If you can get 7 years on a car, truck or marine battery today it doesn't owe you anything. 110,000 is what my new Chevy Silverado factory installed battery lasted.

2019-2020 Hockey Thread
Old Ironmaker replied to DRIFTER_016's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
I'll tell you how much I am in the loop of the NHL today. When did Los Vegas get a freeking NHL franchise? Vegas? I should relinquish my Canadian citizenship. I am embarrassed to tell the truth. Vegas and not Hamilton, Quebec City, London, Halifax or even Regina? I bet Saskatchewan has 25,000 hockey fans to fill an arena. Heck they fill a stadium with rabid CFL fans in sub zero weather in November, NHL games are in a nice and toasty indoor arena for Pete's sake. Those fans in Regina would watch if games were played outside. Who is going to a Vegas game, Reginians on a 3 day junket? -
You have a Man to Man with him while cleaning your 30 aught 6. Actually happened to my kid brother when he got engaged to one of his wives, don't remember which number she was. He's going on #4 right now with #5 a distinct possibility and he isn't yet 50. One of the strangest things I have ever seen was when our Uncle passed and there he is with numbers 1 through 3 all hugging next to the coffin while number 4 sits in the corner staring at them. Family reunion I guess.

All good advise. I looked at our package closely and both Shaw and Bell are almost the same to the dollar. No collusion there eh? My must see TV is the Freak Channel, A&E. My 600 Pound Life, My 7' Tall Life, My Bigamist Life, My Little Person Life, 90 Day Fiancé (How to get a dial a wife/husband), man there was a day you had to go to the County Fair to see the Freak show, now it's on primetime TV which I think is sad. We don't watch because like I said it is sad to see these producers use peoples disabilities to sell Toyotas and condoms. I admit my guilty pleasure is 90 Day Fiancé, (please don't tell my wife). She knows and just shakes her head, anyway....... The only way I see to get what we want, not need, is to wait until one or the other have a deal for switching over or having the current carrier to match the introductory offer. Another way is to get friends and relatives to go on one bill. I don't know how that works, I know they must know where the dishes are and most homes don't have 6 receivers, or do they? We have 2 for only the 2 of us, so maybe. We have friends that share the cost 5 ways or more in several remote locations, how does that work? They must know they aren't in the same house.

Rick, no he and she may not be. I dated a few young ladies when I was a child (16 to 18) for a long time, more than one at a time too, and we never ever had intimate relations, ever. Especially those of which came from good families that I respected. It might have been the Roman Catholic boy in me. Knowing what I know a to how you and Jen parent and the respect your kids have for the two of you I really doubt it. Just bustin' orbs. I wouldn't sweat it, sounds like a good kid. Teach him to cook. You never know, my younger brother started dating his wife when they were 13 freekin' years old. He and she are 60 now and have been together for the last 47 years!!!!

Yep too tired at 17 to do anything else. In Randy Moss's voice, "COME ON MAN." I never had a daughter but enough nieces and God Daughters to lose sleep, I don't envy your journey Brudder. I am such a sceptic I want to know how a 17 year old can come up with a down stroke and make payments on a 35K rig and bling it out let alone insurance which has to be 500 a month for a 17 year old. This guy needs some Hamilton style interrogation, he may fold under questioning.

May I ask what is an "interference chain?"

That all depends if you are a fan of Aldean and don't know who Tom Petty is because you were born in 1999. Tom Petty is Mom and Dad's music to millennials Sinker. I didn't enjoy listening to Glen Miller, Doris Day and Louis Prima but Mom played their records all day long. Alllllllllllllll dayyyyyyyyyyyy long! Thank the Lord for the British invasion or I would have lost it when I was 9.

I don't keep my eye on utilities at home. My wife does the utilities, I always check Hydro and Gas but not TV. I should be in the loop but am not, my head is in the sand so to speak. We have 1 Bell HD and 1 Bell SD box, both our boxes. All the movies except for Super Channel, we have HBO, TSN, all the upper HD channels. Time shifting as well. Today I got involved because the Sat. dish needs to be adjusted. Of course they said that a $75.00 service charge would apply and I told them to transfer me to customer service to cancel the thing after 17 years. 2 minutes latter they wave the charge, no shoot Sherlock. Any way I find we are paying close to $150.00 month and I find out movies are $6.99 each and average 4 month, man that's another 30 bucks plus tax. So lets say $120.00/ month all in. It was $55.00/month when I ordered it in 2000. I did look at going to Shaw when it was available 5 years ago and it was the same as Bell once all the promos expiered, about $95.00/month. It is the only other service I can get I'm told because of location. We don't have enough bandwidth to go internet only and because of NFL games I wouldn't. Watched a game last year at my Brothers through the Internet and wanted to throw a foam brick through the screen with all the pixilation and tech difficulties. What are you paying a month for Sat. TV, for what channels and with whom if I may ask? Thanks ahead of time, The guy stuck in the 90's and still has a VHS recorder and uses it.

If you never want to take anything apart use 3M 5200, the best adhesive on the market. Ohio Fisherman makes a great point, using a solid hardwood rather than a plywood for a transom may likely crack because of the great amount of stress on it. I would think it also depends on how large a piece needed. As far as wood finally rotting it all will eventually, if done right it will outlive you.

Yep Brian I don't like paradigm shifts until I am convinced 110% , and that ain't 20 cents. Why take a chance because you read it on the internet.
-
I'm not concerned about a battery cracking because of freezing. A battery price is based on it's quality and only has so many times it can go from a full charge to below 20% until it can't be charged again. Some can be only 10 discharges and some 20. I was told that by an automotive pro here and confirmed by others. Thus the difference in prices from a $89.99 CTC economy brand to a $150.00 premium unit from a big name brand.

When I left my boat out in the elements I took them in and charged them once or twice over the winter. The last 2 winters I stored the boat indoors, no heat and just disconnected them. Someone told me to disconnect both neg. and pos. I charge them up once in March and haven't had a problem, knock on my wooden noggin. I was told to never store batteries on concrete. Someone on iboats.com said just last week this is a wives tale. Battery casements now are not made of the same material they once were, rubber, and nothing will happen. For the time it takes to put a piece of plywood under them I still wont put them on concrete. 3 new batteries can run about $450.00 or more.

Of course it is Dave, you have all the bases covered.

Very nice Dave. I know why the pic didn't turn out well. A tip when you decide to tile the shower. I forgot to put wall niches in, they are great in a shower. Takes a bit of time but well worth it. Much neater and cleaner looking than hanging racks to hold stuff.

We complain when violent criminals are offered sweet deals to lighten the Courts case loads and we complain when not all fishing and hunting offences are not perused by the Crown. I would bet my bottom dollar that if someone is ticketed for a minor violation and that person chooses to go to Court that ticket will disappear really fast because the Crown won't waste valuable Court time for foul hooking a fish. I bet that more than a few assistant or even CA's don't know what foul hooked even means.

I'm with you Sir. When I have to cook my shrimp under a table that is 12" high with my Zippo I'm going to McDonalds. There is a huge difference between Sushi and Samishi.

Those Bush Pilots don't need no stinking laws either, not all but some are real Cowboys. I don't think the owner of the plane would be too impressed either. -
As above. But I like the look of wood so I would use a few coats of Marine grade Spar Varnish on the Cherry. The more Spar applied the darker it will get. A light sanding and a good cleaning with a Tack cloth and repeat. I can't see why Cherry wood would not work as long as it is thick enough, and varnishing it would look amazing. If it is plywood with a veneer that won't work for me, then I would go with Marine grade plywood, you might not need a full sheet either if they will cut. If solid Cherry I don't know the weight compared to Marine Grade ply. The lighter the better for a 14'er. We have used Marine plywood and put a nice veneer on each side for an older tinny.

That is if the timing chain wasn't on any of Mercedes gas engines of the early 80's. I had a chain go on my 5.6 liter V8 and it required an engine rebuild to the tune of $3500.00, in 88', ouch. Not 20,000 KM later the exact same thing happened so I took it to a Benz dealer and they did the rebuild and put in what they called a "double" timing chain. Is there such a thing? No cost to me. As for the first rebuild they said I should have gone to them first. Another expensive life lesson.

We ate some of the stuff in Japan. One of the Millwrights that was in my crew asked me "What we were eating Johnny D." I told him bait.

We can do that for you Adam. There is a gang of retirees here that work on boats in a pals large building. We have access to marine carpeting and have torn the floors out and painted on vinyl flooring rather then re carpet. PM me if you wish and I'll give you my phone number and email. We are just west of Dunnville ON. About 45 minutes from Hamilton.

Wind-driven Wildfires in the North Bay
Old Ironmaker replied to mbenson898's topic in General Discussion
Exactly. My Uncle from Western NY and I drove down to St. Louis to see his brother, my uncle, and rather than cross at Buffalo I chose to make the return at Detroit and take the much better and faster 401. Passport requirements had just came into play and he didn't have one. He lost it on the Customs Officer. She calmly told him it wasn't our Queen that made the Passport requirement it was his President Bush 2. Then let us through. Another M2B2 and JD hi-jacking, sorry.
