you they used before you were born, like the tried and true Red Daredevil or 5 of Diamonds. I don't think it's even legal now but my trophy 24 lb. Northern out of Klotz Lake came on a whole dead Smelt.
  4. I never pegged Terry as the quiet one.
  5. I always confuse the 2. Nothing new.
  6. Can't help you there but congrats for sure. It must be an exiting time for you. There is nothing better info for a local lake that a jug of beer and some locals at the Legion won't get you. Join every service club in the area you can. And let them win at shuffle board and pool.
  7. Unreal. That is one tough lake. I used to watch the reality show about the house boaters, a real tuff bunch there 4 shoe. I'm not sure if they still film it. I think you said you know "Pike" Mike. The one guys daughter who is a model out of Vancouver is easy on the eyes too. I still haven't fully understood about living outside of our laws if you aren't moored to land. I know you have a link that will help. If there is a link somewhere to something, Dave has it.
  8. LW, you are going to fit right in here.
  9. Great video guys, yes Art would appreciate an edit or 2 or 10. We fished Perch the Thursday before your opener and had a bit of wind from the NE. That water is dead calm. We were planning on pushing our luck and go back this week but unfortunately my wife's Sis passed on Sunday in Newmarket. Actually a blessing, the woman had suffered enough over the last 3 years. I don't think the family would understand if I took the boat Thursday to he Funeral service, not to the funeral home of course I would leave it at the hotel for goodness sakes. So we will push our luck next week and now I'm thinking I should throw a downrigger in the truck and bring some Leadcore set ups and a few Dipsys and a box of spoons and stuff. The video is inspiring me. It's also nice to put a face and a few voices to the names after all these years. Which one of you lads did the narration?
  10. This is do able even for a novice. Cut the rivets off with a Dremill tool. I doubt you have a rivet gun so you may have to get someone to do this for you. Be prepared to dig out all the floation foam, if the floor is spongy the foam is more than likely water logged now and must be replaced. The best advice I can give is to join the iboats.com forum and ask there. Many experts more than happy to give great advice right down to what proper materials, tools to use and proper procedure and tips. They want plenty of pictures as you go along.
  11. A cottage full of citiots can do huge damage to a vacation home. A few years ago we had a friend house sitting with her friend and their 5 kids and friends found out later 10 total. I had to call a plumber in to snake the drain to the septic the first day. Then somehow they left the hose on overnight, drained the cistern and burned out a new pump, had to pay a plumber to replace it, call in for a load of water, huge money that would have taken me a few hours, maybe. I just wanted to tell them to go home after the first service call, never again, and these were friends. It sure didn't make for a great vacation for us, actually stressful. Every time the phone rang I cringed. It cost me $1000.00. When I realized those kids they used some of my rods and reels and were into some of my tackle I lost it on my poor wife. Other than letting very young kids use my tackle, that wasn't right but 2 women from the city most likely think fishing equipment are toys. The rest was just inexperience. What made me upset I went through the entire place and stressed about putting toilet paper and stuff down the toilet. Even explained if that pump ran for more than 5 minutes to throw the switch that I marked in RED. Of course get the call during breakfast and she says there isn't any water coming out of the taps. Only been running for 1/2 hour then smelled something strange so she shut off the pump. Good girl, at least the place didn't burn down. We packed in my once in a lifetime Musky trip 3 days early that my wife got me for my 60th. Never ever, ever, ever again.
  12. Yes that's was the point I got disappointed as well. I hear what TomCat is saying about over the top. Just like in Boondock Saints when the Willem Defoe character had a nervous breakdown on the front lawn. Almost ruined the entire flick for me. I will watch it once and a while and stop it there.
  13. Yes I do and there isn't enough data storage on OFC to hold it all. If it's to make a few bucks i.e. 2 weeks don't bother, For 2 to 4 months yes. Why only 2 weeks? You know you need to have paperwork up the ying yang to rent anything you own legally and to keep your liability insurance valid. Just call you Insurance provider, not broker, and ask if you can rent your property out. You might change your mind real quick. Mine told me my property and liability insurance would triple because of the water access alone, 1 week or 1 year no difference. That was enough for me to not ask anymore questions. But that was 20 years ago. Call them first before you start thinking what to do with all that money. Of course I could have just rented it out and with my luck back then the freeking place would have slid into the lake. The question you have to ask yourself is would you let someone you don't know from Adam stay in what is probably the second highest monetary investment you have for a few bucks. Credit ratings today aren't worth much these days, easily faked, and just because someone does have a good credit rating doesn't mean they aren't pigs and live like slobs. I had more than a few properties I rented in the 90's and still have bad dreams 25 years latter.
  14. It is what it is. Actually my brother just picked up a nice (looking) Audi TT. The Nissan will blow it away and I bet Geoff's new Chevy will too .
  15. I bought an Audi 5000 new in 79'. 14 or 16 K off the lot, a long time ago. 5 cylinder. The problem was I paid for that car twice by the time I paid for all the repairs to keep it on the road. Starters, alternators, 3 timing belts, thrown rods because of blown timing belt, cracked frame at 50,000 miles, CV joints go like clockwork. I am sure Audi has improved by now. They use A8's as taxi cabs in Europe, there they are just another car. Smart arse comment deleted, not a good day for button pushing.
  16. If you don't have on board drainage do not take a hose to it for sure. Another thing I'm going to ask "would you take a hose to a vinyl or ceramic floor in your house?", why not? They are waterproof, the wood below it isn't. What's the difference?
  17. I have to ask. Would you take a hose to the carpet in your car or truck? I didn't think so. Other things like fuse boxes, relays, VHF radios and the like may get some collateral damage. Vinyl floor or not. A bit of rain, even a downpour is usually vertical only, a wave over the bow is rare. I put a towel on the 6' wide gunnel when fishing out minnows under the bucket I empty before coming on board my DRY boat. I admit I might have a problem.
  18. I don't know why one would be able to hand break anything 8lb by hand. I know mono will rot sitting on a spool after a few years even stored in the dark. After a few years extra line in any spool other than braid, flouro leader and Leadcore here is deep sixed. I have seen 30 pound Big Game break by hand after sitting in the sun. Usually especially when stored on the spool in a rod holder left in the Sun. Pulled off a few yards and it would cut your hands before it would ever break. I'm thinking flouro may have the same characteristics sitting in the Sunlight. Mono gets furry too and is NFG then.
  19. Shots anyone can get now that would cost thousands to rent a chopper to get just a few years back. My brother got one for XMAS and after reading the new guidelines I forward to him from here he says there isn't anywhere he can legally and safely fly it. There is an airfield behind his place up north and 2 neighbours have float planes. He was so looking forward to try it out besides in the house chasing his dogs around this weekend at the cottage. What's a hobbyist with too much $$ to do? More please Simon. edit: have you figured out how to harness Jack to it yet?
  20. 3rd out of 22 teams. Better than not bad especially on water you never fished. Are you kidding me? Fantastico. You are a lot better looking than I pictured, James, then I saw the next photo. How did the new boat handle? Ant tips for Pike from you now?
  21. Of course I could have, experience is a lifetime of mistakes.
  22. It is crazy stupid as you Millennials would say about the speed and power family cars have now with these little 4 and 6 bangers. My wifes 4 door "family car" is close to 300HP with a 6 speed gearbox. It is just as fast off the line tham my 76' Corvette Stingray is. 350CI, 4 speed automatic, 240 HP. Ridiculous. We used to call your family car a sleeper.
  23. My next door neighbour bought his new then 2011 F-150, similar to Wormdunkers. I was impressed even thought it was a Ferd. I went to see the dealer he bought his from for a price I liked it so well. Nice interior and a lot of bling, 22 Grand more than I paid 22 grand for some chromed plastic and plastic wood is crazy. GM gave me $3500.00 to retire my 88' Sierra with over 600KMs on it that was worth scrap price plus the newer battery, which they let me take out. Add that to %10,000.00 cash incentive and $2500.00 scratch and win and I'm under 30 grand than the 52 grand Ferd. And he has had nothing but problems including a scored cylinder that happened outside his warrantee date. He had a hell of a time keeping air in the tires because of the not round alloy wheels which he eventually had changed under warranty but Ford put on much cheaper steel wheels and zero cash allowance. Some silly stuff like the plastic wood popping off.
  24. I don't let it rain in my boat. I won't golf in the rain and I no longer fish in the rain. Not a wuss issue but more of a health issue.
  25. I always say Art must evoke an emotion from those the Artist is trying to reach. Depression and angst are not nice positive emotions most movies try and get from the audience like cute Disney flick. The actor pulled those emotions out of the audience, thus an award from his piers recognizing his Art. I popped La La Land in at 9, I notice it is over and my wife is sound asleep, must have provoked an artistic emotion, like boredom.
