Wind-driven Wildfires in the North Bay
Old Ironmaker replied to mbenson898's topic in General Discussion
Geography is not a priority to not just Yanks but us Canucks as well. Many of my well educated relatives down south couldn't point out California on a map let alone anywhere in Europe. Most haven't left the state they were born in other than to visit here. I invited all to an Open House in Hamilton last spring for Dad's 90th. More than a few were turned back at the border because they didn't have a passport. What's it been since one is required, 2001? -

Yep, Ontario California not Canada. Pacific Gas and Electric doesn't sell utilities here in Ontario. -
Man, fantastic fishing. I was told they are the fish of 1000 casts, not. Your son was a ringer for the Yanks.

A few years ago I was told it was a secret. The secret is out I guess. Guess who told me it was a secret?

Art, just as I thought, you are an Alien.

That is fantastic news Dan. I hope all goes well. I have to tell you guys I am very thankful this year. I lost over 35 pounds from January to August. I did not diet, no appetite. I finally went to my Doc after I lost 40lbs. I went from 212 to 170, I don't remember 170, grade 10 maybe. 2CT scans with the dye thing, 2 MRI's, Ultra Sound, many blood tests. Tuesday he tells me NO CANCER. A bile duct and thyroid problem No big deal. I am thankful. But none of my cloths fit. I gained back 10 last month, the first time in my life the Doc said gain 15 pounds!!!!

I use it for sore joints, it works. A pal of mine and I were fishing off the lift bridge pier in Hamilton. He pulls out his pecker and pees in the water, he says "That's what I use for fish attractor." I pull mine out and tell him, "Man is that water ever cold."

In front of you at least, don't you remember when you were 17. My 15 year old girlfriends parents wanted to adopt me, 9 months later they wanted to put me in prison, and I should have been locked up.

Dave, depending on the year your Merc there is a good chance the main components of your Merc is actually a Yamaha/Merc hybrid. My 115 HP Mariner is a Merc/Yamaha hybrid. As is my 15HP Merc kicker.

Jason Aldean is a singer songwriter, he has everything to do with Tom Petty.

My 115 Mariner has a chain, it is a Yamaha/Merc hybrid. I suggest you go to iboats.com, join at zero charge and you have thousands of years experience at your finger tips. If the folks there don't have the right answer the near does not excist.

I just Googled your rig and watched a You Tube video, man that is more of a 14' boat than the toonie that I imagined it was. Nice ride and great exercise to boot.

I can't seem to edit. A good rule of thumb I have used in these 63 years is I have to question whether something is legal or not it's a good idea to not go forward with whatever you were going to do.

That was the point I poorly made late last night. I could have been more welcoming I imagine for the guys 1st post. And I admit I came across as a bit of a Jack Ass. I was a tad antsy as I sat here late last night listening to branches and rather large twigs bouncing off the roof. I checked a local weather buoy and at 1 AM winds were clocked at 77KPH, I would guess more like 90. I am replacing some 2X6 deck boards and removed the lag screws holding our BBQ down. Just yesterday I decided to screw them back in, lucky I did. I was playing catch the patio furniture. My wife woke this AM to find her kitchen full of leafs. Sorry Canoe and welcome to OFC. Why not give us a bit of a bio, where you fish, favorite fish to catch etc. A thick skin is required here on occasion.

Being a dual citizen I get to have 2 Thanksgivings too. Nothing like going north this time of year if only to see the magnificent colors. Not many colours around here this year. I was told we may not get a change because of that crazy Indian Summer we had a week and a half ago. Happy Thanksgiving to you Tennessee and to all our friends here on OFC.

Very nice Dave. I like that Hardy board and the river rock will really set it off nicely. You should be a pro designer to add to your CVR. We too can't have a big enough bathroom and shower. I turned a 8.5'X 16' bedroom into a bathroom and 4'X8' laundry room. No tub, but it is roughed in for the next owners. I can count on 1 hand how many times we filled the tub where we lived before we moved to the lake. Yes there are days I wish I could soak this old tired body but we decided to put a Spa on the deck instead. That was 17 years ago, still no Spa and I was in the business???? The shower is 4'X6', should have made it bigger.

Dave that Hardy board shingles sure sets the gable end off nice, really nice. Plus the stuff is like ballistic armour plate. What are you going to use for the siding? A neighbour tore down an old cottage lakeside and built new and used the Hardy board siding set vertically and did the gable ends in the shingles very similar to yours. We love the look of the board and siding vertically rather than horizontally. Nothing but a Hurricane will damage it, then it's maybe a Hurricane.

If Hammertown is anything like here 45 minutes south on Erie this AM I may not venture out in a Ore Freighter let alone a Kayak. Winds earlier at the Port Maitland weather buoy showed 77KPH winds earlier this AM. At 1 AM I'm out there like an idiot chasing patio furniture and got soaked after 2 minutes. Never did get back to sleep wondering which tree was going to come through the roof of this shack. Welcome Fall Windster Olympics. Be careful my friend.

Well you just have to excuse me Canoe. I have to realize there must be some very sensitive folks here. It's called an opinion based on simple logic and no I wasn't venting, and with whom have I vented to previously? 1st post here and the guy wants to know if snagging Salmon is legal, in the mouth or no mouth he isn't angling for fish as intended as stated in the Regs from what I recall. One need not be a C.O. or a Bay St. lawyer to know a person is snagging fish if he did that. That is my opinion although some may not agree I'm sticking to it.

Hang in there our friend. And please no apologies from you. It's good to surround yourself with close friends and Family. Reminisce about the good times you both shared over the years. It helps Cliff.

2019-2020 Hockey Thread
Old Ironmaker replied to DRIFTER_016's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
I listen to WGR 550 from Buffalo when I am in the truck. Of course they are homeys for the Sabres and some talking heads there are already packing in the season. Being raised in Western NY until it was time to go to Kindergarten and lived in North Tonawanda with my Noni for my Senior year of High School. I am a Buffalo homey. Does anyone have an opinion as to what the 2017 Sabres look like? I'll hang up and listen, thanks. -
Is Fisherman's Wharf where the launch is below the lift bridge? Planning on putting in at the bridge this week.

Unbelievable. I didn't know crackheads like boating. What also is unbelievable the boat was found. This social media thing does have it's good points. You did a good thing Tom. Kudos to you.

That's called snagging bigboy. Tail, body or mouth it technically is snagging. I would doubt you could do it anyway. One would have to be good with a rod and line to "snag" a fish in the mouth. Besides that I think it isn't very sporting and not in the spirit of sportsmanship. If you miss the mouth and caught the fish in the body what would you call that? If I saw you do what you propose I would turn you in buddy. I think you have come to the wrong forum, want to start over again? This is a joke right, who posted this?

Yes Tom I'm with you. Many homes now do need a whole house ventilation system due to it's air tightness. They have come a long way since first introduced in the trade. Blowing cold air in a warm home isn't good. I worked with an engineer years back to preheat the incoming ventilating air with the waste gases from a furnace, gas fireplace and or gas hot water heater. The incoming duct had an exterior sleeve where warm waste gas heated the incoming line. Same principle as combustion air being preheated going to Blast Furnace stoves. The problem, ensuring the incoming line could not be breached or you will kill everyone in the house with CO, not good. Too many intangibles for me to continue in the project. There was a time when those R-2000 houses came out a fire in a fireplace wouldn't stay lit or a candle on a table. The advantage I see beyond the R value in closed cell is that it makes the envelope air tight. One can have R-36 in a wall and a few light switches, receptacles or windows etc. that are not properly sealed and tapped vapour barrier can be like leaving a window or even the front door open in January. The other thing I constantly shake my head at is improper roof venting. Reverse ventilation can take place if too much or too little can rot a roof in no time. There is a McMansion out my way that is 5 years old, they are replacing the roof including the sheathing because some roofer thought the more vents the better. The underside of the roof is laden with mold and has rotted, 5 years new!!
