what the heck is this? Seen this fishing this weekend
Old Ironmaker replied to tb4me's topic in General Discussion
It could be one of many things. I can tell you without a doubt that it made of Valerian steel and a few composite materials not of this world. Other than that I don't have a clue what I am looking at. The second pick looks like a giant aliens skull. -

Toyota has always been a great manufacturer. Dad had a early 70's Corolla, he drove it in and out of the plant everyday. If he was on nights I drove it to school, once it was in the driveway I drove it. I got it in grade 11 for a good price. When I git my own car my brother bought it, he sold it to the youngest brother a few years latter. We kicked the bejeezus out that thing, you just couldn't kill it. I looked at a new Tundra when I bought the Chevy 4x4. It was 20 grand more, that's a big chunk of change. I think they can afford to throw a few freebees in at the dealership. We complain about the bad service guys. I highly recommend Mike, Tyson and the crew at CALEDONIA TIRE on Argyle St. in Caledonia Ont. 10 years now and I have never had a single issue with them. My wife's 07' Nissan Altima just turned 330,000 KMS. It runs and looks like a 2 year old car, they have serviced it since it since 08'. I was always waiting for the other shoe to drop when dealing with shops. I have never done my own work. I leave it to the experts. Every time in the last 45 years of destroying nice vehicles in my experience it's "Pay me now, or pay me latter." It seemed I would find a good place and the next thing I knew I was getting the shaft, or a wire repaired on an alternator and they paint my old one and charge me for a rebuilt for only 1 example. If you are in our area or south Hamilton give Caledonia Tire a try. I think they have a shuttle service now for Hamilton.

Open weapon carry law in Missouri.
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
Just to set the record straight. I never felt unsafe there nor do I ever feel unsafe when I travel, well maybe once in Russia. We had a place in south Florida when the Cocaine wars were on. What I wanted to comment on was how strange it felt walking around in a public place and seeing men walking around with side arms and in 2 cases a semi-automatic weapon slung over their shoulders. People still walk Fifi in the parks. It's not a police state or in the middle of the hood. According to Michael Moore during his film Bowling for Columbine Canadians have far more fire arms per capita than Americans, and they are the guns registered. I would double that number, not everyone handed in their guns nor do they register all the new ones with the serial numbers missing. -
To me canned salmon smells like cat food so I won't eat it. I don't know exactly what cat food tastes like but I have an idea.

Raw Moose muscle put into jars and boiled doesn't sound too appetizing. I have to ask what does it taste like? I know you think it's good but what can you compare it to?

I too got sucked into the GM dealership service when I bought my first ever new vehicle. It didn't last long. A nice place to wait an hour and a half for an oil change. Free WIFI and soy cappuccino Americano latte aqua chiutto. 5 service persons and 5 big screen TV's showing where in the que you are. I went in there when I saw some rust after 2 months. The autobody manager begrudgingly got on the ground to look under the truck. He was dressed like he owned the place, dress shoes and slacks and all. What a joke. I hope my comment doesn't contain any innuendo or misinformation.

My wife puts on 26,000 KMS a year commuting to work. Plus what she drives on days off. Want to sell your Jeep? But I hear you, Dad bought a new Camry and drove it for almost 2 years before they took away his license. We took it back to the dealer and it had 6,000 K's on it. We almost got what he paid for it actually. Impressed by Toyota.

Anybody know of any boat trailer repair shops ?
Old Ironmaker replied to buick14's topic in General Discussion
He lives in T.O. area. I might contact Mishka Trailers in Hamilton. An old pal owns it, they do great work. After all from Toronto it is only a 45 minute drive, or on some days 2 hours and 45 minutes. -

Flew into Buffalo today from St. Louis. By the way the seats were more than double from T.O. I didn't get the details but just last night a Police Officer was shot and killed during a routine traffic stop near St. Louis. I choose to live in a shack in Dunnville over a McMansion down there. When the Family has d a place in south Fla. when I was in my 30's I was told you made sure you had milk and bread for the morning because once it got dark out a smart person just didn't venture far from home. It didn't stop me and I felt very safe but it wasn't the smartest thing to do according to some locals. We are always more than happy to get back to over taxed, over priced, over everything Ontario when ever we travel. -

I have seen Dunnville change in the last few years. You can judge a place by their real estate sales. Places have doubled or more in the last year, a place may sell within 3 days for above asking. Yes the same is happening all around the GTHNA but I would never have thought that would happen in old grungy grimy Dummyville. The same thing in Cayuga is happening. Many are choosing to retire there. It's right on the river and 10 minutes from Erie by water, both hunting and fishing are still great. They are starting construction on a new Market and waterfront park by the bridge. We would have never, ever considered moving there but we would now. It was a cesspool of crack heads 10 years ago for sure. You know what they used to say about people from Dunnville, they all have 9 teeth and 6 are in their pocket. Or, they can eat corn on the cob through a picket fence. In Dunnville when you get divorced you still love your ex because after all, your sister is still your sister. -
The synthetic oil is the cost of a regular oil change, but it lasts 13,000 KMS. Your 5K oil filter is good for double that I'm told.

Man, I'm not arguing with you, I'm talking about others arguing on any thread.

Can I catch a Coaster from the beach?
Old Ironmaker replied to B. Jarvinen's topic in General Discussion
What's a coaster? Welcome aboard by the way. A hint, not the best way to join a fishing forum by asking where to catch a fish with your first post. Good luck. -
A few olives in oil has about the same calories as a Big Mac. Beware chubby.

Well I lost 500 USD on the boat but my wife won 600 bucks. So I'm down 500 and she's going shopping tomorrow. Our sis is lobbying us to move there. No way, no how. They report shootings here on the news like we report the local weather. I'll just stay home in expensive, over taxed, no gun protection boring old Ontario. I actually can't wait until we get home to tell you the truth. And we could live very well on my meager Canadian dollar pension. A 4 bed 2 bath home with a pool in the burbs is around 250 CDN. I thought south Florida was bad at dark when we were had a place there 20 years ago. -
We are down to sis in laws in St. Louis. The strangest thing I have seen for a very long time is the number of people openly carrying guns on them in public places, grocery stores to restaurants. We were out on the town last night and saw a man with an AR 15 slung over his shoulder walking his dog. Just strange for us to see. It really frightened my wife to see this. It's the way it is. Off to a Riverboat Casino cruise. Should be fun, if I don't loose my shirt. This is just an observation in the cultural differences we have from some US places, no need to become political in any way.

Is it such a secret you need to PM answers? Share your expertise with us. There are going to be scammers in each and every business out there, the auto service industry isn't the only one. We all remember the bad service but don't remember the good ones.

Ti Cats down by 59 points in 4th quareter.
Old Ironmaker replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
I'm down in Missouri for the weekend, picked up the end of the game on the TV. Even down here they can't win for losing. I can't bring myself to watch CFL this year. I don't recognize but a few names on each team. QB's are the only constant, same guys different teams every 2 years. Not good to develop a solid fan base. Once the NFL cuts start the revolving door is going to need a grease job. Dave, can you name 10 players on the Cats, without looking? And by the way, leave all my trophy farm animals alone, none in Lake O? -
They have few more lawyers than we do Bill, they win. Buddy next door has his motor blow on his mid life crissis Camaro 6 months new. He had to fight to get them to honor the warranty. They claimed he didn't break it in right, on board computer showed high RPM's before 10,000 km or some stupid thing.

Am I ever happy we are away. Then again I love watching a storm over the lake. I have seen the water picked up and tossed 500 yards away parallel along the shore right out front followed by a water spout. Fishing boats tossed about like corks in the Fall that had to be rescued by The Coast Guard Hero's from Dover. When the BBQ goes flying by the window 5 feet in the air stay away from the window stupid. When people say it was windy they don't know what windy is and I worked on the Hamilton docks in the winter. If you stand towards the wind there isn't any air to breath. I have found our patio table 10' feet up a tree 20' feet away. Zebra mussels on the cars 200' feet from the water.

I sure hope some employee at the park doesn't get the bright idea to copy his itinerary then leak it like a lowly disgruntled White House staffer.
