Beieve it or not to rent a boat in Ontario at least no boaters card required. A few minute tutorial is all that's required. There just too many great places to stay in Ontario to even start making suggestions. Before anyone can start to list places the most important thing one would need to know is your budget. No sence suggesting a 5 Star resort with an American plan when your budget is less than 200 bucks a night. Heck cheap motel room is over $100.00 a night now 4 hours from Toronto.

I understand the technology is out there where all government info from Feds to Provinces can all be on 1 card. Birth Certificate to drivers licence including fish and game licenses. I understand they want OHIP information kept very private because of fraud , only medical personnel are suppose to take it never for picture I.D. One card, too simple to work? I see 1 card in the future for everything including government info plus non gov. things like bank and credit accounts.

Did I mess up with line selection?
Old Ironmaker replied to redpearl99's topic in General Discussion
You will be fine, no need to toss it. If you want strip it then use it for back up on other reels. Easy to remove and reuse using a drill and drill bit. I never run anything stronger than 30# anything. 30# Big Game mono on my Dipsy and downrigger rods with another 20 feet of 15 pound flouro. Same with braid for Bass set ups and another 8 to 10 feet of flouro leader. I never expect to reel in any of the fish I go for that come close to 30#'s. If you are fighting a fish right I think the rod and reel have more to do with not breaking line that the line test anyway. I've brought in several fish in the 20's from Carp to Bat Rays on 8# mono before the super lines came out. I've never found the challenge fishing for 3 to 5 pound Largemouth with 25# or more test, less frustrating when hung up in slop with a heavy line yes, of course. -
Thanks very much CRUD. I am going through my boxes today and find those colours. I know I have them. My go to for Lake Erie and Lake O salmon and bows is the bright orange J-9 Rappala. I am going to try some spoons used exclusively on the west side of Long Point on Erie. Monkey Puke is a good one as well as Pink Panties and the Greasy Chicken.

I couldn't watch a minute of this kid speed talking. It sure sounds like he is cranked up on some kind of narcotic. Even the music is at break neck speeds. It is amazing what you can find off piers and spots people cast into. Never use bare hands to pick up lures from the bottom of the drink. Nothing like a nice rusty hook imbedded in it. He wore gloves sometimes.

Glow Spoons - Gimmick or beneficial?
Old Ironmaker replied to PickerelHunter's topic in General Discussion
Bought a huge swim bait in Florida that lit up when you jerked it. Come to find out it wasn't fluorescent, it had a battery. Wall hanger now. It sure worked in Florida, everything hammered it including Pelicans. -
I was sick and tired of putting my expensive gas grills back together after on shore winds would blow it off the deck during a storm. The NG hose stopped it from going next door. So I picked up a unit from a liquidator in Brantford for less than 150 bucks. It works just fine and isn't moving now that I drove 6" lag screws into the 2X6's on the deck. Should have done that years ago. Watched a guy that has a grilling show yesterday on The Food Channel, of course I forget his name, Rick something. Wow that is a machine. Looks like a giant Bee Hive and is covered with small ceramic tiles top to bottom, and it's huge. Smoker/wood/charcoal/gas with spit. He has another that has spit that has a wheel that raises and lowers the spit to where you want over the heat.

Rather than spice them the way you like please try Montreal Steak Spice for all your veggies and meats. It is our house "spice". We use that s^%* on everything as the hot sauce lady says. Don't add any salt or anything, it's all in there and all perfectly balanced. Just try it once, please. I have a non stick BBQ tray with holes in it with high sides that is supposed to be a fish BBQ pan. That's what I use for the BBQ veggie stir fry. I don't put the soft veggies like mushrooms, zucchini and eggplant until the harder vegs like carrots and potatoes start to get fork soft. I just give it wash with a soft cloth and dish soap. It is seasoned now like a Wok. The goat cheese which my wife loves is going in a bowl covered like you suggest tomorrow, great idea. If it wasn't so late the Q would be fired up now.

Some Work I Spent My Winter Doing

That Lexan is amazing stuff, is it expensive Dave? I just picked up a 72' Vespa, would it look amazing done in Lexan or what? I would pick one of the more than 20 Ferrari reds. Looking for a second scooter or replace my old Harley. My lady just got her bike licence at the age of 52. I'm so proud of her. Once she gets on a real bike she may reconsider a Honda 50. Then I don't have to ride down the lakeshore incognito! -
Electric Motor Canoe Set Ups - What's yours look like?

If you guys are ever to screw or glue into anything and want it to stay there use 3M4200, if you never want it to come out use 3M 5200. -
We used to snorkel a lot, not much as of late, like 10 years. We could come up with a $100.00 worth of stuff retail every dive in the right place. Our favorite spot was Burleigh Falls. We would sell them back for a buck each depending on the lure. Free for jigs.

What Are Some Good Frog Hunting Locations In WMU82?
Old Ironmaker replied to Huck764's topic in General Discussion
Where Huck lives when you get a divorce you still love your ex no matter what. Because your sista is still ya sista. Please don't leave the site dear Huck. I need a good laugh once and a while. As far as frogs they sure taste good, just the legs not the cheeks. -
And I get upset when I loose a hat in the wind that I got in a box of beer 10 years ago!

Electric Motor Canoe Set Ups - What's yours look like?

All nice set ups. I really like the rod holders Smithy. Amazing what one can do with some plumbing piping. Lucas I told you that I grew up in the same story and a half style home in Hammertown when you showed pics when you did a reno a few years ago. They must have built a few thousand on the mountain and the east end at the end of WW2. Not too top heavy with the seats in the canoe Lucas? How's the new place? -
NF Trent Lakes Waste Management ...getting ridiculous

That makes sence Cliff because they won't take the thin black plastic/cellulous containers that plants come in and there are plenty this time of year. So why don't they make all plastic everything clear? Stupid question I guess. -
My first face thing, by mistake.

Thanks Crud. I left a post on your thread too. I am heading there Sunday with the boat wind or no wind. I am going to feel like a dolt if I don't and conditions change. What do you fish for there CRUD 150 if I may ask, not looking for spots or tips. I have never wet a lure in Huron or Georgian Bay in 30 years.

Sorry to hear the no fish report. I hear you about the nets. We battle dodging commercial nets all summer here on Erie in the prime fishing spots. Watching them unload tons of sportsfish on the docks make me want to cry, and this is all legal. In 1 single net I see more incidental catches of very big Smallies and even Pike in the Walleye nets than I can catch and release in 5 years here. Some Bass would be my personal best. Just tragic. Heading up there Sunday afternoon. Winds don't look great but I might as well bring the boat. Wind and weather reports change from day to day. Better luck next time Crud. By the way what were you fishing for?

Electric Motor Canoe Set Ups - What's yours look like?

My buddy had a nice 18' Sportpal with a flat transom. He did try a 30LB electric but it wasn't enough to move the bigger canoe well and found himself in full throttle too much which killed the 12V too quickly. He went to a 55lb Motorguide and even though 24V the batteries would last longer with the 2 of us at around 440 lbs total weight plus stuff including an extra 100 pound battery. The batteries lasted longer than my knees and back. If you are going to do this go with more thrust than 30 for sure. And I would take the construction hints from the guy in the video with a grain of salt. I had to laugh when he said the wood only gets wet when he uses the canoe so no wood treatment necessary. Then he says use washers if you want. OK, just bring an adjustable. I always spend the few bucks extra for stainless hardware when it comes to the boat. Nothing more frustrating tome than to see a nice job and rusting hardware. Trex decking cut to size might be something to use rather than lumber. 2 pieces of Trex laminated together would be very stable and look clean. I think they are 1/2" or 5/4 thick. -
^ that is just silly. How in the Lords name can someone troll that from a 100' Yacht? Besides that no self respecting fish would eat it. The most expensive single lure would be the Live Target jointed perch I paid 20 bucks for. I don't know if it's any good because there is no way I am going to chance on loosing it so it never leaves my place. I probably have a grand worth of stuff that has never been wet. It's like Xmas every spring when I dig into the corners of my closet and find bags of stuff I bought sometime over the cold winter. I'm sure it's the same for my wife with shoes and clothes I bet.

I still owned property in Hamilton when they went to the Green bins and new recycle program. Being an old non paradigm shifting guy I couldn't understand it, now I do. There is a toxic waste site at the top of Centennial Parkway behing the CHCH TV tower. Hundred of trucks a day in the 90's were coming in from Michigan with material that wasn't what was supposed to cross the border let alone dumped. Friends lived in a McMansion on the brow right across the road of it. When it was operational everyone in the home and neighbourhood got sick and they sold at a huge loss. The technology is available so that millions of tones of waste can be diverted from landfills to treatment facilities that don't exist in Ontario. That is something I can get behind but I hear nothing from our Province pushing it. County to county the "can recycle, can't recycle" is astonishing to me. -
Thanks Mike. 10 or so knee operations ago that would be the plan, not anymore. Wading into the Hot Tub is an adventure now.

Probably.

I guess buddy got into town today and asked around about Colpoy's Bay, or is it Colpoy? From what he remembers they were referring to Magnuson's Mansion. Does that mean anything to anyone. He isn't PC friendly and called to ask me to Google it. Nothing came up. He thought all you have to do is Google anything and the answer magically appear. Someone once gave him a laptop. He called me to ask if when I was in the city could I stop by. I went over and asked him what's up? He said "show me how to use this thing". He thought I could teach him in an hour or so, bless his soul.
