Good morning to you ch312! It's a glorious day and it's Friday! I hope you had a comfortable night's sleep.

Just throwing this out there for answers or opinions. Why do some reels have what seems to me as such large line capacities? I know that you can use cheaper backings etc... but why would you ever need almost 1,000' of line on a reel? You'd think that freshwater reels would never need more than 300'- 400' maximum. I'm interested in what your opinions are. Thanks.

I have a few of Spiel's creations. I don't have any of those luxury reel seats. Main reason being that I use Downeasters. Got some pretty fancy thread work though. Every one of his rods are go to rods for me though.

Instead of paying the big price for the polymer mount, get yourself a kitchen cutting board and cut out the size and shape you need. It's the same stuff. cheaper and with some luck you can probably find it in a colour that matches your boat.
