  1. I was told by locals that's supposed to be a secret. No I wouldn't eat or even handle a fish from that water. I wouldn't eat a fish from the western basin of Lake O either. I tried a Rainbow and Salmon we caught and threw the rest all away, they were disgusting, that was mid 80's. I know what we put in there over the years, Randle Reef is one of the hottest spots of contaminants, a virtual cornucopia of carcinogens, highest PPM of polluted waters in North America and just around the corner from Williams Cafe. DO NOT EAT FISH FROM THE BAY, please.
  2. don't know why I thought you were putting away your pool toy. I hear you on the terminal tackle, I too would use a split shot to get light tackle down a bit. I have to get away from this longlining for Walters out here and get some real fishin' in for Bass from this point on. You can hook into some monster Smallies this time of year until the wind will peel the paint off the boat. Today the waves crashing on the rocks are spewing algae on our window screens and that is zero embelfisharia. (Italo Canadian for lying.)
  3. Thank you all for your kind thoughts I have passed them on to his Family and friends. We raised $6800.00 on Saturdays John and Fay Beird's Annual Labour Day Invitational Golf Tournament Fundraiser try getting that on a trophy. We raised it for a close friend amongst our Lakeshore crew that was recently diagnosed with stage 3 throat cancer. There is most likely some pics on their Face Book page. Thank you again guys.
  4. Aren't those Toonies insulated? Maybe time to invest in insulated underwear. What a woose is right. I read you are putting it away for the year, how do you winterize one? Maybe fill with warm air. There's plenty of hot air around here Brudder. I sell it by the cubic meter. You had a great season and get out more in a few weeks that some of us get out on our real fishing boats all year. Way to go Brian. By the way I like that spinner but why so large a snap swivel? I have always tried to minimize my terminal tackle as much as possible. I still have a spare pair of 1 size fits most US Divers Rocket fins if you want them.
  5. Simon says "Catch the fish." Simon says "Film the fish." Simon says "Eat your hearts out."
  6. I have gotten all my Pics on Stoney in waters 6 to 15 feet deep. So you should fish the water from 6 to 50 feet and you should be good to go.
  7. Exactly jimmer,if anyone thinks electric vehicles will be less expensive to operate is woefully naïve.
  8. Yes it was but it was Ronnie and his Irish buddy Brian that started the ball rolling 7 years earlier. 7 years to negotiate it and it's going to be renegotiate in a few months? Nope.
  9. Thanks guys. This is a special weekend for us here at the lake. This will be our 12th annual golf tourney/fundraiser. The first few years we would raise funds for a few different charities and then we decided there were enough locals that were going through tough times because of serious illness. So 100% of the money we raise is given to that individual whom is battling a serious disease. Some are thank goodness still with us, many are not. Being sick is expensive. Parking alone in Hamilton at the hospitals can be up to $140.00 a week, that is insane. Stouter came each and every year to our event, in fact I met him 11 years ago when we were teamed together for the golf scramble. What a hoot we had. Comparing scars on our bodies. He was a guy that always had a smile on his face and every other sentence he had a chuckle no one will forget. I just came back helping to set up the venue and stage for the band. It just won't be the same without Stout and it was a sombre day today. Someone said if Stouter knew we were not having a great time he'd be kicking our arses. By the way yesterday we estimated we have raised over $60,000.00 for folks or relatives of our Lakeshore crew here in the last 10 years. Something to think about if anyone is having a fundraiser, maybe 20 cents, maybe, of each dollar raised for the big charities go to those that need help. Some of those CEO's make millions a year.
  10. Most of the "real" lumber yards like Turkstra's will give you the list of materials needed within code if you give them a description and rough drawing of the deck. The big box guys may as well. If that deck has egress from a building a permit is required per the Ont. Building Code, no matter the size. I would get a permit for sure for a deck 8 feet high, I'm sure you are. I've seen the aftermath of what looked to be well built deck after it collapsed a few years at a fishing camp in NY, fire rescue ambulances and all. I can't count how many decks we have built in the last 40 years. As Mike says " Do it right". Home Hardware has a nice railing system for around 10 bucks a linear foot, I just ordered one. PT and vinyl clad spindles, low maintenance and nice and easy to install.
  11. Stouter was a great guy. He had both hips replaced a few years back and wasn't able to ride his Heritage yet he told me just a few weeks ago. I guess he was able to yesterday. The story is that he just went off the road, no collision with another vehicle. He may have suffered a medical incident, we don't know. He was supposed to come to our annual Golf tourney fund raiser tomorrow. I just hope he wasn't laying in that field in pain waiting to die alone. Life sucks sometimes. Please be careful out there everyone, please. http://www.simcoereformer.ca/2017/08/31/motorcyclist-killed-in-crash-near-selkirk
  12. When gas prices go up gas prices go up. What I mean to say is that all those 18 wheelers chugging up and down our local 80K highway going to and coming from the Nanticoke refinery have increases to their costs to transport our Canadian refined fuel. The long arm of world oil prices has a domino effect. It's not fake or false news. I have to note most of the trucks carrying the juice are northern US state trucking companies.
  13. I can see 5K for 700 ft2 deck. That's $7.14 a square foot. I bought some HH 2X6 PT the other day they are %1.10 a linear foot alone and 6X6's are 3 something a foot. It adds up.
  14. The water has been abnormally high this year, I wouldn't call it floods, Houston has floods. Water height scattered the fish here on Erie as well as the Grand River, water temps were normal. I didn't fish the river in the spring, too much debris flying down it. 1st time in 21 years that I couldn't see Smallies spawning near our shoreline. Wind was a factor too. But the Walleye are on fire for the last month or more. Limits this year are normal if you have an idea how to get them.
  15. They built a new pier and boat launch about 15 years ago as well did some work around the park, a nice spot for shore fisherman, many still fish there.
  16. No one is going to give you their hot spot on this or most any fishing forums. It's actually discouraged. Maybe someone will PM you. I would ask someone where you are staying.
  17. No it's not a bush cord, sorry. It's all slab hardwood though from a local mill. it's packed tight so more than a face cord but no bush cord.
  18. Here is the same old question, put small machines away full or MT? I put all the small gas engines away MT. Boat tank I fill max with V power and add 2+4 or Stabil.
  19. The only public access to the river at Dunnville is on the bridge. All sides are privately owned, one a condo parking lot and the other is the Grand River BBQ and marina. Upstream is private property also, one is a water plant and on the south side is a private residence. I knew it would happen because idiots leave a mess. I see folks leaning over the railing to their waists holding rods. Maybe the bridge is closed for public safety. Down stream is all private property or Gov. owned up until the nice park and ramp at Pt. Maitland. Most of the Grand is private property, there are a few public parks to fish from or wade the river. Other than some big Cats in spring it's not a hot spot river in my opinion. Where did you hear this John?
  20. You are old eh" Cliff. I use that one all the time.
  21. Houston Mayor announces " Our entire city is under water !" Area effected by flooding is greater than Katrina and Sandy in NY. Thousands still stranded, yesterday he said he hoped it was only hundreds stranded. Many say " Thank the Lord deaths tolls haven't been greater", I say who sent the hurricanes in the first place? God works in mysterious ways for sure. I am a believer by the way.
  22. What constitutes a bush cord guys?
  23. Are you serious, I better get into the wood business up there.
  24. I know nada about snow blowers but Seafoam isn't really a treatment for phase separation in gas. It's more of a tune up in a can and the jury is still out. For any of my smaller gas powered machines and including the boat I always use the hi octane fuel like V Power and will add 2+4 gas treatment when storing over the winter.
  25. Look at sailflow.com or windfinder.com. They are my go to wind forecasts.
