I have a 1985 16'4" - 84" beam Grumman with a Johnson VRO 50hp outboard. When I purchased this rig brand new I upgraded to 2 trailer sizes larger then what would have come with the boat....A Tee Nee Bunk Trailer Here's my trailer and you can see that's as far as I put her in the water for launching and retrieving... Note the extremely high water conditions we had this spring in WNY..

A #2 chartreuse Colorado blade spinner with 3 orange beads and a JUICE healthy nightcrawler controlled drifted or trolled with a slip sinker but the worm harness has a 24'-30" leader.... Bob

My boat transom comes even with the rear roller and bunks..... My boat weight is mostly on the rollers (hard yellow type) and both my rollers and bunks have been adjusted to the lowest setting I can get away with......this way my bearings/hubs NEVER touch the water and I don't have to repack them for YEARS.......like 15 years.... ...but every boat and trailer is different......BTW launching is a BREEZE using this method....

Here in the USA I learned to line myself up with congressional members (30 years ago)....."THEY" never cut their own throats.... -
Trolling plates are trouble....the one that lock down can cause problems if you forget to raise it....the spring loaded ones that raise by themselves while going fast are in the way while trying to use reverse... Muskie Mike had it right......a wind sock or 5 gallon bucket...if you use a bucket drill holes in the bucket and attach a rope as the handle will rip off....Wind sock is best IMHO.. Good Luck with your choice, Bob

Back in 1979 I built a cottage about 1 mile from Long Point State Park on 2.5 acres of land....had great deer hunting right on my own property.. The walleye fishing was VERY good and the crappie fishing was FANTASTIC...never used bait for the crappies....just my hand tied bucktail jigs....this year I caught 2 crappie in 4 trips there... Now the Chautauqua Lake Cottage Assc, which are mostly rich residents from Ohio cut the weeds via permission from our DEC...gee where do you think the young of the year crappie hide.... .....I can't remember the last year I caught a walleye on that lake....and the fall walleye run in November use to be FANTASTIC..

Blaque, I talked to the DEC this year just prior to the NYS opener (was trying to find out if they closed the lake because of flooding) and was told the walleye population in Oneida is around 498,000 compared to 1 million in the 80's and early 90's....half as many fish in the pond means you catch about half as many each outing. On Chautauqua...the DEC has made MANY MANY mistakes mismanaging this lake from walleyes to crappies....they never wanted walleyes in Chautauqua Lake and were removing the breeders (I personally witnessed this) years ago to hopefully increase the muskie population...the gross mismanagement of allowing Diaquot and then Aquathol K to be sprayed into the lake to kill weeds still gets my blood pressure up...

Good Luck on your choice, Bob

Over the many years of fishing I have seen several lakes evolve because of the zebra mussel... ....walleye fishing on Lake Erie has become a different animal because of the super clear water column, but the fish are still there in great numbers. Walleye fishing on Oneida Lake in central NYS is no where as good as it once was because of the zebra mussel...same can be said for Chautauqua Lake.... But one thing we must keep in mind.....some of those great fishing outings was maybe when Lake X was peaking.....the only thing you can take to the bank when comparing one year to the next is this "It's never as good as it was and it's never as bad as it was" Good Luck Fishing, Bob

On my satellite system I get a Los Angles feed and yesterday I was watching a sports news report from LA....they said LA has now got the go ahead to proceed forward towards building a new football stadium to attract a existing franchise....the NFL has guaranteed them a team.....the teams in question were...Raiders, Vikings, Jaguars, Chargers and the Rams....I guess nobody wants the Bills except Ralph Wilson...LOL.... So GO RALPH and leave Da Bills..

I run an annual tailgate party at our fire hall with lots of food and of course beer (required to be a VFF)......and this year was the best ever... My fellow firefighters came to eat, drink and make fun at the Buffalo Bills ...however, the snickers turned quickly into "Who are these guys"... By the end of the night it was under dog Buffalo 41 Kansas City 7 My survivor league team Arizona came back and beat Carolina so this year I'm not out the first week like the last 3 years. I also have NE in another survivor league and they play tonight...so here's hoping. Anyone else here play in a Survivor League where you pay a one time fee of about $10-$25 and pick one team a week to win....if that team wins your in it for the next week, however you can never pick that team again for the rest of the year....the last player standing wins it all...sometimes it's a a few $K's for fishing stuff... But any ways.......that's how us Red Blooded Americans spend Sunday afternoons throughout the fall... Bob

Joey, If you took all those FANTASTIC pics you should seriously consider retiring the fishing pole and get a career as a wildlife photographer or at least a freelance photographer for a magazine or local newspaper. Hope to see more of your pics in the near future... Bob

Why do we say Seneca Lake, Silver Lake, Chautauqua Lake, Oneida Lake, etc....but when it comes to the Great Lakes, we say LAKE Erie, LAKE Ontario, LAKE Superior, LAKE Huron and LAKE Michigan. BTW we have some rivers here that you jump across and some creeks you can run your boat up....

Too much fishing.Where do YOU draw the line?

Paul, great post.......fishing is suppose to get you away from all the bull of everyday life...there will always be grass to cut and fences to mend...I have a neighbor across the street that nothing to do except take care of her yard....she cuts the grass several times a week...and I don't mean just cut the grass...she weed wacks, edges, blows off the driveway, the side walk and part of the street....anything that makes a lot of noise she has....we get almost no peace and quite all summer long, not to mention the fumes from all those power tools...boy do I wish she would take up painting....like painting my garage...LOL... While I was working on the RR I would do all my domestic chores during the week so I had the whole weekend off to fish....planned my vacations around fishing/hunting.....took days off in the spring in the middle of the week to fish crappies on a nice sunny day...I was fishing over 100 days a year...not to mention hunting.. When I was younger I had that fishing drive and my understanding wife let me go ALL the time and whenever and for as long as I wanted all while taking care of 2 boys and a dog....I got bit by the walleye tournament bug and fished several every year...now if there's a tournament I avoid those waters like the plague. But I learned a LOT and wouldn't trade those years for anything. Yesterday I went walleye fishing on Lake Erie with a old high school buddy....we didn't catch squat and it was one of the most enjoyably outing I had this year. Where was I going with this.... ...oh,yea......if you're having fun and the bride also enjoys it, go while you still feel healthy enough to do it....I now go a week or two without wanting to fish because of my RA...I'm even thinking of giving my son Billy the boat and mentioned that to Cindy...she said....hold on....you're not done yet.....I hope she's right... So FISH FISH FISH if you and your wife enjoin it that much.....and do the other crap on windy/rainy days....summers are short in the north...always remember that if nothing else. Good Luck Fishing, Bob -
